McAdoo's Ratings and Reviews
I had been to McAdoo’s one time before and loved the food and the uniqueness of the decor. For that reason I picked it for our first anniversary celebration. The food was still good but the service really suffered. My hisband’s food was not hot and nothing was even mentioned about it being our anniversary even though I put it on the reservation and we heard someone mention it to a table beside us. The topper was when the waiter spilled a half full drink on my daughter and didn’t even get her another one or in any way apologize. When you’re paying a premium for a specialty drink, something should have been compensated for it.
I will go back probably because I do like the food and the ambiance but I hope the service is better next time.
McAdoo’s continues to serve reliable, well prepared seafood mostly for the locals in New Braunfels weary of the recent invasion of chain fare on I-35. Clever atmosphere inside original New Braunfels post office. Recent visit was fine except for incinerated garlic bread that accompanied the seafood fondue. Once pointed out and quickly replaced, all was well!
30-Sec Review: While McAdoo's is classy on all levels, the long wait for food can turn a into a 2 hour dinner. Food is great, drinks are great, oysters are great. Service is better than most, the wait is the only reason I'd consider elsewhere.
Oysters - All were delicious. Literally, we had 4 varieties. No complaints.
Seabass - Tender, moist, superb. Rice was slightly sweet but no issue at all. Overall, yum.
Halibut - No complaints from my tablemates. Flash fried spinach is bomb!
Parmesan Trout - Well cooked, crispy and not dry. Good flavor, lemon dijon sauce was not overly caper-flavored, which I appreciated. Flash fried spinach!!
Mahi-mahi New Orleans - Deliciously grilled, this embodied a yum creole flavor.
As I said, the food was great. But we did wait nearly 1 hour for entrees for our table of 8. It was a big table but certainly 1 hour on a Sunday night was much.
This is a NICE restaurant in a old post office beautifully restored. We all ate seafood and our meals were great.
This was a dinner for six celebrating our 55th anniversary and was disappointed the restaurant didn't recognize that by offering something small.
Overall it was a pleasant evening
We celebrated Christmas dinner with family and we were promptly seated at our reservation time. We had very good service and the waitress even volunteered to take our photograph. Our appetizers were delicious and everyone was completely happy with the meal they ordered. I strongly recommend this place for an excellent seafood entree. Price was very reasonable. We will definitely return for lunch or dinner.
Great experience; however, this was the second time in the past few months where we made our McAdoo’s reservation thru OpenTable but the restaurant did not have a record of it. Fortunately, it was during an off period so McAdoo’s was able to accommodate our party.
Absolutely fantastic as always, from the seating service through to the desert presentation. Prompt, courteous professional wait staff. Excellent authentic Cajun cooking. Nostalgic, interesting atmosphere and location makes you feel welcome to a wonderful dining experience. Upbeat but not snobbish.
Everything was great. John Mark and Eric were awesome. If you go for brunch I recommend the Bloody Mary bar. Oysters were a great start, crab cakes Benedict also great, and my husband raved about the chicken and waffles especially the waffles. We will be back.
The restaurant was converted from an old Post Office and has some of the original furnishings displayed (tastefully) within the restaurant. However, the new construction far exceeds the original building and has a great ambiance. Our food was delivered quickly and was of excellent quality. Our server was great and we plan to request her for our next visit. Overall, a great dining experience and value.
This place was fantastic. Me and my wife went for our anniversary/ date night while visiting New braunfels and were blown away. The food was amazing . The gumbo, red fish and mahi mahi is what we got. The sauces on the fish with crawfish and crab mixed in were amazing, definitely was one of the best gumbos I have had and even down to the bacon crumbles in the wedge salad was really great. Highly recommend this place if your in the area very busy so MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!!!
Was very happy how management really worked hard to make sure our dining experience was great. Our server was exceptional. The only thing they should include is a description of their additions. Their grilled shrimp were Cajun spiced which wasn't known prior to ordering.
