Medici in Normal
The menu offers taste of American and European Bistros with fresh homemade breads, seafood, burgers, steaks, stone oven pizzas, and more. Medici also offers a full range of wines, liquors and cocktails, but is really set apart by the devotion to unique beers, with 32 on tap. Featured beers are some of the best American micro-brews.
Medici is the perfect place to host any private event, from corporate meetings to special occasions. The options are endless for any type of event.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Medici. The menu has so many interesting and flavorful selections. The food was outstanding. We especially enjoyed the Korean lettuce wraps, cheddar dip and the sweet potato tater tots. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We will be back!
Mahi tacos and salmon brulee were great as usual!
It was good!
What a great find! We were in Normal for a hockey tournament and went to Medici for a family brunch. Food was excellent (how can a pancake be so good?) and sweet potato tots are a must. Friendly staff, interesting decor. We loved it!
just a little disappointed with Hans Beef Stroganoff, noodles were overcooked and sticky, sauce was too thick. I usually order this dish and this is the first time is was not good. Waitress recommended the pizza special for an appetizer (jalapeno) and it was excellent!
Lots of large parties so loud and slower service than usual. Food was okay but not as good as d as usual. I recommend reservations even for week nights.
The service and food was very good. Unfortunately, we were at the back of the restaurant at a table by the hall. It was very drafty and the wait staff kept bumping into my chair. I feel it's a poor spot for a table of four.
Great food. Excellent service.
Very friendly staff. Due to food allergies I asked if the chef could make the particular dish without one of the ingredients. The server asked the chef and I received a delicious variation of the dish that more than met my expectations.
It would be nice to see
Changes to the menu. Specials are nice but limited.
On the reservation, requested a quiet booth or table, away from any large groups, for business conversation. My experience with Medici is the Hosts/Hostess rarely if ever reads the comments section of OpenTable reservations. We were placed at a table for 4 near the entrance and bar with tables surrounding us. The nearby conversations and background noise made it very difficult to have a conversation.
The food and service were good.
We hadn’t been there in a long while but it was just as good as it’s always been. Great food, great service and no sky-high prices. Love Medici!
Met for a birthday dinner. Server brought appetizer out with entrees. Bill was mixed up. Food was good but service a disappointment.
Nice for lunch.
One of the best rib eye steaks I have had in bloomington -normal in a long time!
Good food, wide range of food options and great service.
Requested a booth at the time of my reservation. Was not seated in a booth...even though a booth was available...when I inquired about the open booth I was told it was reserved for someone else...hmmm. My dining companion arrived before I did...hostess said the person was already seated and pointed saying see those wine boxes..your table is over there indicating my companion probably went to the bathroom...hostess did not escort me to my table. Sat down at a table and a server turned to me asking why I was sitting there....then the hostess shouted from her stand...not there, over there. Looked around and spotted my friend. Embarrassing treatment by hostess ... won’t go back to Medici’s for the foreseeable future...as a result of this treatment I did not enjoy my meal.
Always a great experience at Medici. The staff is as high quality as the food and drinks. There is a reason that Medici is one of the noted restaurants in the Bloomington/Normal metroplex.
Always a good experience and food at Medici. Awesome beer selection on tap too.
Great food, atmosphere and service. I recommend the Salmon Brulee with Smoked Gouda Mac. Best to make a reservation or you could have to wait quite awhile to get seated.
The menu was interesting but the taste did not hold up to the descriptions. Gouda Mac first arrived cold. Our server was quick to replace it. It was hot but tasteless. The salmon was too fishy and the Jambalaya mediocre.
Our server was charming and attentive.
Our last visit was disappointing. Prior experiences have been much better. Hopefully this one wont' be repeated.
The first disappointment was arrival. The host staff appeared to be seating reservations/walk-ins of fashionably dressed millennials in desirable areas and pushing families with kids (with reservations) to their upstairs "banquet" area (much noisier, less ambiance). Requests for better seating were met, but with a fair amount of nose-in-the-air flare. This is Bloomington/Normal, folks. Families with kids eat out during the early hours. Ours read politely and don't make a fuss. If you want to be the restaurant that warehouses families to the "cheap seats," get rid of your kids' menu. We have never experienced this before with Medici - it has been a family "go to" - but this attitude from front-of-house makes it hard to want to return.
