What a lovely and spot for a special occasion! For beverages, my Valentine and I tried two craft cocktails and the Tempranillo while we feasted on many of their appetizers. Instead of getting entrees, we made a tapas-style meal with the juxtaposed caviar and tater tots which were (not surprisingly) the best I’ve ever had. We also shared some oysters on the half shell which were the small, but tasty. The foie gras pate and the bone marrow dish were both served with wonderful fresh bread and the waiter also brought out these amazing pretzel rolls with salted butter. I was hoping to have more of the bone marrow flavor in the sauce, but it ended up being a creamy pool of umami flavor for the escargot to swim around in. The beef tartare was flavorful and was served with these onion puffs that had the texture of chicharrones but just the right bitterness to accompany the tartare. We ended our gluttonous feast with the affogato and beignet dessert...each fluffy beignet was singing with the smooth notes of espresso and chocolate.
First visit to Mcrady’a Tavern. The food was very good! I had the chicken special and my husband had the swordfish. Both were delicious! We also tried the escargot as an appetizer and loved it! The display might scare you a bit but you don’t eat the escargot out of the marrow bone or anything. We took our bone home to give to our puppy 😉 We will be returning!
We had our anniversary dinner here and were delighted with the service and food. Since we wanted to go more casual the atmosphere was perfect. If we had wanted more specialness then I would choose the regular McCradys. The deviled clams were really outstanding and spicy as advertised. If you do not care for the heat then avoid these but we both loved them. My wife ordered the ribeye medium and it was still a bit more red than that but within a minute or so longer on the grill. It was a very good steak, rivaling all others in town. I got the deviled lobster and it was also about a minute short of perfect and not near as spicy as the clams. I would have kicked it up a notch. We ordered a side of creamy mashed potatoes and they were very good, very smooth, not starchy. We finished with the Baked Alaska and it was a very good, updated take on the dish.
Dining at one of Sean Brock's restaurants has been a bucket list thing for me for a while. I was not disappointed to say the least. The food was delicious, especially the avocado toast. I'll be trying to figure out how to make that for a while! The croque madame was superb and the Quiche Lorraine with lobster was special.
When I made reservation I was not aware that we would not be able to order from the normal menu. There was a limited menu that required you choose an appetizer as well as a dessert, neither of which I was interested in ordering. On top of that, the price of the fixed menu was not advertised. Typically this type of menu is served during restaurant week where the prices are MAXED at $45. At McGradys tonight, the price was $70 each for a more limited menu. This should have been advertised before you could make a reservation. I would have chosen a different place with no hard feelings.
Long time Charleston eater.
we went for their Valentines dinner. It was quite pricey. Nothing special., No
recognition that it was a special night. Service was great as was the
lobster,our main course. Can't say the same for appetizer or the
"baked Alaska" dessert. Have not been there for years. Last time
I was there it was a dress up outstanding continental venue. I will try
it again but consider it another casual restaurant not for special occasions
Very pleased with food, table service and bartender. It has been quite some time since we patronized McCrady's. It was well worth the distance. We plan to go back again soon. Enjoyed a short time at the bar and then taken to our table right on time. Will definitely spread the word of our pleasant experience.
A great option for families with kids who still want an epicurean experience. Casual atmosphere, kids menu, fun vibe and plenty of noise (in fact, the only reason it gets four instead of five stars was that is was a little TOO loud). But, bottom line, it's all about the food, and it was fabulous.
Went with my husband to Sunday brunch yesterday. We both had a bloody Mary, and it was spicey and delicious. Next, my husband had eggs Benedict with a huge piece of ham. By far the best thing was the pork belly and grits with Brussel sprouts that I had. We had spent the whole week in Charleston, and this brunch dish was the best food I had. It was the special of the day, so you may not always be able to order this, but is you can.......outstanding.
This was our first time to McCrady's Tavern. Two things ruined the experience for us. First, the music being played was 1950s sock-hop nonsense. Second, there were five or six crying babies scattered around the restaurant. We payed over $200 for dinner for two and could not get out of there fast enough.
Food and Service are outstanding. The only negative was an outrageously priced wine list. There were no value wines and even upper my tolerance to spend $110 for a bottle of Chablis we not rewarded with a gem. I found the wine list lack of reasonable choice and inflated price to take a lot of the joy out of the occasion. Good Food and good service. Avoid cocktails and wine as they way over priced.
We had a wonderful time. The service was great, with the exception of the hostess, who was as energetic as a piece of toast. The rest of the staff was wonderful. The ambiance is warm and enjoyable. The noise level was a little loud, but you could still have a conversation at the table. The food was very well prepared and there was something for every palate. I am so glad that we were able to try this place after all these years.
I have always considered The inside Decour of this location to be one of the best in Charleston. I love this new concept. Did food for all four people with us was excellent. We took advantage of the restaurant week special and it was a great value. Can’t wait to return.
6:30 reservation on a Thursday night. We sat at the bar before our reservation and had the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was barely medium size and limp. For $17 it was appalling. Next, the hostess would not give us a booth because she had "just given the last one away"... we did a quick walk through and asked her about the three open ones and she finally gave us one. The snobbery continued. After spending $400 between two people, our server informed us that we were not allowed to order a scoop of ice cream because it was all prescooped in the many elaborate dessert options. I understand the concept of small batch ice creams but I find it pretentious and lame that an upscale restaurant would deny someone a scoop of ice cream. We left feeling embarrasssed and disappointed that our nice evening was spent at this snobby restaurant. The swordfish entree was average to top it off. In the end, they did bring us two scoops of ice cream on the house but it was too late for that. This place left us feeling robbed and shamed.
