About McMillin's Dining Room
Roche Harbor’s McMillin's Restaurant is located in the historic home of John S. McMillin built in 1886. In 1956, the late Reuben J. Tarte and his son, Neil, purchased Roche Harbor. By 1958, the Tarte family had restored many historic sites, including the restaurant, which was once the home of John S. McMillin. Additional seating in the restaurant was added in 1964, and the gazebo and deck were completed in 1977. On March 15, 1989, the Tarte family sold the resort to the current owners.
For over 40 years, the tradition of excellence has continued at Roche Harbor, the landmark boating and leisure destination resort that exists today. The restaurant remains a favorite for those who trek by land and sea to enjoy a truly unique dining experience on the very northwest tip of the Pacific Northwest.

McMillin's Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
Dinner was well prepared, and ample. Ambiance was appropriate: waterfront, not too noisy, casual and comfortable, the kind of place you would want to go on a wet fall afternoon in the San Juan Islands. Service was excellent: efficient without being obtrusive. Server was friendly and attentive, even though she obviously was busy.
I got a note from you that we did not honor our reservation. We did, we arrived on time and notified the person who greeted us that we had a reservation. Don't know where the mix-up occurred, but it wasn't us.
Apparently a reservation for a window seat must be made more than a week in advance as we had a table in the back of the room. But truthfully the windows are huge and we could see the harbor area just fine from our table. The food was good and the portions were huge. Our service was wonderful and our waiter was very attentive.
McMillan's is always favorite, but the new (from 4 moths ago) menu was a nice surprise with many great options. The food was absolutely wonderful in presentation and taste. The only (small) knock was the raspberry sauce on the Key Lime Pie. Both were very good, but didn't really go together in my opinion.
Horrible handicapped access. Does not exist. No place to park. Meal and server were awesome. Manager worthless. We go back because of view and food. And I make a great effort to get up and down steps. Use a walker, try my best. At 70 it is a little daunting.
We love to bring our visitors to Stuart Island to McMillans for a great dining experience. Sarah, our wait staff, did a great job. Your Crab Bisque is beyond delicious...I can't avoid ordering it when we come for dinner. We will continue to be loyal clients...
Ours was such a nice dining experience at McMillan's. We had been earlier in the summer and definitely wanted to return with our family; It didn't disappoint. We had great service, a very nice meal - order the Tuna Stack- it's terrific and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. Who wouldn't be happy looking out from your table over Roche Harbour?!
The waitress new nothing about their beer selection. She new they had "bud and bud light and maybe miller. " Non of those should even be served at a nice restaurant. They should have a selection of high end microbrews to match their wine list. They may have but our waitress didn't know and did not seem interested in finding out. They should at least have a couple of beers from the San Juan brewing there on the island.
My experience in this place overall was very positive. The food were delicious, fresh, and served beautifully. However, the food were little bit too salty. The service was okay, but not perfect. We ordered table in this place near the window to have oceanview the one week before our event, but when we came they said us that all tables near windows busy right now.
Poor service - waiter knew nothing about the menu and got frustrated when asked about specific wine selections. The vegetarian dish was a pile of the same vegetables that come with the dinner and arrived cold at a grand price of $30! The lamb Wellington was described as pull apart lean roast lamb but was chunks and tough.
Issue arose after discussing the bill with how and who got their dinner issue resolved, although the poor items were subsequently taken off the bill.
Little disappointing since it was recommended by a personal friend who dines there all the time when in the moorage. Friends we brought were very disappointed and it kind of ruined a cool evening.
I really enjoyed my dining experience. The menu selection provided an ample variety to chose from. My selections were very delicious. The other members of my party also were very satisfied. The staff was prompt and attentive. I will be back and recommending McMillin's to all.
Have been going there for 24 years. As always I order the amazing prime rib and happy to pay the$45 price for the medium cut. It's gone down hill................a piece of well done prime rib when I asked for and without the cap on the meat............dry..........Server acted like she could care less if I liked it. Overall - a nice time with friends but disappointing for the first time. Will try again and hope this is not the new standard.
Had a fabulous experience dining at McMillin's for our 20th anniversary. They took great care of us an provided a very enjoyable evening. Delicious food - with a large enough menu to offer plenty of choices. Ate in the bar at a table overlooking the marina, and enjoyed a spectacular sunset.
Mcmillin's is a delicious gem in Roche Harbor, but it needs a serious update. Wood paneled walls from the 50's (60's? Before I was alive, anyway) have no place in a restaurant that charges $50 per person in my opinion. The setting is lovely, though, overlooking beautiful Roche Harbor, and provides a small, intimate setting. It is lively but not noisy and while relaxed, is also good for special occasions.
An awesome view and great food! What more could you want. The service and quality of food was great. My wife is celiac and they were very accommodating to her needs. Cocktail list was very thematic "Pig War" martini was my wife's selection, it even comes with a tiny pig.
We had the oysters for an appetizer, Wescott Bay and Kushi's.
Main course I had a wonderful lamb special, that was cooked to perfection.
The entrance to the restaraunt was a little tricky, watch you step on the last stair.
We had a lovely meal with old friends here the other night. The food and service were good.
Unfortunately, when I ordered the wine I should have paid more attention. I looked at the list and ordered a chardonnay in a price point that I was comfortable with. The waitress showed me the bottle to me prior to opening it. At this point I should have noted that this was the wrong bottle, but I just wasn't paying enough attention. The wine list apparently had 2 chardonnays by the same winery. I did not realize this and just assumed it was the one I ordered. They are not listed together on the list. The lesser priced one that I thought I had ordered was toward the top of the list and the one that was $40 more was further down the list. Once we received our bill we realized our mistake on the 2 bottles that we had consumed. We discussed this with our waitress and she basically told me that she had shown me the bottle. One bottle was the un-oaked and the other the Reserve. She took a couple of drinks off of our bill but that was all she could do. Bottom line for us was that perhaps the waitress could have clarified that there were 2 options of this chardonnay when ordering with a substantial price difference or perhaps the menu could have the 2 options next to each other so the diner could make note of the price difference and the style of the wine.
Excellent Harborside restaurant overlooking the Roche Harbor Marina with views rarely seen anywhere. Get there early for a window seat if possible . The service was good and seafood fresh and excellent. The pastry chef , well forget it , not the best . I had the berry cobbler. The crust was not crisp and the berries were not tasty. This restaurant is a gem so don' t mis it !
We enjoyed our dinner. Our only complaint was that after we placed our order the waiter came back and said that my petite cut prime rib was no longer available, but I could buy the medium cut for $10 more, since they were out of the smaller , I didn't think that I should have been charged for the larger one, which was more than I wanted and at least $10 more expensive. Otherwise, we enjoyed a very expensive bottle of wine and delicious salads and soup.
