This was one of our favorite restaurants up to a few months ago. The menu has changed and it does not have the value or diversity of the previous one. It is very disappointing. Parts of our meal (baked potato, pasta) arrived lukewarm. This had never happened before. The new menu does not include salad or soup with full entrees, nor are two sides offered, and all menu prices have seemed to significantly increased.

Is McCool's under new (worse) management? If their aim is to chase away loyal patrons, they have succeeded!

We went here with friends for the first time for dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and the portions were big. I would recommend the Main St Scampi & the Bruschetta Chicken. They were excellent. They also have some Gluten free options on the menu. One person in our party has to follow a GF diet and order the GF pasta and said it was really good. We would definitely recommend this place.

I have been there many times but was less than satisfied this time. Our server was great and the food was only average. I don't like the new menu at all. It was copied on paper that looked like the ink was running out on the copier. I didn't like the set up of the menu or the lack of choices that were there previously. I didn't like that I was given no choice of sides with my entree - rice and the veg of the day and that was it. I wasn't able to use a coupon on a Friday night that I was previously able to use. Overall, I was disappointed and not sure that I will return anytime soon.

We celebrated our friends special birthday lunch and our server made every part of our luncheon so special and gave us the time to talk for hours and help to make us so comfortable. Just a great time. Would highly recommend McCoole's!

Great building with a lot of character. What disappointed me was I had ordered one I their own brews and noticed I was waiting a while. About 10 minutes later the waiter caught site I was still waiting (as he was probably busy) and when he went to retrieve my beer, they needed a new keg. Then I waited even longer...eventually I ordered a bottled beer.
Food presentation was really good. I ordered Spinach & Bruchetta but when I tasted the pasta, it was well over cooked...way too soft. Too bad because I was really looking forward to it.
It may have just been the night I selected but it was a bit disappointing. I may give another shot while on business in the future but there are other options out there. I'll look around a bit first.

I used to love this place. But since they got the new menu the food is different. The cheesecake especially was always a highlight, but this time it was so small and lacked flavor. The previous homemade cheesecake was by far better!!

Over paid for quality of food served, soup of the day as and everyday soup were even the same. The steak my son ordered was fatty and thin - not near worth what we paid for. My husbands dinner was not exactly what was described, he got seafood combo expecting a crab cake but got crab stuffing instead.

Great food--I got the salmon which is always a good choice. My husband got the steak which he said was the best he has had in a long time.

Three of us had dinner at McCoole's on a Saturday evening. Soups were terrific (beef barley and Manhattan clam chowder). We also shared fried mozzarella - yummy. This was not our first time at McCoole's. We are from Maryland and were visiting family in the area. We decided on McCoole's because we enjoyed their meatloaf on a previous occasion. It was "lick-the-plate" good. Well, they've changed the menu and now feature more game. On this visit, one of us had beef tenderloin (it was a generous portion, cooked exactly the way she likes it), and the other two had fish and chips. Fish and chips were OK...not the best we've ever had, but good. Only one had dessert...a peanut butter bomb. She raved over it. There is an extensive menu with a wide range of prices to please everyone. We'll be back, but we sure wish they still had meat loaf on the menu.

We requested a table along the wall and the gave us a great table in the corner. We had a delicious meal and shared a yummy dessert. Waitress was very attentive and saw to my husband's dietary restrictions. The filet with crab was the best.

I booked a table for 4 people at 4:30pm so my Husband and In-Laws could celebrate Valentine's Day! We sat next to the fireplace like I had requested. The alcoholic drinks were good. The food was great, we ordered the crab cakes, encrusted Red Snapper and Eggplant Parm. Everyone was satisfied. Our Waitress was very friendly, prompt and helpful with all our questions. We would definitely come back!

I like the look of the place inside. I got the shrimp/crab scampi....it would be truer if they didn't even mention the crab as it was a few scant pieces on one side of the dish that all I saw was the dark crabmeat; not lump (it doesn't saw lump) but just a few shreds of claw meat. Not impressed. I would have rather it not even say crab. This is my only complaint.