Jacki, who helped us at our table, was a breath of fresh air, conversing politely with our whole group (kiddos included), getting drinks quickly and getting our orders in and expedited. This was especially impressive since she was managing a large group of college kids at a table nearby and having to split a huge table into multiple checks.
The meal was just OK. Husband tried the new street tacos and they were probably the best we had at the table. I had the Korean Lettuce Wrap appetizer as a main - in the past it has been chicken with a little jicama, this time it was tons of thick cut jicama with some chicken bits for flavoring - this recipe appears to have been altered to use less protein. Kids meals were kids meals - but note that kids' burger came out on full-size bun and was super hard for a little mouth to work with.
While the atmosphere was nice, Brunch menu was somewhat limiting, and their interpretation of Brioche hamburger bun is a hard roll...
I would maybe go back for drinks, not to eat
Birthday celebration and our server Brie was amazing! The food was delicious and we had a great time!
The brunch options were very good and house Bloody Mary mix was amazing. Service was excellent and friendly.
The server was top notch and the drinks were great. The only thing better was the food!
Love Medici! Service is friendly and the food is always good. Have tried many things on the menu and have not been disappointed.
On parents weekend and we had reservations. We were seated immediately. Great food. Fantastic service. The only issue was finding parking but we did find a spot! We will definitely be back.
This is our second time here. My daughter attends ISU and we were in for Family Weekend. Great place close to campus! Even though it was a busy night, we were seated within minutes of our reservation time, our server handled all our requests and the food was good. I definitely recommend this to visiting ISU families! While we were here for orientation in June, we got to dine on the rooftop - very pleasant evening. Can't wait to come back!
This is one of our favorites when we are visiting the ISU Campus.
This is a great option in the ISU campus area of Blo/No. While the major chains are out by the mall and some amazing local options have opened in old downtown Bloomington, this is by far the best eats close to ISU campus in Uptown Normal. The place is beautiful with a modern vibe, and yet lots of warmth with the wood décor and large tree in the middle. Service was good; attentive but not intrusive. We had a Florentine pan pizza that was outstanding. We also had the Truffle Mac and Cheese and it was a little dry on this visit (but has been amazing on multiple prior visits.) Solid beer and wine selections. The star though?... Sweet Potato Tater Tots. I know it sounds juvenile but I kid you not; these things are homemade and unbelievable. They are served with a trio of great sauces (the wasabi being my fav). Go for the tots, you will not regret it...
Not a fine dining experience. Parking is an issue. The food sounds better on the menu than it tastes in person.
Our server, John, was so kind and patient while 3 friends who hadn’t seen each other ate & visited for about 2 hours. I had the daily half sandwich & salad. The salad was a nice blend but the blue cheese dressing had very little taste. The sandwich was basically a toasted cheese with bacon...nothing special. But the French fries were amazing!!!!!!
Food was pretty good. Hostess, however, didn't look at us when seating us, but with indifference said, "Enjoy your meal," as she turned away from us, disingenuous and without any warmth or true hospitality. Restaurant is noisy. Recommend some kind of divider be placed between tables, as neighboring guests conversations are right in the ear of other diners. Nice neighborhood place for a meal out, or celebration event. Noisy, though, so be prepared for that. Our server, Amanda, was lovely and attentive.
It was recommended by a friend and it was worth it!! Because it's in Up-Town parking can be a challenge but we found a spot just around the corner. Service was good even though it was ISU homecoming weekend. I had reservations for 6:30 and we came in about 15 minutes early and they were able to seat us in about 5 minutes. I would certainly recommend it.
This was our fourth time at Medici’s (we are from out-of-town) and we have never been disappointed. Their beer selection is superb. Their Medici Pizza hits the spot. And the atmosphere is great.
One of our go-to favorites in Normal. Many selections at reasonable prices. Always good service.
Great burger, good pizza. Very nice waitress ,would definitely try again maybe for dinner
We were a party of 5 on a Monday night, and the food and service were very good. We found Medici in a search of restaurants in Bloomington/Normal.
The portions were large, so you may have enough to take home for another meal. The crab cake was excellent. Some in our party ordered the berry cheesecake (very good) and the stacked chocolate cake (ok but rather dry). I had the teriyaki turkey burger and sweet potato tots. The flavor of the burger was good, although the bun was too big and almost tasted/felt stale; I didn't eat most of the bun. The tots were yummy.
Overall, a very good experience and we will return when we are in town.
