Medium Rare - Capitol Hill Ratings and Reviews
We went to Medium Rare for brunch. We both ordered steak and egg, but with different eggs. He ordered scrambled and I ordered poached. The poached egg was a little bit too runny to the point that I couldn't quite enjoy the egg, it looked like a sauce to the steak. Steak's amazing as per usual. The service was great, we never saw the bottom of our drink until the very end before we left. Would definitely go again.
I was with a party of five for brunch. The drinks were good for the most part, but the two people who had mimosas agreed they were mostly orange juice. The appetizers were fantastic but the entrees were extremely disappointing. The poached eggs were runny to the point that we were unable to eat them with a fork. The meat was extremely undercooked; I ordered medium and it was blue. We did all agree that the French toast was fantastic. The waiter made several mistakes with the orders and took an extremely long time to refill drinks, get the check, etc.
Let me say that I have always come to MR for dinner and the food and experience is phenomenal. However I was disappointed this past weekend when we decided to slip in at 2:30 to eat on a Sunday on our way back from NYC with our visiting family/guests.
We were a party of 4, of which 3 members do not drink. Nobody offered to explain to us that the brunch menu was a bit different than dinner. The server did not mention the menu differences and rushed us to get our orders in (which we were happy to comply since we were hungry and tired!).
Don’t get me wrong, our waitress was sweet- but we just wished she would have clarified or made a suggestion upon learning that the majority of our party did not order the bottomless alcohol. She did not do anything wrong, but unfortunately, we did not find this to be of value considering that we paid $5 more than dinner pricing, but for half of the food. We noticed that a few parties that ordered right after us received dinner service. We left a bit disappointed and still hungry, especially since I had hyped up the restaurant to our guests.
Lesson learned- don’t come for the brunch unless you are coming to drink!!!!
Brunch is typically a busy time, especially when a bottomless brunch is offered, but the service was pretty sub par. Perhaps more staff for a busy brunch time would help, but we were served poached eggs with very runny whites, dirty glasses, and coffee mugs that looked like more coffee made it outside than inside the mug. The waitstaff was not very tentative, although this may be due to short staffing or other factors.
Overall 4/5 stars
My main issues were the music was so loud it prevented conversation, and we had to ask multiple times for standard condiments for their meal: ketchup and vinegar for fries. These should just be on the table.
Easy prix fixe menu made dinner for a large group hassle free.
Would definitely return.
Neat idea of only one menu item... meat with gravy and salad. Not well executed. Food was fine- just uninspired and a rushed assembly line feel. Had to ask for bread and silverware and staff seemed troubled to bring them. So many better options pn the steeet at same price point. Would not go back.
A great place to eat. Only one thing on the menu in the evening so you better like steak!
I went with my wife who loves a good steak and she was very happy. The set evening meal is bread, salad and then two rounds of steak and fries. I had a glass of the Malbec wine which for me is perfect for eating steak, nice and full bodied, and this one was ery nice.
All the food was excellent especially the bread and the steak. The salad was a little basic for me, just lettuce and a couple of baby tomatoes with a vinegrette but overall the meal was good value.
We nornally share a dessert after the meal but we were too full after the second serving of steak so cant comment on that. The service was good and attentive and and we were made to feel welcome. I will be going back, we have to try the desserts still!
Everyone in the group is a fan of medium rare but the hostess wouldn't seat my party of 7 until the 8th person arrived. I understand why most places do this but our friend was coming from out of town and let us know she would be extremely late. We went for brunch and our reservation was 30 minutes before brunch service stopped so this was a little frustrating. Once we sat we didn't have a designated server, random employees kept coming to our table to help us but that created confusion so we would go periods of time without drink refills. Also, you designated 2 hours to enjoy brunch. After 45 minutes we were given our check and servers kept coming by to see if we had paid.. we hadn't even finished our meals, it felt like they were trying to rush us out. Overall it was still a good experience because the food/drinks were great as was the company but the service could have been better.
Our work group likes Medium Rare for the price and set menu. The French romance audio track in the bathroom cracks me up every time. My only complaint is music is always too loud in the main dining area. (Yes, I may be getting too old!) We asked and the manager turned it down some. Very nice staff.