Overall it was a pleasant experience. It was very cold outside and a bit chilly in the dining area. Other than that the atmosphere, service, and food was very good and reasonably priced.

Great atmosphere - Great Food - Excellent Service. You must visit!

Our first experience was a Saturday night. Very energetic, the food was awesome and ambiance was enjoyable!! The piano player was fun to listen to and she got the customers involved. This last time was a weeknight and much quieter. But, very enjoyable. And once again, the food was phenomenal. We will be back again.

I have family in Quakertown and of the uncountable times I've been there, had never been into McCools. We stopped toc celebrate a victorius win by the Quakertown HS football team about a year ago. Ever since, I wanted to venture back with friends to enjoy the quaint yet upbeat atmosphere. I can honestly say I've never been disappointed with the service, food, spirits and everyone has always been more than gracious to make sure our experiences are positive. I have a favorite and special place but if I shared, the table would always be reserved! Enjoy as much as we have.

Quaint historic tavern restaurant with excellent food, wine and a good brew list. The atmosphere is warm and condusive for conversation. The menu is reasonably priced. A slam dunk favorite of mine.

The end result that the food was delicious and the extremely comfortable atmosphere just barely overcomes the less than attentive service and the horrible 35-minute delay beyond our reservation time.

We will return but similar ratings may occur if McCooles doesn't improve their professionalism in regards to customer service.

I don't think they had our reservation--looked confused and checked many places. After a wait it seemed like they found it. They cleared off a serving table for us. Chairs not comfortable. Very cold night and cold drafts engulfed us every time the door was opened, and it opened a lot. My wife complained constantly about freezing. One music show was fair to bad. He butchered a Neil Young song so bad there should have been a lawsuit. I had some type of beef/steak--cant remember the name of dish. It was edible but no flavor. I was disappointed . My wife I believe had the scallops, she like it and would return when it is not cold out. I think I will go with a burger if we go back.

We had a large group so we made reservations and everything was perfect. The bread pudding is great but should be shared.

Food was excellent service was good heart seat was in front of the two piece combo so was quite loud but I will go back hopefully get a seat in the back was a little quieter a lot of large parties that night

All entrees were over cooked and dry. Sever was great fun and frurndly'

Table next to the door---needed to defrost most of the meal. Took ten minutes for a server to find us. After that, she was excellent. Food was solid, cocktails outstanding. "Hostesses" are young and appear to be less than interested in doing their jobs. Not the faces I'd want first greeting my guests.

I am a history fanatic, so dining in a 1700's crossroads inn alone gets the Red Lion to 4 stars in my book. Sorry I reserve 5 star ratings for the truly elite; such as the circular dining room at the Hershey Hotel, Del Frisco's NYC or Fiorella Jack Stack's BBQ in Kansas City.... You get the point. In any event there is a big gap between a 4 and a 5, but when you combine the fun of just seeing the Red Lion Inn's exterior and interior along with some very well prepared food the Red Lion is a solid 4!

I had the pan seared salmon, perfectly prepared, and others at our table had prime rib, a nice serving and spot on, the crab cakes a very good serving size and exceptional in flavor. Scallops were nice and to our suprize a nicely prepared rack of ribs, and I am not one to offer that easily, since as I mentioned before Jack Stacks in KC. I make it a mission when traveling to visit the best listed BBQ's in a particular city, whether its Raliegh NC, Indy, or Grumpies in North Whithall PA, the ribs at the Red Lion were suprisingly good.

So without reservation, make a reservation if you plan on dining on a Friday or Saturday night. You will need to call ahead to avoid the wait.

We had a party of 10and the good came out quick. The waitress was awesome. We had a birthday in our party so we brought a cake, the waitress took it in the back and after dinner the staff brought it out and sang for the birthday girl. The food was perfect and came out pretty fast. We will be back.

