Despite having reservations for dinner, my wife and I were sat in a booth in the bar area. The food was good (I had fish and chips) and I enjoyed and excellent beer (Erlinger Dunkel). They have a large beer selection of beers on tap. The waiter was slow and seemed new, so maybe just getting used to his job. Seems like a place better for having a beer with a buddy than a date with a wife.
We met our daughter and son-in- law, who live in Vinings, to celebrate my dear husband and soulmate's fiftieth anniversary of his twenty-nineth birthday...79! We had a great experience with service. Our food was very delicious and was served in a timely manner. There were a couple concerns, which I will share and attempt to keep it brief. We had a 7:00 reservation and was promptly guided to a booth as requested. I requested to sit in the last booth (we had enjoyed Mother's Day Brunch in the booth). I was standing quietly while waiting for the booth to be cleared and was approached by the dark hair hostess with glasses who stated there is a booth ready right there. I said OK and thank you. My other concern was the temperature. We are experiencing record temperatures, but the area was not comfortable while drinking and eating hot entrees. On the wsy to the restroom the bar area felt several degrees cooler. We love the spot and will hopefully return in the near future. I recently retired from teaching with 19+ years in Gwinnett and 18 years in Indiana.
I decided to try McCray's for a first date. My date and I had a very good experience and a wonderful evening. On our second date, we actually returned to McCray's and we had yet a very good experience. It has been decided that this is "our place" from now on! The staff is very friendly and attentive. Best I've ever known!
Food was awesome and the service was spectacular! A great downtown location!
Alex, our rooftop server, was outstanding 👍👍 I would definitely recommend the salads with homemade dressings 😋
Good food, good beer selection, good service as usual. One of our favorite spots for family date nights.
Wonderful food, great service. Nice beer and cocktail list too. I got the “Grizzly”, very large cheeseburger with bacon and delicious feta pasta salad on the side. Had two old-fashioneds. Very good. Calamari was fantastic. The tavern chips were great though they could use a little less bleu cheese dressing but otherwise very good. Everyone else loved their food. Desserts also amazing, bread pudding is what I got both times and it’s phenomenal. Wife got the blueberry cheesecake. This is second time we’ve come here to visit my parents and they recommended it. So we’ll be back.
Great service and good food. I had the chicken salad awesome!!
Everything made for a perfect Father's Day. The Bloody Mary Bar was outstanding!
We had a 4 generation party of 7 for a celebration. They were very accommodating even to the point of having a door to the room with a ramp from the outside. Our meals were very uneven in quality. My salmon topped salad was good though the kitchen had forgotten the dressing. My husband's beef sandwich, the special for the day, was tiny and with very little meat. The bread/bun was gummy and unappetizing. Other dishes were average. Our waiter was friendly and said he wanted to be helpful but disappeared for long stretches of time.
I absolutely love Mccray’ Tavern. Nice spot to hang with some friends. You can sit upstairs and get a nice view of Lawrenceville square. We sat inside this time though. Food was great! I highly recommend the Thai Chili wings and Southwest Wrap. The appetizer was phenomenal as well! Ordered the cheese dip. Drinks were delicious. I recommend going for the Southern Afternoon Tea. Service was fantastic. Our waitress really checked on us a lot but was not annoying at all. It was timed perfectly. Overall I love mccrays tavern and I will be back again soon!
We had reservations for 6pm. It was not crowded and were seated right away. My wife had the dos tacos, one grouper and one shrimp. She enjoyed it very much and said she would get it again.
Three of us placed our order. I ordered a burger med well and received rare! The waiter did not return to the table and I had to ask another waiter to track him down. He did not apologize or say he was sorry, but he appeared to be aggravated at my complaint. He took my rare burger after I had taken a bite out of it and cooked the same patty some more. I was stunned as I’m sure this is a violation of health regulations. We had a free birthday entree and two other entrees. The first bill had charges for all 3 entrees and the waiter said that the free entree had been taken off ( which it had not). After about 5 minutes of trying to convince him the bill was incorrect, he took the cost of the cheapest entree off. The restaurant was NOT busy but the waiter showed no interest in providing just the basic service. This occurred on Tues June 4 at 7 pm. I would have asked for a 100 percent refund of oll 3 entrees but my daughter (birthday girl) had picked this restaurant and I did not want to embarrass her. If you have any questions and are really interested in your restaurant providing good food in a quality atmosphere, you can call Jim at 859 492 4439. If I don’t get any response I will assume that this level of service is acceptable to managers/owners and you don’t want my business just like the waiter didn’t want our business.
