I love this restaurant! The owners Aziz and Soheila are so welcoming, making their guests feel special the minute you walk in the door. The food is amazing and the music is old school. Just loud enough to enjoy without being so loud as to inhibit conversation. My favorite Buckhead go-to!
Really enjoyed! Can’t wait to go back!! Beautiful ambience amazing wine list!
Fantastic food and service, a great hidden gem in the middle of Buckhead!
We've been coming to McKinnon's for years to celebrate Fat Tuesday. Aziz always takes great care of us and ensures a fantastic time. There a reason this is the longest operating restaurant in Atlanta.
I've been eating here for 20 years. While Aziz was a perfect host (as always), the kitchen seemed to be off their game the night we ate there. The Oysters Rockefeller contained more spinach than oysters. Instead of enhancing the flavor of the oysters, we had to dig through a mound of overly seasoned and overcooked spinach. My blackened amberjack, which is usually a hit, was overcooked and dry. My wife's Grouper Louisiane was good, but with only a miniscule amount of lump crab. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and come back, but I really hope the kitchen picks it up a notch.
Classic cuisine, pristine service. It’s been around for decades, but no complaints because fine dining like McKinnon’s is hard to come by nowadays. Grouper Louisiane is rich, creamy, buttery and oh so tender. The seafood gumbo is full of shrimp and bits of crab and mildly spicy. Yum!
Service was almost non-existent. Had to ask for bread, more water and check. No one ever came to the table after we were served. Never asked if we wanted another glass of wine. Food was mediocre . Blackened amberjack was tough. Wife's grouper was very small. Portions were very small for price. Extremely disappointed as we understand this used to be a very good restaurant. For seafood, it can't compare to Pappadeaux's.
The place is over rated and the service sucks. The food was not all that either. And the fact that I used a coupon and they wanted to add a 18 % gratuity to poor service makes me know I will never go back again
Wonderful time with feiwnss!
It’s sad to see a restaurant in decline. I looked forward to a Cajun meal as I had here years ago, but time has taken its toll. The recipes badly need a refresh to use fresher ingredients and improved presentation. The Java shrimp was a pleasant taste but the sauce lacked a freshness and had the consistency of ketchup. While the proprietor was concerned about the heat level it showed a lack of awareness on today’s cuisine where many ethnic restaurants have much higher heat levels in the food. The mixed green salad was torn romaine and quartered winter tomatoes, no mix of veggies and no imagination. The salmon was fishy and could not eat it. The creme brûlée lacked sufficient vanilla to give the flavor a boost. The saving grace for the restaurant is the very gracious service. Other restaurants could learn hospitality from the staff. My suggestion—hire a consulting chef to be today’s New Orleans cuisine
We took our neighbors here for a “Thank You” dinner, and they were Very impressed with the food and the charm. From appetizer to dessert, everything was perfect. Definitely a place we will visit soon.
An excellent place for high-quality food, great service, intimate and quiet.
Very nice and relaxing. Food very good.
Great food, local ambiance in an old family restaurant! Would recommend to anyone looking for a good evening.
Service was very slow had to ask for someone to take a drink order, then 15 mins later had to ask for a menu, then had to ask for someone to take our order. When the food came it was so good we would consider coming back sometime.
Gewurztraminer wine excellent,
Live Mild music really pleasant
The two tables adjacent to us were given a sample of several dishes before ordering as my guest and I were never offered the same so it made us feel a bit out of place but with it being my birthday we chose to stay.
Excellent New Orleans food. Romantic quiet ambiance. Owner personally greeted us and there was great attention to detail
Must've been short staffed. We got seated 35 min past reservation time. Waited 5 minutes at the bar before someone even asked what we'd like to drink. Didn't have one actual server the whole night just different people coming to the table. If the food had taken a really long time to come out I would've given 1 star but it came pretty promptly and it was good, just small portions.
Excellent since Aziz is back
The owners and staff were awesome!! Very welcoming plus the food was great!! Will definitely put on my short rotation list.
The owner, Aziz, is a wonderful host and goes the extra mile to make his customers feel welcome and at ease. The food is fantastic and the service was prompt!
Great hidden gem right in the heart of Buckhead!
Better than expected!!
The food is horrible the owner is terrible and again the food is horrible I’m born and raised in New Orleans and that food is nothing like what I’m use to or any other person from New Orleans and the restaurant smell like old sheet and old wood
Probably my favorite restaurant in Atlanta going on 30 years - great food, great service, Aziz is a wonderful host
An Atlanta tradition as is Aziz! Don't forget to visit the lounge.
We have to send for the server for everything. Ordered two steak dinners. All came almost raw. Server never asked how we would like our steak cooked. Too costly for the value. Will not return or recommend.
Love this place. Aziz and his wife are so awesome and make us feel like family. Wine selection is great and bartenders capable. Lively bar scene for after dinner. One of my favorite places in Atlanta.
This was the worst restaurant experience ever! The food was disgusting. The building was disgustingly old. You can clearly tell renovations were never attempted. I hosted my birthday dinner there (party of 20). We were in a “private room” which looked terrible. Prior to ordering we were told they do not split checks, however we could use multiple cards for payment. This is something that owner Aziz, whom I spoke with on several occasions, should have informed me of. Once we got passed the splitting of checks, we ordered and our food came out. The food couldn’t be further away from New Orleans cooking—disgusting! It was bland and tasted old. The sauces that were tomato based tasted like the tomatoes were dropped out of a can. My entire party was disappointed.
Now the main event...the check!! With they way technology has soared and continues to soar you would think this restaurant would want to operate in an effective and efficient manner. NOT THE CASE. Our server proceeds to give me the check for the evening-A HAND WRITTEN CHECK and advises me that I would have to perform the math and divided up each meal, apply tax and gratuity....what! Needless to say dinner was at 8pm. We were finished eating around 9:30 pm. The restaurant closed at 10pm and we didn’t leave until 10:30 pm because of the check nonsense.
This restaurant needs to be rescued or closed down! I believe it opened 30 years ago and they still operate as they did 30 years ago. Opentable should really consider removing them. The best part of the night was leaving!
There was a group of 6
Took great care of us
Not what we expected, very unorganized, with a very long wait. The place was empty. The waitress tried to charge our party of 7 for two party fees one for $28 and one for $32, and there was no fee to be added. The manager corrected it and stated it was for a party of 8.The restaurant didn’t have anything listed about it. I can imagine how many people have been ripped off by a party fee. He then said to us for your troubles , I will send complimentary desserts. We were not pressed for any but he had a waiter bring out a plate with 3 small sized desserts for 7 people. I can tell you we didn’t get the food, service or the atmosphere we hoped for but we sure did get a great laugh.
Wonderful! Low key fine dining, wonderful ambiance and the staff is very professional. Owner is great!
My family and I have been dining at McKinnons for years! Atlanta is one of the best cities in America! So many choices that sometime we forget the “classics”. I’ve been in Atlanta 36 years, McKinnons is by far my favorite “old school” restaurants... the food stands the test of time... grouper is perfection... crab claws! Best gumbo outside NOLA... service is over the top great...
Excellent menu with plenty of options to choose from. The owner was quite friendly and charming. Definitely going to make this a regular
There are rooms for whatever atmosphere you prefer. The piano bar is unique and has the experience required for a range of talents. I would make it a point to come back and try more dishes. The Crab Soup is absolutely superb. The owner is engaged to ensure your every requirement.
Been a favorite for years, host makes you fell like part of the family