We had a group of 7 have dinner at McCoole's. I was pleasantly surprised. The dining areas looked crowded and noisy when we arrived, but our table was in a quiet corner. We started with drinks and found they had a great variety of beers, including some made next door. They also had nicely priced wines by the bottle. Four of my guests ordered the trout stuffed with crab and wrapped with bacon. They found it very rich, but loved it. Another guest had the chicken breasts; they were perfected grilled. I had the creole pot pasta. It was among the best pasta dishes I've ever had, full of large scallops, shrimp and pieces of andouille sausage. Final guest had ahi tuna that was fresh tasting and properly prepared. Our service was excellent in spite of how busy the place was. All in all a great find with excellent food and service at excellent prices.

We've been to McCoole's a number of times over the years, and the food is always great. Service is typically fine, but not on this occasion. This is the only time we've booked for a large party (table of 9), and the tip was figured into the bill. Our waitress obvious new she'd get 20% regardless of her effort and did less the minimum. We had to ask a couple times for a glass of water for my elderly aunt. Empty plates, bowls, glasses were not removed from the table until there was no room to sit anything else down. After serving our meal, she didn't come back to check on our satisfaction or our need for anything else. Very disappointing and I will not bring a large party to McCoole's again. Unfortunate as your food is always been good and the atmosphere is unique.

Love their homemade cheesecake specials. Also, very good about making sure bacon is crispy when asked for it to be done that way!!

We eat there a lot. One of my favorites is the pasta pot. It's a little spicy but delicious. My son came up from Florida and joined us there. His favorites is the pasta pot also. My wife and daughter had a chicken meal which was really good. Best yet is that you can make a reservation with Open Table.

McCooles would probably be our favorite place for a drink/sandwich. It is reasonable in terms of price, has great food, and usually has some music going on. The decor is great, and the staff are quite nice.
There is one problem, however, and it is such that it will mean we are probably not going back for awhile. The place is FREEZING! Their front door opens directly into their seating area, especially for the tables for two. When the door opens, which it does every couple minutes, a frigid wind just blasts the first 1/2 dozen tables. When we were there the other night, each couple seated at these tables was wearing their winter coats...to eat!
It makes you want to rush your meal just to get out and warm up, which is a real shame for such a neat place. BY the way this has happened each time we have gone during the colder months, of course it was not an issue during the summer. Why they don't put in a vestabule (sic?) is beyond me...just having a second door would solve it easy.
So, if you go, I would ask for a table as far removed from the front door as possible.

Enjoyed the food as well as the setting and service. However, it was extremely drafty where we sat. We ended up wearing our coats throughout the evening. We did ask to be moved, but apparently most of the available tables were going to be drafty, as well.

We enjoyed our meal but the staff needs to step up their game.

First time at McCoole's for my guest........he was very impressed wtih ambiance and will be back.

Food and atmosphere were great. Waited over an hour for a seven o'clock reservation.

We were celebrating our anniversary and love McCooles.

We made a reservation here and were seated right away. At the beginning our server was great, friendly and attentive. It was our first and last time trying mcooles. After we ordered, our appetizers took 45 minutes to come out. We had seen our waitress attending other tables that were sat after us and didn't even check on us or refill our water that another server had brought to us. Our food took another 45 minutes to come out despite tasting delicious. We felt our server completely neglected us as we did not see her again until 15 minutes after we finished our meal. She quickly asked for coffee or desert and brought our check. She did not thank us or apologize for the wait.

We have met friends at McCoole's several times in the past and have always been very happy with the service and the food. Unfortunately, Saturday evening's experience was disappointing. Evidently diners at several tables prior to our 6:30 pm reservation time chose to linger at their table after finishing their meals causing a backup in the main entry area, which is quite small. We, along with at least two other groups who had 6:30 reservations, were left to wait in this small space. After 30 minutes, we were offered a table in the bar area; but declined since they are the higher bar tables. We were finally seated after 40 minutes, again with just an apology. Perhaps a complimentary drink/appetizer would have been in order!

We went to McCoole's for a birthday dinner. 7 of us attended. Our service was fabulous and the in-house beer delicious. We were not rushed at all. Love that they added the 20% tip right into the bill. It made paying with a group much easier.

A casual atmosphere in a historic building. Menu pricing is right with the national chains on Rt. 309 but with a nicer twist. We'll have to try it again when the theatre is open and make it a complete evening.