We arrived shortly after they opened for the day. Seated and served promptly for Sunday Brunch. The food was very good; server (Hunter) friendly and professional.
We decided to have dinner at McCray's before catching a play at the Aurora Theater. It was a good decision. We were initially worried because they were also hosting trivia night but the service was great and the food came out in a decent time. The fried mac and cheese balls were really good but could be cheesier. We didn't care too much for the honey mustard sauce it was served with. Overall, good experience and looking forward to going back.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was good, especially considering the price. The kitchen was slow on the Friday night I came--about 40 minutes for 6 entrees. I come for the atmosphere and the view of downtown Lawrenceville from the top deck! It's good for families, too.
Great experience. The hostess was very nice. My reservation, through Open Table, was at 1 pm. I arrived early and got seated immediately and was able to order a beverage prior to the other person arriving.
Our server was Graham and he was very good. He was attentive but did not constantly interrupt.
We started with two appetizers, the pimento cheese hot dip with pita bread and the fried okra which came with a delicious dipping sauce. This was a great combination.
We then shared the Shrimp 'N Grits. They were awesome. The grits were cooked to perfection. The shrimp were not tough and overcooked. The sausage added a nice bite.
I will definitely go back!
Our food came out super late. The server kept messing up too but I at least understand that because he was busy. We requested out burgers to be cooked medium rare and I was very specific about that! The server said that it would take a while to cook another burger again so he just took it off the bill. Overall, not too happy about the experience.
No appetizer selections that were healthier- maybe veges or something would be a nice alternative to the rest. I usually get hummus but did not want it this time. We were seated upstairs at the top entrance to that level so it was constant traffic and lots of talking. Great service and assistance with beer selection. Food was just average.
21st birthday celebration
Great service. Loved the buffet.
It was a pretty lackluster brunch for us for the price. The best part for me was the shrimp cocktail. It's pretty hard to mess that one up. The prime rib was cooked well, but lacked flavor. Our party of 6 was very disappointed in the desserts. When you are paying $30 per person you would expect some nice desserts. Offering hard, stale store bought sugar and chocolate chip cookies, and frozen petit fours from Costco's freezer section is crazy. It's Easter brunch. At least offer some coconut cake, banana pudding, etc. All of the bread was not fresh...the croissants for the chicken salad, mini bagels, and danishes all tasted old. I bit into a mini quiche (also from the frozen section of a store) and it was still frozen in the middle and they didn't have them over any heating element, so they were all served cold. Cold quiche = YUCK! I just expected more. Service was a bit slow. We had empty drinks most of the meal. Will not return or recommend for Easter Brunch.
A lot of the food was cold on the buffet. I know it’s hard to keep everything warm but it really affected the enjoyment of some of the items
I loved the Easter Brunch, the food was delicious and the service was fabulous. I was able to have a nice meal with my family and didn't feel rushed at all. I will definitely return.
My overall experience was good. My server was a little off but still acceptable. The food was great but pricey although it was Easter special brunch. I’ve been here before and the prices are decent for normal meal. I have recommended this place. And I will come back.
Disappointed in table for five with a four day ahead reservation (too tight for five adults; table not big enough for chair on open end. Food was OK, while Sweetwater 420 a good value. Server was excellent
Great tasting food and wonderful service. Have always liked this place.
First of all, I want to say that the manager did give us our party of 4 a $20 gift certificate to make things right. However, this is what had happened. I had a 7:00 pm reservation on Friday night for 4 people. When we got there, I requested the rooftop and was told the wait was 30 minutes. We said that was ok. We were seated around 7:30 - right as the sun was setting. We were surprised the rooftop was not full at all, and wondered why we waited 30 minutes. We ordered drinks and food from Graham, our server. At about 8:00, two other patrons were seated next to us. We had our drinks but no food as yet. At 8:30, the other two patrons received food...we still had not received ours and wondered about that too. Also, it was getting cold now that the sun had set. Graham was not coming over and updating us about our food either. At 8:45, we made the decision to walk downstairs and probably leave. We spoke with the manager (Kim?), who gave us a booth and we finally received our food at 9 pm. As I said, she gave us a $20 gift certificate, so I appreciate that she tried to make it right. I just think 2 hours was too long to wait for our food.
