Medium rare was fabulous. Our friend is s chef and was incredibly impressed.
Always a favorite! Quick service, GREAT food, perfect place to grab dinner!
Great spot with a 1 item menu amd great drinks. Make it a must do on my annual business trip to D.C.
Food and service were great but the NOISE level was really extraordinary. Some work on buffering sound with wall covering would really help this place. I would love to come back but we couldn't hear each other without yelling and after a while it got uncomfortable. Cocktails were great and food excellent.
I have been coming to Medium Rare for years and will keep coming back. Solid service, amazing steak and frites. You know what you are getting when you come to the restaurant and they never disappoint.
Dinner with family, good service, consistently good food.
I didn't like it. I like the simple menu idea but the food was average at best. The restaurant feels cramped.
I brought my family here for graduation dinner! Everyone loved it! No complaints! My favorite restaurant in dc!
Sat outside ...outstanding service...they keep bringing food! Highly recommend it😁
The patio is dog-friendly which is a plus. The menus is fixed, but delicious.
The food is good, as are the unlimited mimosas for brunch. The problem is that the portion sizes have gotten smaller over the years. I still recommend this place for a nice brunch before a trip to the zoo.
Was recommended this place by a friend, so when we came here for a trip decided to give it a try. The flank steak was amazing as well as their sauce. Sat outside on a beautiful spring day and couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
So dissatisfied and disappointing!
The the meat was tasteless and dry even medium rare w pink on inside!
Very very chewy and w lots of fibers...
QALiTy if meet sucked !
French fries were very oily !
Salad was smallllll!
Bread was amazing !!... but I didn’t come to have the delish bread ...
so not coming back unless they get good quality meat !!
C mom.. it’s a steak place !!! Get the good steak to be proud of your establishments...
perhaps they are still riding the wave of pple taking about them .. perhaps it was good once ?
I was recommended about a year ago .. so tday is not the same place it was ??
No decisions except how you want your steak cooked! Great service! No pressure to get out. Tasty meal. Only challenge was the noise level was quite high.
Very simple menu. What they do they do really well. The second helping of steak frites just makes you feel like you haven’t been home for a while and mom and dad want to splurge on you a little bit!! Not a bread guy at all but this bread was fantastic. Will add this to my short list of DC restaurants that I must go to when I am in town.
A very enjoyable evening. Excellent food and drink. Excellent service.
Everything but the service was wonderful. Server kept coming back to the table to get the completed check even though people were still eating.
Always have to bring my son here when we visit. Great food and seconds!
Excellent, great tasting food! Great playlist and friendly employees.
Medium rare is a solid brunch spot if you want something easy and affordable. Food is ok but not great. Their eggs are always way to runny and the steak is mediocre. You can tell they just want to turn and burn and don’t really care about quality. Service is never great and you usually have to wait a good 10 minutes after your reservation to sit down.
My friends and I went for brunch. My food was fine, steak and fries which is hard to mess up, but both of the friends I was with looked like they had been served dog food. Given that there are only four menu options, and that 3/4 were average or far below average only offered all at a fixed rate, it did not seem to be a good value at all. Additionally, they offered bottomless mimosas, but after only eating an hour, and having a prior reservation, we were asked to leave to make room for new guests in a very brusque manner. It would be one thing if we had been loud or there for over three hours, but to have been quietly catching up with friends for such a short time, and then asked to leave at noon says to me that they don't understand service.
I had brunch outside on a beautiful day. (The people watching on Connecticut Ave is top notch.) Our server, Tina, was the best! She kept it casual and interjected so much fun on our time there. She really went out of her way to make sure our bottomless drinks were, in fact, bottomless. We never had to wait for a refill, which can often happen at bottomless brunches. Danny the manager also checked in on us and was very friendly. Overall a great, low key spot for friends to meet up! Highly recommend. I will be back soon!
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants...I was a little disappointed the last time we were there. Service was lousy and my second steak portion came out cold.
A simple establishment that is certainly worth a discussion before you make a reservation. You can't be much more vegan-unfriendly - really your only choice is whether to have your meat medium rare or medium well. They have a couple of desserts, and a very limited range of wine, beer and simple cocktails. But, I have been here 5 or 6 times, so they do something right. Well, everything right. Enough meat correctly cooked that I had a nice sandwich with leftovers the next day for lunch, an excellent carrot cake for dessert, good service at all times. This isn't a place I'd expect to get a Michelin star, or a place I can take someone who doesn't eat red meat, but it is a place to regularly return to when you want a nice evening out with a good meal.
