McCoole's Red Lion Inn Ratings and Reviews
I would have given a better review, if we would not have been waiting for our table for 1 and 1/2 hrs. We had a reservation at 7:00 in the evening and did not get seated until 8:30! Thank goodness we were with good friends, our children are older and we eventually found a seat at the bar! I made reservations on-line and wondering if this system does not work for your establishment. Somewhat frustrating to wait, as we were very hungry; and since it was a work week, we needed to work the next day! Our friends traveled a distance to meet us their and it made it a long night for all! Also, our first time at the restaurant, therefore, it was not a good first impression. But our waiter was excellent and the food plentiful.
McCoole's is such a great find. The atmosphere was just amazing. They do a wonderful job with the holiday decorations. The place has the feel of a historic Inn with top notch food. We will for sure come back again. Save room for dessert and try the chocolate martini. My crab cake was awesome.
We enjoyed our experience. Sometime a little loud in the dinning area. We prefer the Martini corner across from piano for quietness. We did not like our hot chocolate beverage. Tasted like cheap watered down mix. For the price and atmosphere, should be rich and creamy with whipped cream and maybe a sprinkle of nutmeg on top. Served hot. Otherwise we liked food and service.
reception people friendly, patient and cute
red headed server guy efficient, friendly, personable and spot on with all orders, requests etc..
the crew who brought out the food, especially miss irish-english-scot were a pleasant trio with a wonderful sense of humor. food was very good...
After a great first dining experience, I raved about McCoole's to friends and we decided to go there for a small college reunion dinner. I made reservations online to ensure we'd get a table. However, when we arrived, the table we were giving was in the bar, which was very noisy and crowded. When I asked if it was possible to be seated in the dining room, we were told there would be a 45-minute wait -- just what we hoped to avoid by making reservations well in advance. We had to yell our conversation all evening. Our waitress was good, but very harried and we had to wait to receive our drinks and refills on water, etc. I still love McCoole's, but now I know I need to specify "dining room" when I hope to have quiet conversation with friends
Went with a group of friends for dinner - the food was very good and the wait-staff very nice, but the service was slow. There were a couple of other groups which may have slowed things down, and it was Saturday night, but there were no apologies from the wait-staff for the wait. I'll go back again, but maybe at a less popular time.
We have been to McCoole's several times and the food is fantastic. The chef is always coming up with new great dishes. The noise is a bit high on the weekends but the service and food are worth it. Don't go without reservations on the weekend or you won't get in.
Historic building that has stone walls, eloquent wood, metal ceiling and tiled floor in some areas that makes for an enjoyable and unique dining experience. Service was very good on a slow, early Sunday evening. Reasonably priced. Overall the food was good. Crab cakes were very good, prime rib looked good but didn't have much taste. Dessert's were very good. A piano player between the bar and dining area provided background music that could be heard but didn't interfere with our conversation.
This is our second visit to McCools and had an excellent experience. We took my elderly parents for an early dinner and from the front door through the entire evening the service is excellent, food was well prepared and ....the piano player hadded a very special dimension to making our evening special. Thanks for your attention to service excellance.
This is one of the few places where it is hard to decide what I want. My choices at most restaurants are between two or three dishes; the entire menu looks yummy at McCoole's. I've had something different every time I've gone and not been disappointed once! Definitely one of my local favorites.
2nd time here, this time for a birthday. Food is amazing, lunch or dinner, and the service is great. Always have delicious regular and special dishes and the bar menu is also inexpensive and done right. Tried the Lobster bisque with my meal... and for an extra 2 bucks it was AMAZING! Meat is cooked to perfection and sides are delicious and plentiful. The historic part of visit is neat too, and you can also plan a trip to the theater next door. Great outside seating available in the heart of Quakertown. Highly recommended, truly a "fine dining experience on a working man's budget."
We were very pleased with our dinner experience. We had a Birthday gift certificate to use from McCooles and this was our first time. The choices were great and the food preparation was nicely done. Rwo of our party had the cedar plank salmon and it was excellent.
