Traveling to Charleston and wanted a special meal experience
Got it and found service and unique menu
The dishes prepared here are thoughtful and well executed. Pair that with outstanding service and you have a great meal. This place stands out.
Food quality was wildly uneven. We went from a delectable miso shrimp appetizer to the most over-salted, dried out duck leg confit imaginable. Reception was surly, waitress going through the motions. In a city with so many dining options, this one can safely be skipped.
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. I hadn't been there since the restaurant divided to McCrady's and McCrady's Tavern. The portions were very small, the food wasn't as good, and the staff seemed very snooty. Not at all how I remember it.
We have dined before and was so disappointed in the food and especially our server. Will not be back
Food, atmosphere and service were outstanding. Highly recommend.
Great expectations for the duck. It arrived so rare I wondered if it was on heat at all. With such a limited menu one would expect great cooking attention which clearly didn’t happen. Our server was terrific, he tried to set things right. Other then the entre the food wad tasty and well prepared.
As usual, McCrady's Tavern was a delight. I had eaten a large and late lunch so when I arrived at 7:15 i wasn't hungry enough to order a big meal. I had two appetizers instead, including pickled shrimp and oysters on the half shell. They were both superb. My family (six of us in all) however ordered full meals and were likewise very satisfied. My wife had duck and others had pasta, tartare and tile fish. We were all quite happy. The service was excellent. It was a Tuesday night so it wasn't very crowded and the noise level was acceptable. Absolutely worthy of the highest recommendation.
Absolutely amazing food. Staff extremely knowledgeable. Page was our waitress. She paid very good attention to us without being cloying. I sometimes find when food is that this level that your waitstaff can be a little snobbish. Kudos to management and understanding that the customer is number one. I will definitely be back.
Great oysters and grilled octopus would come back
They made my birthday special. The waitress - Paige was very attentive. Water stayed full. They let us view the longroom and we got to take photos there. Overall a very good experience.
The food was great! The service was great! The staff was fun to talk with.
Excellent food service and hospitality. Highlight of dining while visting Charlotte over a 5 day weekend.
The food and service were so fabulous. I had a lovely evening and meal. Thank you!!
Lovely spot, interesting history, delicious food and good service. Can’t go wrong.
Excellent service by Jordan. Historic tavern and food was very good and well displayed. First class restaurant. All downtown restaurants are not cheap understandably but our evening was worth it.
We were expecting the 5 diamond experience I read about online but it was way more casual than we anticipated in the dining room BUT food was delicious and didn’t disappoint!
Went for my boyfriend’s 21st birthday, and it was the best food ever. Our waiter was amazing, and the restaurant itself is just super cool!
Visiting on spring break
We had a lovely rainy night at McCrady's. Our server was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the dishes. She gave great advice. They made a Beet salad that my carnivorous self couldn't stop eating. Our desserts were wonderful. Entrees excellent.
Every bite was excellent. Perfect execution and the service was impeccable.
Nice setting with great food and service
It was just ok...the service and ambience were very good our waiter was great. Food was good not great, and a somewhat limited menu
McCrady's Tavern was recommended to us by my daughter, who lives in Charleston. The food was absolutely delicious and our waiter couldn't have been more accommodating. The setting was soothing and elegant. We all had a lovely evening.
The steak tartare was unique and fabulous! My cuttlefish was prepared with an unusual touch using pureed and roasted vegetables. Delicious!! My husband's filet was succulent and cooked to perfection. Our experience exceeded our expectations!
I had the tilefish which was excellent. I also got the broccolini which was panfried with bacon accent and sprinkled with fried onions. It was really good. The service was outstanding - my server was Jordan. I would definitely recommend this place. It's a mix of casual and casually dressy.
Not so hidden gem. Service is outstanding. Food simply delicious. There are not enough adjectives to describe how much I love this place. I feel like it’s my special hideaway.
We walked in and it just felt good. Service AND staff were fantastic to us. Great cocktails, followed by a great meal. We ate octopus and pickled shrimp for apps. I live along the gulf coast and had never eaten or heard of pickled shrimp. Fabulous. The main courses were equally good. Portion sizes perfect - not too big but definitely enough. My husband had the duck and I had their fish of the evening the Tile Fish. Great flavors all around. Next visit to Charleston we will be back.
Great meal and service. Be prepared for a noisy dinner though.
Small portions..fish was flat and small. Waiter was very pleasant. I would go elsewhere where you get what you pay for...
We so enjoyed our dinner! The food was delicious, our server was excellent, and the place was charming. As a visitor to Charleston I always find parking to be an issue- had to park in a parking deck. It wasn’t too far of a walk, but it wasn’t free. I would still recommend this place to anyone!
Overall a nice experience. One question, though, what prevented the kitchen from splitting the oyster appetizer 3 and 3? Doesn’t make much sense. Same preparation, just market price accordingly.
The food was disappointing.
I had the tilefish - thought it was overcooked and tough.
Presented with cauliflower - not much color on the plan
The setting and ambiance are very conducive to a quiet dinner for two. The food was excellent, but the choices were limited.
Great seating, being able to carry on a conversation during dinner in a full restaurant was a a near first for us. Outstanding service by the host and wait staff was most appreciated. The menu was wonderful and the food well prepared. The lack of parking and signage to the venue distracts from and otherwise great evening.
Very good food. Just missing a green salad appetizer
If you're looking for early American charm, McCrady's Tavern is for you. The food is great. The bar is awesome. The house cocktails are very good. Beca is an awesome waiter and we ask for her always. All the brick gives it the feeling of the Inn that it was.
A great trip back. It was the first time in years that we went back to an old favorite. We weren’t disappointed, we loved every aspect of this Charleston Locals favorite that gave us warm feelings and great food. Truly one of Charleston’s beats!!!
An excellent dinner as always!
The food was good but not outstanding. The setting is amazing and the service was attentive but not overwhelming.
