MAYUR is an Authentic Fine Northern Indian Restaurant. Serving the community since 1984. ( 33 years) The Chef Mr. Singh has been cooking for Anju, the owner long before the inception of MAYUR at her home in India since 1970.

We had pretty much written off this restaurant due to several sub par dining experiences about a year ago , but decided to give it one last shot. It was worth it, they are redeemed. The food was excellent ( fish curry, chicken biryani, cooked perfectly. The service is always a little weak and we accept that. A homeless guy actually walked in off the street, stood inside and complained about the place (he was there for maybe 5 minutes) and no wait staff even looked up to see or acknowledge, oh well. Seems they do a very good take out business and that's probably the way to go here.
1) the dinnerware—Royal Doulton, contains lead, a known neurotoxin which causes developmental disorders and lower IQ. The company who manufactures the dinnerware was sued by the state of California for violating its Propostion 65 rules on lead. Look it up. Yet, this restaurant continues to serve us on poison trays. We ended up taking the food home rather than eating in the restaurant.
2) dirty silverware—my knife had brown stuff crusted on it.
3) food- chicken tikka was bland and the tandoori chicken tasted like lighter fluid.
4) service- the waiter kept interjecting himself, making suggestions even when we didn’t ask for his opinion. I specifically asked for additional rice and he said it wasn’t necessary. I insisted and he maintained that it was too much. Lo and behold, when we get home with the food, the rice isn’t enough. Despite this transgression, I still left a nice tip.
I can't say enough about Mayur. It is one of our favorite local restaurants and certainly our favorite Indian restaurant in OC. The food is extremely good, the menu is extensive and the service great. Though the prices may be a little higher, the quality of the food is worth every penny.
I've been to Mayur about 4 times now and each time the food has been outstanding. It's a little pricey but worth it if you compare it to some other Indian restaurants. All of the food was perfectly cooked and prepared. We ordered lamb curry, chicken tikka masala, mushroom gobi a spinach and lentil dish, and garlic naan. As a birthday surprise they brought me a delicious dessert of which I can't recall the name but it was perfect - not too sweet and not too heavy. Every thing was so delicious! Our waiter was a young Indian gentleman (I forget his name ) that was so patient and friendly with our slow ordering group. We also lingered and did not feel rushed out of there even on a Friday night. The service was great and the owner(?) or manager also came to the table to check on us. Mayur is a special occasion restaurant for me but I would love to frequent it more often! They also offer great lunch specials. I highly recommend Mayur!
We have found a new hidden treasure in Corona del Mar. An authentic and delectable treat for anyone who loves Indian Cuisine.
Every dish we had was delicious and the service was attentive and impeccable!

I love Indian food and this was hands down the best I've had in California. The presentation, the food and service were all exceptional. I even had them prepare several dishes to take home for the next day. I will definitely return here again and again. If you like authentic Indian food, then put this one on your bucket list.
We have been going there for many years, but this time was especially wonderful--great service, fabulous food as always. In addition, the aesthetics of the restaurant have greatly improved--even the dishes the food is served in are much better than before. Finally, if you like a quiet experience, go on Monday evening--the earlier the better. We had the place all to ourselves for the first hour of our dinner.
We dined at Mayur during N.B. restaurant week for the first time. It was a great way to sample a variety of their featured dishes, and we loved every bite! The flavors were amazing in their Mulligatawny chicken soup! We also enjoyed the tandoor Chilean Seabass and lamb chops. Their home-made mango sorbet capped off a delicious dining experience. The staff was friendly, attentive and we look forward to going back soon. We also met the owner, Anju Kapoor, and she was gracious and shared a bit of the restaurant's history with us. Thank you for a memorable birthday dinner!
The restaurant seemed obviously unhappy that we made a reservation for one hour before closing time... upon entering, the host asked us if we were "picking up," and seemed less-than-thrilled when we said we were eating in. As they were loudly washing dishes and after the music in the dining room turned off during our meal, I asked the server to confirm that they closed at 10:00 PM (it was about 9:20 at this point), and he said "Yes... but it depends when it's slow." The food quality was good, but the price is very high (Over $70 base price before tip for two people, with no alcoholic beverages) and it may not have been worth the cost.
We were so very disappointed. This was our first visit to Mayur after about 6 years. We found the food to be Americanized, with little to no flavor. . The Chicken Tikka Masala was flavorless and the terrific server couldn't understand why didn't want to take the leftovers. Our party of 4 ordered 2 chicken Tikka, One chicken curry (bland, blah and seriously had to ask if we were at an Indian restaurant) and one Lamb dish that was the only decent dish of the evening, similar to a stew. At least it had some flavor to it. I am making an assumption that they make Indian food for "white" people, meaning they don't cook authentically. They may cook differently if you are actually Indian (I had received positive reviews from some Indian friends), but this is not the place I would go for Indian. And we were so disappointed. We still had a nice evening. Brought our own wine for a $20 corkage, but spent the meal talking about the tasteless food. And we LOVE Indian food .
Been coming here for 20 years . . . always good. This is by far the best Indian food in Southern California and we've tried a lot. Hosted by a dear lady from India that spares no expense in providing the ambiance, great food and service that keeps everyone coming back.