We have dined there many times & this night we ordered an appetizer & main course at the same time.
The appetizer came fairly quickly but the rest of the meal took a very long time to come out.
We had theater tickets so had a schedule to meet.
We arrived before our reservation time of 6:30 and finished the meal at 7:50. The theater started at 8:00.
Not sure we will be back!
I made a reservation a day in advance using the Open Table app. I put a note on the special instructions that we would like to sit on the roof top and that this was a first time visit for our family who were visiting from out of town. The hostess was not friendly and when I told her we made a reservation online the day before to sit upstairs on the rooftop, she said they don't do reservations for the rooftop. So that was embarrassing because I had just told my family that we would be sitting there. After she went up to the roof to see if there was an open table available, she handed me the menus and opened the door, so we led ourselves upstairs and had to find our own table. Our waitress was all over the place and during our drink order a fire truck drove by with horns blazing, and she was like- "this is why I don't live here" ...so that was pretty rude (I mean we DO live here and happen to LOVE downtown Lawrenceville). Other than the service being pretty poor, the food quality was excellent and the actual restaurant itself is very nice and even sitting on the rooftop was nice. But they definitely need to work on their service. I wasn't impressed.
Very slow in receiving food that wasn’t that good. Our appetizer took over 30 minutes to be served.. they stated because one of the other servers took ours for their customer...Fish n chips and the wings were soggy, not crispy. At least this time they had fish n chips. Several times previous they were out. All in all disappointing for dinner.
We made a reservation for 8 to try the Burgers & Brews burger. Our waiter was fine but the kitchen wasn’t. The sides came out way before the burgers. We completely ate our sides before the arrival of burgers. Then two people didn’t receive their burgers. One person didn’t receive their side. We saw burgers going past our table to tables who ordered after us. Management made no apologies or offered any compensation. We were also seated in the bar area where they had bingo. It was so loud we found it hard to talk to each other. Food was good, but not sure it was worth it.
Our favorite place in Lawrenceville overall!
Wwe will be back.
I understand that there was a St. Paddy celebration on the square in Lawrenceville and McCray's was slammed with walk-in customers. But our order was totally wrong two times and we sent one entree back (corned beef and cabbage for being terrible - cabbage was barely cooked and corned beef was almost dry thin sliced pieces. ). The waitress was very good and corrected all - but management should be aware that the kitchen totally screwed up everything. I gave the waitress a 20+% tip and thanks her for everything she did!!
Spotty. Food, service, etc. all had high and low notes. Burgers were fabulous, cooked properly to order, and correctly dressed, on a wonderful, grilled bakery bun. Bread pudding was well made but unimaginative.
However, fries were unremarkable, mashed potatoes were incompletely cooked, and beets tasted canned. Dinner salmon salad was bland and tasteless. Coffee was served in a cold mug, and only lukewarm.
Service was overfamiliar and slow. We struggled to get drinks refilled, which is a deal breaker for me.
We may be back, but only for the rooftop bar and the burgers.
We had a reservation for 7:15 for 8ppl for the comedy show and they had booked a birthday in that room that did not end by our reservation time. There was no urgency with the staff.
We came to McCrays for the 1st time for my birthday and it was excellent. The food was delicious and our server was in point.
We loved our server who has only been there a few months but is very attentive to detail. Food was the usual excellent!
Nice setting but food no better than average
We dine here a lot and really enjoy it. We will go again and again and again. Their food is great, the location is fun and they have a great patio when the weather is nice. One thing that was disturbing is that we went with a friend and she had a birthday coupon from them on her phone. They took her phone to verify...had it for about 5 minutes, and when she got it back they had deleted the coupon...and went into her deleted folder and deleted it from there too. I understand the point is so that coupon cannot be used again, but I feel like there are better ways to manage this than to go through the details of someone's phone.
