There have been many occasions with my patronage since the opening of this restaurant where my friends and I have thoroughly enjoyed dining at Medium Rare. However, in recent years a decline in service, atmosphere, and consequently the food has become more and more evident with each visit. Last night, I was throughly disappointed. The evening started with my request to turn-down the volume of the music only a bit. Shortly thereafter, someone turned the music back up and throughout the dinner I could not hear what my companion was saying aross the tiny two-person table. We regretted sitting inside and felt we should've opted for a more pleasant experience outside in the humidity and the auto traffic. It's inexplicable to me why this interior ambience with loud music is management's preference. I've always sensed an urgency at MR to get one served and out the door to seat additional guests, but it was bad last night. We are not slow eaters, and the salad is not of the size to require extra time, but no sooner had we been halfway into our salads that out portobello mushrooms arrived and were squeezed onto the table before us which can barely accommodate for dinner-size plates. So, now I'm eating my salad and my entree because I know these mushrooms get cold quickly. And they did. Though not before the second helping was piled upon the first serving further ensuring a fully cold dinner. Additionally, I've always loved the fries though last night they were so overcooked that they were just crispy and hollow potato husks with all the interior potato fried-out. We came a little early to beat the dinner rush, but this pressure to get us fed with cold entrees and out the door while shouting to be heard has me wondering why I would ever eat at Medium Rare again. Such a disappointment for what had been a neighborhood favorite.

What’s happened to the fries?? They’re now quite dry and anemic whereas they used to be golden brown and delicious. The reason we come here all the time is for the consistent delivery of the same food and we like it all just the way it is. Even the presentation has changed. My friends left saying we’ll need to try somewhere else but I like our tradition so hoping that was just a blip.

The food was pretty good enjoyed the french toast for brunch I would have picked somewhere else now that I've been there. Never could get refills on anything when you were supposed to and we were lucky to have one drink at all water, tea anything. Had to flag down someone just to get our bill.

If you’re doing to do one thing, do it well. This place has gone way downhill since it opened. The steak was cold and chewy. The fries tasted stale. The music inside was so loud we moved outside. Then had the pleasure of metro fumes and insane wind gusts blasting our table every 5 minutes as we were seated above the metro grate. Service was slow and inattentive. Used to be a great spot for a fun, reasonably priced steak frites meal. Now it’s a kitchen nightmare. Will not go back. Ever.

I was so excited to go have a girls brunch here. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. The mimosas barely had any champagne in them. At no point did I feel like I had alcohol. Next, the food portion was very small. For it to be an entree, it was a serving for an appetizer. Of course for the meat I tried my steak as medium rare, it lacked flavor. I also had a poached egg and it was cooked like a boiled egg smh. The service was good, but the food sucked. The environment was ok, nothing special.

I had eaten at the Medium Rare Arlington location a couple of years ago when visiting the area. I wanted my carnivorous husband and son get to enjoy the experience. For this trip, we had dinner at the Cleveland location. The two locations have a very different ambience, but both have consistency with service and food. The Medium Rare in Cleveland is conveniently located right off the Metro station. Parking in the area is a bit of a challenge. There is a parking lot across from the restaurant that starts at $20. The service at Medium Rare is efficient, friendly and engaging. Upon arrival, our waiters brought us water. After that, everything flowed smoothly. The fixed menu includes artisanal bread, salad, fries, and steak. The food is flavorful and essentially all you can eat. My husband and son were able to eat 2 plates full! This cost is pricey, but it's definitely an experience worth trying at least once.
