McGill's on 61st Ratings and Reviews
I was looking for a special place to take my Dad for his birthday. McGills fit the bill.
Open Table worked to get the time and type of table I requested, the service was very good and even offered to charge my cell phone as the battery was dying. Which was needed to take a few pictures of the evening.
Food was very good, timing of food delivery was very good and the ambiance was perfect - quiet and upscale.
It is a steakhouse so expect elevated pricing but with that in mind, it was an enjoyable evening.
The service was great, very friendly and helpful. The only thing lacking in the food was the dinner salad. Lettuce was very wet and tasteless. Atmosphere was great, almost felt like we were the only ones in the room. Quiet enough to carry on a casual conversation. Will be back sometime.
The food might actually be very good, although I do not believe that our waiter did a good job of relaying our wishes to the kitchen staff. Our waiter was the primary issue and he seemed to be disinterested for most of the evening. I ordered the prime rib medium rare and he brought me a piece that was very obviously medium to medium well. When I commented on this he initially told me it was the lighting in the restaurant that was making it appear overdone and then told me it was because they finished the prime rib by dipping it in Au jus and this stained the meat. He told my husband that there is no grading system with beef anymore. We did not bother to tell him that we are cattle producers. He never offered to replace the prime rib nor did he offer to correct my husband's steak which was very obviously not a prime cut of beef, which is what mcgills advertises. Our crab legs were very waterlogged. Lastly, he did offer us a complimentary dessert to make up for the steak and the prime rib that were not prepared correctly, although he did not offer to correct these mistakes either. We ordered a piece of carrot cake which was delicious and he did not miss a beat in putting it on our bill.
McGill's is an excellent restaurant, especially for special occasions. We went there for our 24th wedding anniversary and it was wonderful. GREAT FOOD, awesome wine list. Felt like they went above and beyond to make it special for us. Really enjoyed the crime brûlée at the end. It's not the cheapest place on the planet, but is great for celebrations.
My wife and I went here for our 10 year anniversary because we had read great reviews on McGills and wanted to try it. The service was outstanding, I cant emphasize that enough, however, I ordered a rack of lamb and while it was cooked spot on medium rare, it was the blandest tasting lamb I have ever eaten. There was no seasoning other than salt and pepper on it, and if it wasn't for the homemade mint jello (I would not call it jelly) It would of been a real chore to eat it. My wife ordered a steak (I forget which cut) and she ordered her steak medium well, which the waiter specified to have a "just little pink in it" when she ordered, however the steak was well done. Our ticket total was over $80.00 dollars, and I left a 10 dollar tip on top of that. I suspect allot of the good reviews are from lifelong repeat customers for McGills, but for my wife and I as new customers are not impressed with the food enough to pay that much, or to return, had I known the food would of been like it was, I would of just went to Napa Flats and gotten lamb chops and a steak for less cost that would of been cooked correctly and had better flavor. McGills would be a fine location to eat at if the food was prepared to a quality to match the price, or if the price was reflective of the food quality.
Had not eaten at this location before, was in town for the Soul to Soul concert. We both ordered the filet and Australian lobster. Lobster was very good. My "6 oz" steak was about the size of a half dollar and just over an inch thick. My wife's looked like a 6 oz steak should. Asked waitress and she said mine was 6 oz. No way was it 6 oz, just a small medallion!!!
Waitress acted like it wasn't important and walked off. Will not be back
Our first visit in 20 yrs. Used to go to the 21st location, when we had money.
You still need money when dining here! I got fish, thinking the 'special' would be
same price or less than the fish on the menu. NOT. 12 bucks more! my trout was 32.00 with 2 sides. WOW! Might be another 20 yrs after that!!!!! No complaints or wows from my other 3 guests on the food.
It would be hard to find any fault. The service was excellent and personal. The salad was crisp, dressing was delicious. Loaded baked potato was just right. And the steak, oh the steak. Perfect. Hunting for a fault I would just say that the booth did not have ample space between the table and me. In other words, the booth was a bit tight for a fat old man. The food was so good I forgot about this and enjoyed the experience. Not cheap, but worth the price.
My husband and I are parents of three kids and we rarely get time for ourselves. We wanted to do something special for Valentine's Day but it just wasn't in the cards to go out on Valentine's Day so we made a reservation here a few days after that Romaric date and we are so very glad we did. The food was absolutely to die for, the champagne delighted the senses, the desert was mouth watering. My husband ordered a steak and it was cooked to perfection. I ordered crab and was thrilled that it had been pre-cracked. I am not a major vegetable person but I loved the vegetable medley it came with. Our waiter was awesome. He was friendly and funny but always in an almost regal way to keep the atmosphere very quiet and romantic. He also always made sure my champagne glass was full. The food wasn't brought out whenever. It was brought out when WE were ready for it which I have never experienced. The desert menu was awesome (I'm a big desert fan). I have absolutely zero complaints with our experience other than there wasn't wheel chairs to roll us out to the car in as we were so stuffed lol The prices are very reasonable as well for the atmosphere. All in all from a scale of 1-10 I would rate it a 12. Thanks so much for making our rare date night so awesome.
