Medici in Normal Ratings and Reviews
I took my son and his girlfriend to dinner during parents weekend at ISU. I knew the restaurant would be busy, so I booked a reservation. We were seated on time and proceeded to wait for some time for our waiter. Our server arrived and took our drink order. Our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the salmon which was quite good. My son ordered a cheese pizza which looked as though it was of the frozen variety. Bland, and a bit limp. My son's girlfriend had the spaghetti squash entree and was very pleased.
This brings me to our fiasco in paying for our meal. The check arrived and I placed my debit card in the folder with the bill. Our server took the bill and returned some time later informing me that he was sorry, but he couldn't find my debit card. Somehow it had been "misplaced". The manager came over shortly afterward. She explained that my card could have been given back to the adjoining table by mistake. They would try to track the people through their reservation. When that failed to work, the manager came back and told me not to worry, she loses her debit card all the time and all I needed to do was cancel the card and the bank would issue a new card. What??? I didn't lose my card, I handed it to the server. She then said our meal had been taken care of so we didn't need to wait around. Now I'm being asked to leave??
I chose to file a police report to protect me from any losses and cancelled my card. Now I have to put together a list of all the accounts associated with auto-pay and change them. I never heard another word from the restaurant, nor did they offer any type of compensation other than voiding our meal ticket. Needless to say, I will not be back.
This menu had so many entrees , that it was truly hard to choose just one ! As a couple we found at least 5 or 6 entrees that we wanted to order ! While we were deciding on the entrees we were served delicious sliced specialty breads ! This food takes a modern twist , pairing unique flavor profiles to favorite American and Italian classics !!
A great place for date night or when you want to experience 5 Star food at moderate prices .
We love this place for food, decor & service. It’s conveniently located in Uptown Normal so is a perfect place to refresh after a day of shopping, a movie at the Normal Theater or an event at ISU. Or, just for a great meal!!! I’m not one for much spice and they have plenty of tasty, not so spicy food. I love the quesadillas (BBQ pork) & almost any of the pizzas. The Medici wedge salad is luscious. Many of the people I done with DO like spicy food particularly the mahi mahi tacos. Servers are always friendly, efficient & very willing to take a photo to commemorate a nice memory.
I’ve eaten at Medici several times for lunch and loved it. Decided to try dinner and I was pleased again. Dined with my family and we had pizza, beef stroganoff and garlic shrimp with pasta. All were excellent! My husband and I split a wedge salad too. The dressing was really good!
Definitely would go to Medici again!
Menu description of smoked gouda mac and cheese boasted toasted bread crumbs and balsamic reduction. It was not creamy at all nor did it have the bread crumbs or balsamic reduction. It was supposed to be served in a crock and instead came in a bowl. The crab cake was yummy as were the fish tacos. The creme brulee was slightly overbaked and the meringue on the lemon tart was more of a marshmallow topping. Not airy at all, but rather dense.
I was there with family and other than it being incredibly noisy, we had a good experience at Medici's. I had the Medici burger, which was very good, but messy to eat. The waiter was swamped with other tables, but still checked on us frequently. As stated previously it was extremely noisy and it was hard to have a conversation. Good restaurant though.
We had visited Medici's for the first time several months ago. The food and service was good. We were on the second floor.
This visit we were on the first floor. The noise level was so loud I could not hear the person next to me and nor could my guests. It wasn't obnoxious people, it was just a full restaurant with an obvious acoustic problem.
Also, our waiter was excellent, but was apparent he had Way too many diners in his area. I watched him take care of special occasions and dinner clients in excess.
I'm not sure I would consider Medici's for another special occasion.
We sat outdoors for a late dinner on a warm summer evening. The outdoor seating is wonderful. The tables are well spaced and lighting is appropriate. Our meals were excellent. I enjoyed the ragout appetizer and the jambalaya has spiced just right. My son's hamburger was not too special, but he likes it totally plain, so not much can be done with it. Service was fine, but our server brought me the wrong beer, twice. The first time she said the bartender poured it into a glass by mistake, but when my refill came in a can, we figured that I was served the wrong beer. A little surprising since she asked if I wanted a lime when she took my order. Oh well, I'm also to blame since I did not recognize the switch by taste. Good meal in the uptown area of Normal.
Everything we had was hot and delicious. The sweet potato tots were perfect for dipping. The BBQ wings were tender but not greasy and the sauce was great . The spaghetti squash dish was not overcooked and the sauce was light and flavorful. I was sad that the creme brûlée had run out but the lemon tart was worth trying . I recommend Medici and I will certainly be back !
We were traveling to Chicago by car and decided to stop here based upon recommendation. The pulled pork barbecue sandwich was excellent the chicken caprese sandwich was flavorful though the chicken breast was rather dry. Two of us ordered the house sweet potato tater tot's While flavorful we both agreed that the tater tots seemed extremely sweet. On the whole, it was a satisfying meal timely served. We would stop again.
Go here all the time alone when in town on business and sit at bar. Always has great food and service.
Took my wife Friday and was disaster from time we sat down.
Took 30 minutes for drinks to come. We order the quesso dip. They brought a quesada by and we said not ours. Waiter comes by and says we sent appetizer back. We said what we sent back was not what we ordered. He went and got the queso and you could tell he had been sitting around. I order the ribeye and it was not tender and wife's pizza over cooked. My wife order pizza as flat bread and came as pan pizzza. At this point we should have returned both items, but just wanted the experince to be over. They did take the 2 beers and appetizer off.
I will probably go back for the craft beer selection but only for beer and sit at bar. Not sure how our waiter stays employed. One of worst we have ever had.
At the start of the experience we joked and said we should cut our loses, but stayed. What a poor decision that was.
Our server, Maggie, was excellent. She was very friendly and patient with us as we waited for friends to arrive. We had a question about the soup of the day and she provided a sample so we could try it before ordering. It was delicious and two bowls and a cup was ordered. Maggie made sure we had everything we requested in a timely manner.
