Should have known when it was the only restaurant we could in on Saturday night. Thought we would give it a try since reviews said it was authentic creole, not true. Food was mediocre. Waitress didn't know how to explain two dishes. Stuck in time.

McKinnons is an old-school restaurant with great food and wonderful service. The dining room is lovely, dimly lit, and quiet. Great for a romantic evening or special occasion with friends (which is why we were there). If you are looking for a trendy, flashy scene, with long descriptions of locally sourced ingredients, this is not for you. If you want consistent, delicious food, with great attention-to-detail service then this is your place! The piano player in the bar area has worked there for 32 year and knows every song requested. Aziz, the owner, will make you feel part of the family.

During a Show that was in progress in the Grille Room, an audio problem developed. A friendly patron offered his services, corrected the problem and the Show went on much to the delight of everyone in the Grille Room and adjacent Piano Bar. This is definitely a special place as are the staff & management.

Although the service the subpar, the food was not great. I asked for a well done steak and it came out being super raw. Nasty!! They took it and cooked the same steak and put it back on my plate. Do not eat at this place!!

Great romantic date restaurant in the formal dining room. Candle lit , quiet and cozy- it was a very romantic scene. The wait staff was very attentive and professional. The food was excellent . Must try the crawfish tip appetizer. You may want to order an additional side to share because the sides with the entrees are more decorative than filling. It was overall a very nice date night while visiting Atlanta and I would go back again.

Our family goes here every Christmas Eve. This year was harder because of newly discovered food allergies. They tried their best, but some things were missed and certain members of our party were not happy with this. We have a year to reevaluate whether to find a new tradition. We have been going here for years and always loved it.

Several of us ordered the grouper. Which was good but undercooked. One person sent it back to be cooked more. The 4th person ordered red snapper which he felt was not fresh and did not eat.
Several ordered The Savannah style crab bisque. It was wonderful.
We also ordered an appetizer which was very good.

Excellent food! We had the Grouper Louisiane and the mussels. Quiet enough for conversation. Decor is quite dated, but we enjoyed ourselves very much.

I decided to try the restaurant based on seeing them on Scoutmob for several months. The service is great. The hostess and waiter were very friendly and personable. This was my first time here so I wasn’t sure what to expect for many locals of Atlanta they may be more familiar as they’ve been around for some time. Majority of the customers are mature adults (55+) so it’s definitely not a young hip spot for millennials. The food wasn’t the best but it wasn’t horrible. On the positive they have a great wine selection. If you’re looking for a place to take your parents or grandparents for dinner this is it!

Can’t believe McKinnon’s has been here since 1972, and my 2 friends from Louisiana and I didn’t try it until 2017 (happy 45th anniversary!). To be here that long, they must be doing something right. I agree with the descriptions that come up when you Google McKinnon’s: an Atlanta classic...served amid 1970s style decor...old-school...time capsule. Liked all of that and had a good experience overall. Host was warm and friendly, waiter was nice, but new and from up north (hope he can visit NOLA someday and try/learn the sauces), and the food was ok but not great. Did like the gumbo. We have wanted to try it for years and are glad we finally went in.

This restaurant is a bit dated and the cost for food was much higher than the quality of the cuisine. We were looking for a special quiet spot to celebrate our anniversary and we feel we could have made a much better choice than this.

The lava shrimp was good, bread pudding and chocolate marquis was delicious as well. Everything else was just okay. Great place for drunk karaoke as they have a bar with open mic. Kinda vibe like Florence Foster Jones. I sound like her too when I sing!!

McKinnons is a nice restaurant and the food is pretty good. They however need to reevaluate offering 10:00 reservations when their kitchen closes at 10:00. The urgency to get us in and take our order diminished their customer service efforts or the lack there of.

Being from New Orleans the food at this establishment is mediocre at best. The food was not fresh at all, very bland and seemed to be pre-made. I had to send my order of oysters Rockefeller back because of the awful taste. I ordered the catfish which was very blah and my boyfriend ordered steak that was dowsed in bbq sauce, seems as if they were trying to cover up a not so fresh piece of meat by overloading it with pepper and bbq sauce. Overall the service was great and the decor needs an update but I will not be coming back.

We enjoyed the grouper Louisianne with crab and Hollandaise. Gumbo was delish, just spicy enough and wonderful bread for sopping up the broth. Service was spot on.

The restaurant was very gracious to us, as we were all visiting from California. We were greeted by the owner and he helped us with a full history and description of all the foods and the spices. The food was wonderful. The service was spectacular, and the ambiance cannot be matched.

Ordered the Grouper Louisianne. It came with a side of green beans and mashed potatoes. The beans looked and tasted like they had been on a steam table for hours instead of being freshly cooked. My guest ordered trout. Both of our dishes were rather bland. The service was excellent; however, the food was not what we expected. Oh and we sent the key lime pie back. It was not good either. Wine was good. Bread was good. Calamari was good. But that doesnt constitute two meals worth $85.

While the menu has a variety of food choices, the food was very bland! I had the gumbo and Grouper Louisiana-not good at all! One of my friends had the Oyster Rockefeller and Snapper Oscar-she said it was the worst she ever had! Another friend had the Amberjack with hot peppered shrimp-all she tasted was black pepper! However the service was awesome!
