One of the BEST restaurants I have ever been to. Service was excellent and food was superior. We will definitely be returning!
Good cocktails, great meal, cool old building.
Food and service were outstanding. Our server was very engaging and her recommendations were right on.
Outstanding.Excellent mgr and server. Delicious food. Beautiful room
Eating here was a wonderful experience. The food was prepared differently from any other restaurant I ever experienced. I highly recommend the caviar and tater tots for an appetizer for two or three people. (Don’t expect the tater tots to be like what you buy at the grocery store) Also, the “Wreckfish” entree was fabulous. Our waitress, Cassandra, was so nice and full of information about the food. I love that the entrance is in an alley; it made it feel like entering a speak easy.
This was a bucket list adventure into Charleston and eating specifically at this establishment. We did experience an unfortunate event during the meal, but the staff handled it exceptionally well and was more than accommodating to correct the error. It's a beautiful building, in a beautiful city! Food was extremely thoughtful and locally sourced. Our server was very pleasant and knowledgeable.
We had a very good experience. Our server was fantastic. She was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant. I had the local fish which was wreck fish. Absolutely delicious. For desert she suggested the oat brownie with peanut butter ice cream. It was amazing and it was also gluten free. I highly suggest this restaurant.
Both my wreckfish entree and my companion’s duck confit were creatively prepared and wonderful! Our server was very friendly and helpful, we would gladly go back to this place if we had more time in Charleston.
Oysters! Everything was delicious!
The hostess was lovely- even went out of her way to find a charger for my phone. Our server Michelle was great. She sold us on two specials (tuna crudo and duck were delicious, thanks Chef!) and a new blended rose for us to try. Everyone who touched the table was gracious and professional. When we learned about George Washington’s dinner upstairs they let us up there to see the dining room, where we encountered more staff that took the time to teach us more history. My sister and I were the last ones in the restaurant on a Sunday night (I know how obnoxious that can be) and no one made us feel unwelcome. Thanks for an awesome experience!
Fun old world atmosphere with awesome local catch food. Great specialty drinks. Wait staff was spot on!
Unfortunately, my meal of scallops was luke warm. I should have mentioned it to waitstaff on 1st bite. When the server asked how my meal was I mentioned my disappointment. The server was very apologetic & offered us a free dessert. I appreciate the way the issue was handled.
The food is outstanding. When I have out-of-town guests this is my first stop. The food is so innovative and so impressive.
Absolutely. The food was wonderful, and the staff treated us so kindly. Left feeling welcomed and stuffed :)
Stayed at the bar since our Bar attendant was so engaging I Have dubbed her BBTB.
She was great as was the food. Service a little slow as they had a huge group a head of us and it was late.
Terrific as ever! History and ambience well-preserved; friendly, first rate service, and wonderful food with fresh ingredients. One of our favorites in a city filled with fabulous restaurants.
It's not the same old McCrady's - but if the waitress didn't tell me, I may not have noticed. They are aiming for a more comfortable, affordable, less formal, experience. Even with the "step down" McCrady's is still out #1 in Charleston.
The ambience here is subdued lighting, high ceilings, exposed brick, and not at all noisy - very romantic.
Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. The staff made an effort to be warm and welcoming. Both our server and the manager came by to explain the dishes and wine list and answer questions.
Food was spectacular- not at all what we expected. Any restaurant with “tavern” in its name conjures up images of ale on tap and cheeseburgers. Uh, no that’s hardly an accurate description of McCrady’s. These were “MasterChef” quality dishes. We shared grilled octopus with pork belly, flounder crudo, and sea scallops, and each was delicious.
Sometimes you hate to give a five star rating because you want to keep the restaurant to yourself, and that’s how we felt about McCrady Tavern. This was a wonderful meal and we look forward to returning frequently.
Server - Tess was great. Very professional and funny.
AWFUL. The scallops were squishy, not firm. The swordfish was tasteless; I should have sent it back.
OVERPRICED. 2 cocktails, 2 wines, 2 apps, 3 entrees, no dessert, no coffee. $210 + tax and tip.
Amazing experience. Appreciate the wonderful food and service!
This was our first visit to Charleston and therefore McCrady's. I chose it as the restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my husband. There could not have been a better choice for the occasion. Our server, Rebecca, was an absolute delight to spend the evening with and she provided spot-on descriptions of the menu items we inquired about and ordered. She truly helped us feel right at home from the very start. We never felt rushed. The food was fresh, perfectly prepared and the craft cocktails added to the festive mood. We would not hesitate to recommend or return to McCrady's on our next visit to Charleston.
Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Beautiful venue and great service. Menu selection was a bit limited. Food was good but didn’t wow. Would recommend and return.
The food was just okay. Tough “local greens” and a run of the mill steak—surprising because this place was recommended and Charleston is such a great restaurant town. Wines by the glass delivered below their price point. The ambience and service were outstanding though. Next time I’ll go for a drink and a snack at the bar.
Had an incredible dining experience @ McCrady’s. We started with the oysters on the half shell. They were briny and sweet and fresh. I had the duck breast that was juicy and cooked to perfection and my husband had the pork tenderloin which looked delicious. We shared the oat brownie which wasn’t super sweet and had the perfect pairing of flavors with the toffee ice cream and peanut brittle crisps.
We had a fantastic experience at McCradys Tavern. The food and the service were spectacular.
Food was outstanding! You could get Scallops and Swordfish elsewhere but not like this! Everything popped flavor-wise with every bite. The apps too (Beet salad and Tar-Tar) Service was very attentive to every need. We look forward to coming back again
Great food & service highly recommend only downside it was very noisy.
We came here as 7 girls for a bachelorette party. Definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. The food was delicious, our waitress was the nicest, most helpful person ever! She described every detail of our food and drink questions impeccably, which helped when we were unsure what to order. We stayed for 3.5 hours, drinking and having a great time at our table. Everyone was so kind and nobody rushed us out. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great ambiance, amazing food, and fantastic service!
This was our second year our group of eight celebrated running The Cooper River Bridge Run. It was FABULOUS! I had the most flavorful, freshest swordfish I have ever had. Our meal and experience was memorable. The staff is friendly and very attentive. We will be back!
Would not hesitate to go again. Great service. Good portions. Although not marketed as a family restaurant they did great with my children, ages 10 and 15.
Beautiful brick and wood décor, attentive, professional service, and delicious if pricy food and drink. Enjoyed apps of an amazing beet and goat cheese salad, beef Tartare, kale and grilled veggies salad, potato leek soup, and grilled octopus. Mains included a rich and cheesy bucatini pasta, tasty scallops with a bland rice. Pleasant atmosphere for a leisurely splurge dinner. Great history.
MacCrady's had been recommended to us so we made a reservation. It is in a historical building. Apparently many historical figures had been there in the distant past. It has an interesting bar, cozy seating (with elbow room from other tables) and pleasant music. Our female IRISH waitress (name?) was so sweet, fun, welcoming and helpful. To hear her Irish brogue was an added plus. As we found with many Charleston restaurants, the menu was somewhat limited, focused mainly on food quality rather than variety. The dishes were creative, which means what you order may come out somewhat in a surprising way. As appetizer, we ordered the seafood crudo (somewhat like a ceviche). The taste and presentation were a unique surprise (in a good way). My husband loved his swordfish. I was a tad disappointed in the bucatini. I ordered it because the fresh pasta was made in house. It is a vegetarian dish with toasted hazelnuts. I found it a bit greasy and heavy. Other than that, we would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great vibe - decent service , good experience overall
Our meals were fabulous!!! The scallops and grits with tomato gravy still make my mouth water!
The dining room is stunning with its tall ceilings, grand bar, and wine cellar viewable from the floor. We ordered oysters on the half shell, which were delicious. My entree of duck was cooked perfectly, and suitably accompanied by sweet potato chunks. My husband's tenderloin was also delicious, and right portioned. I also like that they served just two slices of bread...the food waste at many restaurants is appalling, so I appreciated we were given what we wanted, and offered more, but not given more than we could eat. Our server provided the perfect amount of attention; quite a lovely evening!
If you like very generous salt seasoning on everything, then you will love McCrady’s.... however, if you request or require low sodium, then you will be very disappointed. The menu is rather limited, so make certain you check out their menu on their website. We had multiple servers and communication among them was poor. For example, we ordered a glass of wine with our entree with one server, had to repeat our request with someone else who asked how we are doing, and finally, 10 min after we were served our entree I had to tell a third person to cancel the wine if they could not get it to our table quickly. We are 20 + year locals and this was our first time to dine at McCrady’s in a very long time.... it will be even longer before we try again.
Fantastic dinner, perfect location for a nice upscale but casual dining experience.
Everything was great but it was a little noisy. I would have preferred a booth instead of a table against the wall I had to look at the wall all evening. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the menu. I would definitely go back again.
Awesome spot, unfortunately just a little loud with a large group.
