The food is very good. Service was professional and attentive. Nice evening overall for our anniversary and a leisurely pace. No rushing or undue interruptions.
We each had a cocktail. Mine was a little strong but I'm a light weight. My wife's sangria was really refreshing. Wife and I split the delicious mushroom toast, a super rich appetizer that probably should carry a warning for the arterially challenged. Luckily, I am not.
I had the pan roasted Scottish salmon special which was excellent. It came with a carmelized carrot puree and some stir fried squash. My wife had the summer spaghet, which came with smoked eggplant that somewhat overpowered the dish. Otherwise, it was yummy, too.
We had fantastic decaf with the prickly pear white chocolate cake dessert. Again, very rich.
Overall, Maynards Kitchen is a pretty good option for a special dinner for a couple or a small group. Avoid bringing the kids. They wouldn't appreciate it.
Great place and food
I was shocked electrically having my elbow on the metal vent and touching the spike end of the lantern. My girlfriend tried it and it did the same to her.
It had been quite a while since I had been to Maynard's. We had oysters, that were very fresh. Split a beet salad, which was not what we had expected, but delicious. And then had the fish, which happened to be Arctic Char, served over veggies. Everything was great. Will have to return sooner than later.
Always delicious food at this delightful spot.
I found this restaurant on Open Table and thought we would give it a try. We ate outside which was in an area near the railroad tracks. The food was really good and the flavors were amazing. We will definitely be going back.
Maynards is always outstanding. Our favorite special restaurant in all of Tucson. Try the summer spaghetti with sausage. One of the best dishes I have ever had and I worked (and ate) in NYC before moving to Tucson 2 years ago. Just the best!
We've been there many times and keep coming back. Food and ambiance are wonderful. It's a real Tucson gem.
Went for Sunday Brunch. Beautiful garden, local grown food. Excellent coffee and the omelet/potatoes and fruit was delicious and perfectly made. Large outside dining area and descent amount of inside seating (for a downtown establishment) in a clean dining room. Huge wine selection! Right next to the under ground garage and only cost $2.00 on the weekend. We will be returning!
We've stayed away from Maynards because the last few experiences were terrible. But since it's been about a year since we've been there, we thought we would try it again. So happy we took the chance. The hostess was so sweet to show us to the perfect table by the window and the perfect server, Kendra. Our friends wee equally pleased with everything. We started off with steak tartare and beet salads. The men had the pork chop and the ladies had the grouper special. All the food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Kendra opened a pinot noir and immediately said the cork was a little off and since my girlfriend is a wine distributor, she concurred. Kendra brought us another one which was perfect. We've already made another reservation for family coming into town in a few weeks.
We always enjoy Maynards, our go to place great meal.
In our opinion, one of Tucson's top restaurants. Love the atmosphere next to the train station. Their own vegetable and herb garden is impressive. Very efficient and friendly staff. The dinner was excellent!
they always do a fantastic job with the food. Would have loved a refill on the coffee but the waiter disappeared
Excellent as always
Eddie the best bartender in Tucson
Fish is outstanding
Too noisy inside too warm outside. NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed a lovely Mother's Day Brunch. I loved the Ahi Tuna while my husband enjoyed the peppery, sweet corn soup. He really enjoyed the Milanese chicken while I had the eggs benedict as a main course. Then desserts - loved the Black Forest Torte while I polished off the berry - rhubarb cake. Overall, a lovely meal was had by both of us.
Everyone I dealt with was terrific. Our reservation date & party size changed several times. Staff was exceptional in confirming/reconfirming the both. It was an especially busy weekend due to the university graduation, but everyone at Maynards made it look easy.
Thank you Maynards.
Ed the bartender is phenomenal. Best Manhattan ever.
Great food, great patio, great jazz band and trains!
Maynard's has become our favorite Tucson restaurant. The food, outstanding service, atmosphere, as well as the chef's garden and historic downtown location add up to a very lovely evening. (Good choice of wines by the glass too.)
When we arrived there was a strange smell in the whole restaurant, something between the train diesel smell and burnt food. However, our server was fantastic and the food was ok.
Good oysters, entree ok, poor desert. My wife liked her stuffed trout, my veal chop was just ok. I’ve had better in steak / chop houses.
