McDonagh's Pub Ratings and Reviews
The crock of soup should not cost more than the cup of soup since they're the same size! Ordered a cobb salad with cajun chicken but only received the salad, no chicken. Finally asked for the chicken and received a couple of tiny pieces of grilled chicken, not cajun. Not worth the $6 extra for 'chicken'. The bacon bits in the salad seemed like imitation bits. Usually happy with McDonough's but not tonight. The prime rib was good but the side of squash and zucchini was hard and undercooked. The waitress was friendly so we still gave a 20% tip.
This was my second visit and I was somewhat disappointed this time around. Two of us wanted the steak and was told that they didn't have any. A Saturday night at 7 oclock?? That I found odd. So I ordered the sliders and the rolls were hard as a rock. I asked for new rolls and the second round wasn't much better. However I will say the manager came over and apologized and when the bill came I was not charged for them. My husband ordered vegetables instead of the chips and they were missing from his meal, so we had to ask again. I asked for a candle on the dessert and that never happended. Overall its always a fun atmopshere with good live music every Saturday night. You can't go wrong with the huge pretzel as an appetizer. Our service could have been abit better. Great place for apps and drinks....I would skip dinner for this one!
Cool interior... traditional pub feel mixed with some bright colors on walls, signs, etc. Some historic memorabilia on display. Good food & service. Bar area is separated from dining area by a half-wall, so it's an upbeat atmosphere. Lots of wood, hopefully much of it is original to the building!
went for St. Patrick's day and the food was great so was the service and since they were serving both the restaurant and they had tent party seating in the back they get big points for not letting the quality of the food or service become compromised. Would go back for this or just to dine anytime.
I was wandering around on OpenTable (a reservations app) because sometimes you can find restaurants there that don't always come up on YELP.
Anyway...we got there at 6:45 and were greeted by a very nice hostess, and by live acoustic music (Friday night) right off the bat. Sweet! We had our children (both under 10) with us, and didn't feel at all like they didn't belong. They were welcomed!
I was really hungry (and I'm pregnant lol) so I ordered:
Boneless Wings (buffalo)
Irish Stew (comes w/ rye bread)
Wedge Steak Salad (w/ bleu cheese)
Red Curry Mussels
The boneless wings weren't my style at all. I didn't like anything about them, but some might. They were all white meat (high quality, but I don't like white meat), and there wasn't enough sauce. No biggie, hubby liked.
Irish Stew was incredible - excellent, even. With the rye bread and butter it felt (and tasted) like home (Michigan, not Ireland - I've never been.)
Wedge salad was fantastic. I loooved the bleu cheese, and the steak was amazing. Tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Michael LOVED his mussels (they smelled incredible), and so did our 4-year-old. Ha! She ate more mussels than mac 'n' cheese!
His Shannonbridge Pie he enjoyed immensely. It's a lot like a Shepherd's Pie, except topped with a lot of cheese. We had leftovers of everything except my Irish Stew - which I'm now craving.
If you haven't been, go! I can't understand how this place doesn't have a higher rating! Oh! Beer selection was grand, too! He got 3 different pints and enjoyed them all! Naturally.
Great Vibe for a larger Pub.
Food is heavier to the Burger and Sandwhich side but the BURGERS ARE AWESOME and handmade 10oz.
The Rib Eye was buttery and tender and full of flavor.
Our drinks were on point and they have an AWESOME Bloody Mary!
Dessert was limited selection but very good.
I guess you can say a focused menu and they do it well!
My husband and I went for an early New Years Eve dinner/cocktails.. he ordered the Pretzel appetizer, and I ordered the corned beef egg rolls for an appetizer..
The pretzel was HUGE! It would be great for a table of four( at least ).. it was also super yummy!
The corned beef egg rolls were OUTSTANDING! I would come back JUST for this app alone!
For main course, my husband ordered a pizza, and I ordered Chicken Murphy, with potato leek soup and a Caesar Salad.
The potato leek soup was wonderful..! Great balance of taste! The salad was crisp, cold and fresh ( exactly like it should be )... the chicken Murphy was delicious, although it was super spicy( just a tad too spicy for my comfort ).
My husbands pizza wasn't good, however. It wasn't fresh.. it was clearly frozen and tasted that way as well.
The Guinness was good( of course ).. I just wish the bar staff knew how to pour it PROPERLY. I mean, it IS an Irish Pub...
Anyway, we'll be back.. nice atmosphere.. local crowd.. clever ambiance!
Everyone enjoyed their meals and the service was fantastic. We thought it was a bit pricey for the food, but can't complain because overall food was good. The Reubens were great as well as the Irish Russian. I had the pub grilled cheese and my soup was cold and so was the sandwich. I'm a vegetarian and was looking forward to tring the sandwhich. Although it was cold, it was still good. Will definitely come back in the future!
I always enjoy McDonagh's but the one problem I had this time is that they advertised free corned beef sandwiches for their anniversary celebration but when I got there, I was told it was only for lunch. Don't get me wrong, I'm not just looking for a handout. My girlfriend & I made a reservation to go. Had two
I had a very good time at McDonagh's Pub. The corned beef egg roll appetizers were great, my French onion soup was great and the 2 deserts we had were great. Our main meal was less than par, as my sizzling steak was just ok. The meat was bland, with no seasoning. My wife's meal, the Sheppards Pie was too meaty and not enough vegetables.
Overall a good experience!
