McGee's Irish Pub & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed the atmosphere and food very much.
The service was also very good.
We wanted to hear all Celtic music, both live and piped in. I understood from the waitress that they try to please everyone, as they had a wide variety of music. However, this is a Scots-Irish pub and people should expect Celtic music there or go somewhere else!
Shane did a good job for having only been at the restaurant for a week or so. Took some time to get going, but would definitely go back.
The Beer Cheese Soup was fabulous. Worth the trip on its own. Good flavor on the burgers, fish, and sides, but they lost a lot of heat between the kitchen and the table.
We went on a lazy Saturday. Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. The bartender said that they had been in the building for 21 years (it was built in the 30's).
If in Anderson, plan a visit!!
We came to their eclipse party all the way from Pennsylvania and it was excellent. The food was fantastic and the staff couldn't have been nicer. They even started giving out free beer as the eclipse approached. We met the owner and he's was so warm and welcoming .
A group of 8 friends met for dinner and to see Seven Nations play live. The restaurant was very busy but that just gave us a chance to chat and visit with one another. The bar was VERY crowded and I think there was only one bartender so drink service was a bit slow. Our server Cathy (not sure if it was with a C or a K) was handling several tables and even with our large group, she was attentive and friendly. Everyone enjoyed their food and the folks who got the fish and chips were particularly impressed with the quality, quantity, and freshness of the fish. The corned beef and cabbage were also delicious. One of our party had the Reuben sandwich and commented on the bread being toasted but not grilled. Still, there were only a couple of to-go boxes filled. Seven Nations played for a bit over an hour and was as good then, if not better than they were when I followed them 20 years ago. A great time was had by all and we will go back.
McGee's has demonstrated by its longevity to be a downtown eating establishment survivor, providing a solid pub menu accented with several higher end selections such as salmon, steak, and specialty dishes. Food is consistently good to very good for a price point of $ to $$. They have a small but welcoming bar space and serve a wide diversity of beers, wines, and whiskeys. Their live musical entertainment primarily on the weekends is always exceptional favoring Celtic genres but not without exceptions ie bluegrass, blues folk, etc. The groups ate announced well in advance and seating as well as standing room is often a premium.
We went to McGees for a late date night. We arrived as the kitchen was closing and they were happy to seat us and take our order. Food was amazing! Great beer choices, extensive wine list, great menu. We had to try some Irish favorites and they were terrific. A cut above what we have had before from an Irish pub. We will definitely be back.
No matter what the occasion, you could not choose a better place! The food, the service, the atmosphere, is consistently impeccable and makes any occasion an outstanding dining experience ! After 11 years of going there, they continually raise the bar!

Food was good
Atmosphere was ok a little loud for me but I don't hear very well
Service was poor. It's was my wife's bday so a big deal for the family
My wife was literally cutting a bite of her steak when the waitress came with the check and a to go box. No complimentary piece of birthday cake. We were not even asked if we wanted dessert.
We were very impressed with the opentable. The waitress was waiting for us and knew we had a reservation. Our waitress was very attentive and answered all of our questions and made great suggestions. The portions were very good. We will definitely return and use opentable for reservations.
The food was better than expected. We ordered appetizers, wine, beer and main dishes. Everyone ordered something different and everyone was very pleased with their dish. We went on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend to avoid the Sunday crowds. The service was very good. Our server was new and we understood that even when she would pull in help to clarify things for us. Would definitely like to go back!
McGee's has a nice assortment of food and is family friendly. The service was fantastic. We ate the homemade Irish soda bread, honey mead chicken and blue ridge trout. All the food was prepared well and delicious. We preferred the flavor of the honey wine sauce on the chicken to the nut sauce on the trout. I would have preferred a savory herb sauce on the fish. The garlic mashed potatoes and bourbon apples were tasty too. We ordered the Bailey's Irish Creme cheesecake and chocolate bourbon pecan pie for dessert. The cheesecake was very creamy but not much Bailey's flavoring and the oatmeal crust was not good at all. The pecan pie had chocolate sauce on top and an aftertaste of bourbon with a heavy thick no flavor crust. Next time, we will skip dessert and try a glass of ice wine instead. The ambiance was a wooden working Irish bar which we enjoyed but take a light jacket or sweater to endure the cold AC.
We chose McGee's Pub for our 46th anniversary dinner because we've eaten there before and we like the Celtic food and ambiance. Nicole was our server and took special care of us for our anniversary dinner. She even took our picture for us. The steak was done to perfection, and we could not get over its wonderful flavor.
We entered as a couple, but the staff made us feel as though we were dining among friends.
One of our favorite places for Sunday Brunch. Nice choices and even Mimosas and Bloody Marys. The chefs at McGee's take special time to invent "special" dishes with sauces and seasonings perfectly blended. If you're in the mood for a sandwich and craft beer or fish and chips, this is the place. I would describe it has quaint, delicious food, nice atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. Must try it!
I understand the nightlife and summer movies on the patio are a lot of fun and I imagine pretty lively. We have to drive about 30 miles so have never tried either of those.
Dixie, John, and their staff consistently do an awesome job! They not only set the bar but keep on raising it! Because of the quality of their food and service, not only do locals consistently come there, people drive from up to a minimum of 45 miles away to have dinner at a place this grand!
We just got back from a holiday in Ireland and were missing the ambiance of the pubs there. We found a little bit of Ireland in Anderson, SC. Good food, and good guiness complete with the shamrock design in the head. Only disappointment was they took the shepherds pie off the menu. 😞
I really like the atmosphere at McGee's...I have been there four times in the past two years. All occasions to meet friends for lunch at 1:00 P.M. At that time there seems to be but one or two other tables occupied. I find the menu very limited and difficult to find something that stands out. The Reuben had too much fat for my taste, the Welch Rarebit was not as described, just cheese on half a bun. Others had specialty hamburgers, which seemed to be OK and I think the Irish theme selections seemed OK. I will give it another try. The bar selections are OK. The server, Aiken. was fantastic.
One could not ask for a better server than the one we had for lunch at McGee's last Saturday. He was very polite, attentive, helpful and friendly. The Reuben sandwich was good, but the corned beef contained too much fat for my taste. The portion was plentiful and the French fries and cold slaw were excellent. The ambience in Mcgee's is exactly what one might expect of an Irish Pub. The menu is extensive and offers American fare plus Irish favorites. I would recommend this place to my friends and associates.
We had a group of four that went on a Sunday for lunch. We didn't know what to expect, and were happy with what we saw. It is a nice Irish pub, with very good food, and drink. between the four of us we had bangers and mash, beer cheese soup, French onion soup, corned beef and cabbage, and a patty melt. Everything was very good. We all agreed this would be a do-over spot for us.
Excellent appetizer (BBQ Quesidilas) and we both had super entrees. My wife had the salmon salad and I had the "Mic-aroni". More than we needed to eat but it was so good we finished it. Good Rita's as well, great choice for the drink of the day. Staff is friendly and all have a good time there
