Mediterraneo Ratings and Reviews
Seated promptly. Food was very good. The wait service was very slow. Waiter left menus and did not come back. After about 20 minutes we had to go find him.
Again, when it was time for the check, our waiter was nowhere to be found. We had an early brunch reservation (11:30) and the restaurant was NOT busy. Waiter never came to out table unless we sought him out.
While I had been to the wine bar next door many times, this was my first visit to Mediterraneo and I was sorry I waited so long. The restaurant was very lively, filled with voices and live music. It is an attractive place, though a bit loud for conversation. There were 4 of us and we each ordered a different pasta dish. I had the linguini with clams which was served with a light broth type (rather than cream) sauce. It was delicious and loaded with fresh clams. That was one of the star dishes. The other was a seafood pasta that was served in a copper sauce pan. The presentation was lovely and the food was very tasty. While the place is primarily Italian, I had a tuna tartare appetizer and it was very good. Highly recommend the butter cake for dessert.
Food was wonderful, fresh & pasta homemade. Service was awful. We felt unwelcome from the time were sat down. Waiter was not accessible, nor did anyone else notice we had empty appetizer and bread plates piled on the table. Second drinks not offered & after dessert menu was given, waiter disappeared returning after talking with management, in a cloud of cigarette smoke. Service team very divided, paying attention to only their tables vs helping each other out as any Italian family would. Disappointed.
I visit Mediterraneo often and was disappointed this time as I clearly put on the Open Table Reservation that it was for a birthday and stated so to the receptionist when I came in. She told me she saw that and would advise our server. However, there was no acknowledgement by the server or dessert brought over. Very disappointed.
I always order the Mediterraneo salad. Wonderfully fresh. The bread is warm and freshly baked. The servers are attentive and helpful. I like the deck on the east side of the restaurant for the view of the lagoon. My favorite place for lunch or for a pre-theatre evening. However, not on a weekend evening. Parking is horrendous!
This is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. The food is fine, but if they are going to charge $40 for a piece of fish there should not be a tv blaring at the bar. There are other restaurants in the area that have no TVs and we will go to those in the future. Silence is golden!
The food at Mediterraneo is quite good - I've enjoyed everything I've ordered there. We love to dine outdoors, but both times we were seated by noisy tables of six. My friend and I had a very hard time hearing each other. If we go again, we'll make a point of requesting a quiet table!
The food is good, but the service is a little lackluster and the presentation of my steak was laughable. I know that given it’s proximity to the lake and fancy hotel, the prices will be high, but for $40, could they not take a little more care with the service and appearance of their dishes?
Went to Mediterraneo in Westlake Village this past Saturday with another couple and requested outdoor seating which was very romantic with a view of their little lake. The restaurant is upscale but not stuffy and you don't need to overdress to come here. The appetizer I ordered was the Creamy Polenta with truffles and mushrooms. It was very light and the polenta was perfect. My entrée was the Vitello Marsala (Veal Marsala) which were covered in mushrooms and a tangy lemon sauce. The veal was tender and tasty. The Grand Manier Creme Brulee was the perfect topper. Other recommendations are the Beet Salad and Tuna Tartar as appetizers and Tortelli Mascarpone pasta as the main course, followed by the tasty Butterscotch Puding. We brought our own wine and they charge a $20.00 corkage fee. Our waiter was very attentive--she was a fun upbeat personality and helped make it a special evening. Valet parking and beautiful setting (there was a wedding wrapping up at the Inn next door while we were there) and the food was worth every penny!
I would have rated it higher but the service was not good. We waited a long time, ordered coffee and it never came. This is unusual for this restaurant. I went to Happy Hour the same night and the service was fabulous. I hope this was just a fluke.
Everything was excellent except for the singer. Not very good and WAY TOO LOUD to enjoy a conversation. Would have been perfect if we had been outside. Would not dine inside again unless I knew in advance there was not a performer.....moderate acoustic music would be alright.
It was so loud inside that there was no way you could have a dinner conversation. We tried outside patio but a table eight adults were screaming and laughing so loud as they got drunk that all the tables around them were staring at them to behave. One couple left before furnishing their meal. We vowed never to return for dinner.
We met friends for lunch on a Sunday not realizing it would be a brunch menu. I wish there would have been more lunch options but everyone seemed to still enjoy the meal. I got the lentil soup and the waiter didn't tell me it was a purée so I was very disappointed. I would go back for lunch next time because I like the lunch menu better
I've been to Mediterraneo 3 to 4 times and each time has been amazing. The service is exceptional and the food is fresh and prepared to perfection and presented in an esthetic way. We live out of the area but visit Westlake often. I'll be back towards the end of the month for another celebration and will definitely return!!!
I have dined at this restaurant numerous times - from the days that the food and service were not good (several years ago), through the improvements when both food and service were significantly improved (during the past couple of years), through recent dining experience with quite a disappointment. We dined there during prime time on Friday night - 7:30 reservation. The food was still great, which makes up for some of the terrible service we received that night. They were not understaffed, however, the service was quite mismanaged. We waited 45 minutes before a waiter came to take our order! That was quite unacceptable and negatively impacted our night out experience for a nice dinner. I was quite surprised, as this is not acceptable for a restaurant like that.
Another important note is regarding value. The prices have gradually been raised to an unacceptable level. You pay over $40 for a small entre, with a $19 tag on a fried calamari appetizer, and $15 for a very small salad. Dinner for 3 people was $300, which is quite overpriced for this restaurant. They need to significantly improve their service for the experience to be worth the money.
