mEAT on Chestnut - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
There was literally no one else in the dining room on a Saturday night which seemed odd. The skewers were good but certainly not good enough to warrant the price. Plus, I got sick in the middle of the night which I can only assume was from the food. I honestly would have been more satisfied going to a fast food place and spending $20.
The unique-ness of the menu stood out, which is why I purchased a Groupon for this restaurant. However, this place disappointed. We planned on getting the beef tenderloin and salmon and they were out of both of those options. I almost cried because u had been looking forward to some good beef for dinner and my husband was excited for the salmon. I ordered a lemonade and I was told all they have is coke, diet coke, and sprite, plus they were also out of lemons! What? I asked the waitress why they were out of so many things and she responded "well, it's Sunday, and we don't keep a lot on hand." Ummmmmm...??? We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, which were good, but had WAY too many breadcrumbs, making it almost a stuffing. We ended up ordering the bacon wrapped dates (which were the best part of our meal), the pork (was ok), and the meatballs (which were not good). We ordered the loaded mashed potatoes, which looked amazing when they came out, but definitely lacked flavor all around, and they were dry! Our waitress did well with refills on my husband's coke and she even gave me a free refill on my shirley temple. (We're not big drinkers). Would I go back or suggest it to others? No, probably not.
Unique dinning experience. If you want to try the fondue appetizers you have to sit indoors. City code prohibits open flame outdoors. Salmon skewers were very good and would go back just for those. Very nice combo of flavors. Chicken was cooked well and moist, but not a lot of flavor. Lobster risotto was very good, also, and quite a bargain for what you get. Wisconsin cheese fondue was uneventful without any other depth of flavor. Fondue Mac and cheese was good, but even better the next day warmed up. Note: no ice was provided for our water and it was just semi cold. No salt or pepper on table.
We had a party of five on a Saturday night, we ordered the tuna flatbread, stuffed mushrooms and the fondue. Our entrees were shrimp, andouille sausage, pistachio pork chop, meatballs and beef tips, the sides were grilled vegetables and loaded mashed potatoes. We had more than enough to eat, with leftovers. The food was really good, we will go back.
The food was all just slighlty over cooked, nothing so bad that I would send it back. Chicken dry, sausages a bit tough, and skillet cookie a bit burnt at the edges. For the price there are other places in the city that do skewered meats better. Also if you want any of their fondues don't sit outside. We were not informed until after we had been seated that they only serve fondue inside.
The location is nice and our waitress was nice. This place is over priced. The food was just okay. The magic Margarita was very yummy but I can get drinks anywhere. We literally tried everything and it wasn't anything to wow home about. This was our first and last visit.
Food was tasty... service due to understaffing could improve. Had the Mac & cheese(excellent), bacon wrapped dates and the shrimp. No salads or bread.....With 2 glasses of wine and tip close to $100. It seemed over priced this year. Average in neighbor restaurants probably closer to the $70.
It is great to go back and try something different each time you go. The skewers are plentiful and the sauces that accompany truly complete the meal. They have everything from beef, pork, chicken, seafood. Many great choices and hard to decide. Never had anything I did not like!!!
We arrived right as the restaurant opened and were the only ones in the restaurant besides one other table. Waited on us right away to order, but after that service was not very good. Only one waitress and she waited on a table of 10 as well. In the end, we had to wait 30 minutes to have our food boxed up and receive a bill. She took a long time waiting on the larger table, and felt the need to bus the entire table of all dishes and glasses before coming to our table to see if we wanted our food boxed up and receive a bill. If she was paying attention to us at all, she would have realized that we had not been eating our food for quite some time and were just sitting there waiting. I would love to recommend this place to others, but really felt the food was nothing spectacular and poor service. I will say the food was received pretty quickly and it was hot.
We arrived late for our reservation due to traffic. We were greeted and assured it was no problem. We were in a hurry so we could make it to the theater. Waiter was very helpful in rushing our order and making sure we were able to get served and make the show. The food was delicious. We ordered several items and shared among our group. We will be back when we can take more time and try dessert.
We went here for my boyfriend's birthday. It was just romantic enough to not be cheesy. The portions are substantial that you don't feel as thought you are going to be hungry 30 minutes later. The pork was a bit overdone but the surf n turf dish made up for it. Would definitely recommend that for anyone who tries out the restaurant.
mEAT includes meat and seafood on skewers, cheese fondue to start the day and a chocolate fondue in case you haven't eaten enough calories by dessert. There are also side dishes and a few other more traditional items on the menu. We had beef, chicken, shrimp and scallops on skewers and the fondues noted above. All were excellent. Service was friendly and sufficiently attentive. This food combo was for four people, to give a sense of quantities. mEAT, like similar Brazilian-type steak houses, is not for the faint of wallet, but there are pretty frequent coupons and Groupons to lessen the blow. All in all, an enjoyable and delicious place to visit.
Food is always good, however, the evening we went the service lacked a bit. In the past it did not. Our skewers came without any of the sauces to accompany them. We asked for them but the wait to get them was so long they were almost all eaten before the sauces finally came. That never happened before. Usually they come with the meal itself.
We came to mEAT to celebrate a birthday and the wait staff exceeded my expectations. We have been to the Lakeview location and were excited to try out the Chestnut location. I was more than pleased with the different menu but overall same quality and great dining experience! Will definitely come again!
The restaurant has a nice vibe and good ambiance. The food was good and flavorful but the prices are ridiculously expensive, especially for the a la carte skewer. 18 bucks for a few pieces of beef, 17 dollars for a few pieces of pork which were slightly overcook and not as tender as I would have made them, 25 dollars for a few scallops and finally small portions of alcoholic beverages with the full market price. If you have money to waste go for it. I would recommend you visit Fogo de Chao and spend a few bucks more for unlimited food.