The food was delicious and I like the cozy atmosphere, but just a couple notes: One, perhaps some more spirits at the bar? Two, at some point the music was turned up to uncomfortably loud volume. Three, my date has a nut allergy but, despite the request, several were in her desert. The waitress was great about it and very apologetic, but it still seems like it could have been easily avoided. Beyond that, though, it was still a fun evening at a fun place with good food.
I live two blocks from Medium Rare and go there frequently. The service was really, really bad tonight, we didn’t get anything (drink refills, bread) unless we asked for it. And when we did ask for it, the waitress had an attitude. The delicious chocolate sundae that normally comes with vanilla ice cream came with cherry ice cream but no one told us about it. When I brought it to our waitress’ attention she said, yeah, it’s a special thing we’re doing for cherry blossoms and normally I tell people but didn’t tell you because we’re out of vanilla. ?!?! So I paid $8 for a sundae that is not on the menu and different from the one I’ve had 10 times because she was just too lazy to tell me and likely didn’t want to lower her potential tip? Experiences like this make people stop frequenting restaurants. I’ve already told two friends about it because it was so bad. This is how you put a bad taste in people’s mouth and make them stop thinking about going to your restaurant.
Fantastic, delicious as usual.
We stopped for a Dinner after going to a Zoo. I didn't have any idea that the menu is Prefix and so simple. This was a pleasant surprise and we loved it. It is actually good food . This is not typical steak restaurant, but you get a lot of food and great experience.
Everything comes out fresh and you can see how they are cooking. cool... It's a very busy place and reasonably price for the food and drink. The service was excellent.
Hard to go wrong here - just choose the way you like your steak cooked and that's it! I've been here several times and they always nail the medium rare I request. The sauce is addictive and they'll bring you a cute little pot of it if you ask.
Great place for a good meal
I've lost count of how many times I've been to Medium Rare.My food was great (steak perfectly tender this time), service was lacking. The restaurant was not that busy when we arrived but it took a while for us to get service, especially refills on drinks. Beyond that, a great meal as always.
I like to visit medium rare for a nice dinner out. Food is always good, no complaints about the service, cold brew and a reasonable cost. I will be back.
Excellent food—if you like beef and French Fries (and if you don't, why are you here?). But very noisy, even in the section away from the bar. Attentive but not overbearing service.
One of our neighborhood favorites. Decent food, friendly staff. Would certainly recommend.
However, it is very loud. Our last dinner was not the best because of the noise. Low ceilings and loud talkers, combined with the unfortunate choice of Rock music with rapid beats makes it quite challenging to keep a conversation or properly enjoy the meal. If nothing else, they can play gentler music in lower volume. The members my party were relieved to get out of the restaurant at the end of the meal and found it much easier to have a conversation on the sidewalk on Connecticut Avenue than inside.
We made a reservation but had to wait over 30 minutes to be seated. The hostesses were sweet and we received drinks at the bar while we waited.
Both my friend and I ordered the Eggs Benedict and unfortunately, both plates were either lukewarm or cold in temperature. We didn't send our plates back, we decided to let it go.
I had left a note that we are celebrating my friend's birthday, and our table was given a large ice cream sundae. My friend is lactose-intolerant. I wish someone had checked in with me first if that was okay.
Then we received our bill, which included the $11 ice cream Sundae that WE DID NOT REQUEST OR CONSENT TO RECEIVE.
We let all of this go because overall the food was good (even the vegetarian burger), the service was great, and our experience was positive. However, I think that Medium Rare should not charge the table if it's going to bring a birthday special of any sort, at least not without asking first.
Called to let the hostess know I would be a tad late to the reservation ...they said okay no problem....show up and they gave my table away and I had to wait 45 min to be seated. Service is the worst I’ve ever experienced. Food is beyond mediocre.
Had a wonderful birthday celebration brunch here. The staff is always so friendly and they don’t hold back the tasty mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. We even got a special birthday treat! Thank you so much Medium Rare!!
Not a place to go with an older person. The noise level is very high and the music very loud. The food wasn't that great either. While the price is right, you get what you pay for. The steak was chewy and tough, but fries were great. Service is a bit slap dash as well. Probably won't go again.
Good meal, appreciated the red pepper sauce for the steak and the ability of the restaurant to accommodate the Whole30 for me.