Went there on a Monday, not knowing that Monday's are Meet at Maynard's night. We had requested the patio because we were meeting a couple who was camping in Madera Canyon and they were bringing a small dog. When we arrived, the patio was full and really loud. Live music, people talking with microphones (endlessly), and a lot of traffic. There was a special benefit for disabled dogs that night so our guest's pooch was not alone by a longshot. Once the Meet and Greet was over, people left and things settled down and we had a really nice dinner. The food was excellent. I had the pan roasted duck; my wife had the AZ Red risotto (best risotto I've ever tasted and I got the leftovers). The desserts were the best we've had in Tucson. So my advice is that if you go on a Monday night, leave the dog at home and eat inside. Your eardrums will thank you.
The meal was outstanding from the starter to the post-meal coffee. The flavors were well-balanced on my palate and the presentation was beautiful. The SONORAN MUSHROOM TOAST was phenomenal, as was the ROASTED BEET SALAD. The nightly fish special of halibut on roasted cauliflower with pistachio cream was a delight. I cannot say enough about the quality of the meal and service. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and the time spent at Maynards. You won't be disappointed!
We drove down for Phoenix for a show at the Fox Theater down the street. Maynard's enjoys a well deserved positive social media reputation. The mushroom toast starter was ample with fresh, flavorful ingredients but not too heavy. The scallop special was generous with 4 large, but tender scallops and the presentation looked like artwork. My pasta dish was packed with many well-seasoned ingredients and again with a lightness that didn't weigh me down for the show. We'll be back next time we're in town!
Good food in a nice environment but the bar area was a bit too noisy. Server was excellent and knowledgeable about the menu. Eating outdoors was appealing but we stayed inside as we had been out all day on the golf course. Restaurant location is right in downtown Tucson which creates a parking problem but overall this was a very good experience.
This has turned out to be our favorite “go to” restaurant ... special occasion or not. ALWAYS delicious, comfortable and high quality without the “attitude”. Great service as well!
We have been here many times, this is our favorite place to bring new people to eat. A wonderful piece of Tucson History. And the food and service is the best in town.
We are always impressed with the food and service, the wine list is great.
The staff was outstanding. Bar, managed by Annie, produced some classic cocktails! Took care of my gluten questions! Finding the 2006 burgundy was the cherry on top as far as the service is concerned
Great food, service and atmosphere. We’ve dined at Maynard’s several times in the past when we visit Tucson, and are never disappointed. The only draw back is sometimes it is difficult to find a parking spot nearby. But it’s worth the effort!
We were very disappointed with our dinner at Maynards. While the ambiance and service were very nice, the food was a real letdown with the exception of the delicious bread. My husband ordered the bouillabaisse and said it had no flavor and the rouille was not right - it was a pretty sloppy bouillabaisse. I had the lamb shank which was not good as it lacked flavor and taste. It tasted like a dish cooked a while ago and reheated a few times. It was not even served hot. Also, in my opinion the chimmichurri sauce was an overkill, and the potatoes tartiflette were hard and dry. We were there on a Monday night and wondered if the chef had taken the night off. Simply put, the food did not taste freshly prepared and lacked flavor and taste. Desserts were mediocre. Maynards should do better.
One of the best restaurants in the world. Come here all the time. Only down side was they don’t play Mo-town and old school anymore.
Excellent meal and terrific service. Extensive cocktail menu. Enjoyed entire experience and highly recommend.
Very nice menu. Was my second time there and took a friend who was there for the first time.
Service was great...nice waiter from NJ as am I.
Entrees were top rate. I’d skip foie gras as the starter next time.
great food, friendly staff. had the chief platter, duck, chicken and all were amazing.
Fun, quiet (except for the occasional train) delicious. Beautiful interior. Wonderful mix of flavors across the menu. Chef thinks outside the box and pulls it off. I believe it is a must for visitors and locals.
We had a very negative experience. Our table on the patio was nice, and we enjoyed our cocktails, but after we received our cocktails the service was terrible. After being there for an hour and a quarter, we still had no food, and no one even came to check on us or apologize for the delay. Finally my husband went to find out what was going on and someone told him, "I'll check into it ." A few minutes later someone in a suit and tie (the manager?) came by with a very defensive attitude and said, "Well, we've had two large parties come in and we're doing the best we can." No apology whatsoever. No offer of new drinks, more bread, some snacks - nothing. When we finally got our food my husband's veal chop was cold. In the end they comped our drinks, but we will not be going back. When a restaurant is having an off night, management should be smart enough to know that an apology and an offer of extra drinks or snacks or something is what's called for, not hostility. We like Tucson, visit often, and might have recommended this place to many people! But definitely not after this experience.
Awesome restaurant! Great food and service.
