Maynards - Excelsior
Maynard’s is a place the locals can call home while still serving as a main tourist attraction of the Twin Cities Metro. We pride ourselves in a quality product at a fair price, but believe our consistent service and attention to detail (even amongst the big summertime crowds) sets us apart.

Food was amazing! People from all walks of life. Great place to have a very nice meal or just hang out in bathing suits and have drinks and apps.
Always a favorite! Wonderful wait person - again! A suggestion - I love your Poke - how about making chopsticks available...I brought my own, which got some laughs from other wait people and nearby diners! Also brought my own Ponzu sauce. Do you have a good brand of soy sauce yet?
Dinner is always fun and delicious at Maynard's. Love your variety of choices!
Never disappoints. Love the atmosphere, the price, the service, the location, and the food !
My wife and I had the Chipotle Salad. It was fine if a little bland. The salsa was very good, but we had to ask for and pay extra for chips which seemed weird given it was a Mexican dish. So the things they could have done to elevate this dish to 4 stars is grill fresh corn. We got frozen, but summer time here screams for fresh. Also a crema to dress the salad would be nice. The grilled chicken was good if a bit skimpy. Loved the roasted pepitas. We wanted to see the little town of Excelsior and now that we have I doubt we'll be back. But if you want to dine overlooking Lake Minnetonka, this is a good spot.
Our table server was absolutely outstanding, but we did not get his name. He was gracious to my 92 year-old mother and made marvelous recommendations on the menu. My mother has eaten there often, but my wife and I enjoyed our first visit immensely.
Thanks to the entire staff for the amazing meal, obvious coordination between kitchen and front of the house personnel and the overall pleasant, family feel.
We will definitely be back.
First time visit--Love it!!! We will make a point of returning.
Packed and super, super-noisy; ample parking; excellent food and service.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Maynard's and were not disappointed. The food was really good! It was a bit louder in the restaurant than I would have expected. We were fine with it though and were thrilled to find a spot post-dinner to have a drink on the outdoor patio. That was a nice treat.
It was my Birthday at first it was so noisy I wasn't sure I could enjoy my food. We stayed our waitress was Great! Food is always good. We will go back again I wish it was cozier? Hard to enjoy a conversation couldnt hear each other?
We came to celebrate a friend's birthday. Many things were not up to par for this restaurant. The bread was under baked and cold. We got another order and it was no better. Told the server. My fish was good - not sure if it was the Halibut that I ordered. The waffle fries were not warm. One of my friends had the Coconut Chicken and she did not think it was cooked well. My other friend had the baked Walleye. Very small piece. She was told that the fish is weighed and that's what she got. We also ordered the free Hot Fudge Sundae for the birthday person. The server acknowledged we would get Hot Fudge. Guess what - no hot fudge - we got chocolate sauce. The place was packed so not sure if they can't accommodate everyone and live up to their reputation for an upscale restaurant.
Casey gave excellent service. Great attention to detail and very friendly and welcoming. Food was good. I felt my fish fry tasted too greasy and I wanted to taste the $19.95 haddock and not the grease.
We arrived early in order to get a table on the patio. Very few tables were occupied when we arrived so it was disappointing to be shown to the very worst table which was in the sun and behind something that blocked our view of the lake. My dining companions remarked on it but decided not to ask for a different table.
All good BUT the Tonic used...yuck! Where did this come from
Food was good and service was great. We had an enjoyable evening for our anniversary!
go there often alway like it xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I love the food and the ambiance being right on the lake. Maynards is a year-round favorite!!
Dinner prior to the play at Old Log. Food and Service were good
Our booth was ready and waiting for on time! Food and service was outstanding! Good value for what you get. We will go again when we come back, we’re from Chicago.
Had hoped to catch a spot outside and take advantage of the lake ambiance. (Fortunately) we had a reservation before a production at the Old Log Theatre, and couldn't wait the hour predicted for a patio table.
I say, "Good for Maynards!" to have such a crowd on a nice summer night. I don't know if I've ever been to a restaurant that could handle so many people. We were seated at our reserved time, had great service, and the food was fitting for a casual, summer meal.
One of our favorite places to go.
The shrimp pasta was delicious! My wife really enjoyed the low carb portabella mushroom burger. Great food, service, and atmosphere!
My friend and I both ordered the chicken stir fry. We both thought it was tasteless! We added a little soy sauce to help it along. The portion size was generous!!
We celebrated my friend’s birthday and were pleased that we were given plenty of time to visit and eat slowly, really enjoying the time together (since we are both very busy with our families, we only get time together 1 - 3 times a year). Thank you for the gift of time and space to enjoy the day!
Service was excellent. Waitstaff was friendly, courteous, and professional. Food was excellent.
The parking there is just awful. I dropped my wife off at the door and it took me 20 minutes just to leave the parking lot to find on street parking nearby. The lot was so congested you could not get out of the lot. The nearest spot to park I could find was seven blocks away.. When I got to our table my wife thought I may have been in a accident because I was gone so long. Makes me second guess me coming back any time soon. The food is good but maybe not that good for the hassle.
Steak bites for app and ahi tuna poke bowl for meal.
Maynard's never disappoints!!!
We had reservations for an early dinner after a show. We were seated quickly and everyone was cheerful and very accommodating. Good beer selections and great variety on the menu! We all chose something different and everyone was pleased with their choice. I will definitely have the firecracker shrimp tacos again on our next visit!
Great place to eat once in a while. A great place for a date night, or just a friends get together.
We frequent Maynard's often. They have great outdoor seating and the food is consistently very good. We love the walleye sandwich and Franny's salad.
I have not thought about this until this summer when I broke my foot. Maynard's is very accommodating to those of us in wheel chairs and even has a ramp for the wheel chair to go down to the tables. The food is always excellent, especially the walleye. The wait staff is always pleasant and helpful and makes the dining experience pleasant. Also, the view of the lake is very nice.
Always enjoy Maynard's. Service was great- our server was very attentive.
We frequently go to Maynards, and typically have great servers. This one was nice, but not very attentive and didn’t really listen to how things were ordered. One meal had to be sent back, and the other was missing a key ingredient. The other two meals were great. The only other thing was this night was exceptionally loud and I do have it in my Open Table profile that my husband is partially deaf and requires a quieter area, but this was right next to the bar. Not exactly a good place for us.
Good food and great service. Very busy at 6pm but large efficient staff gave us great service.
As always...pretty darn good
The lake is the main attraction here. Food is overpriced, due to the location, I imagine.
Large group (15 people) age 7yrs to 78yrs. All well accommodated , excellent service and good food, as always!
Excellent service and food!
Saturday night super busy and haven't been there for awhile. Came for the walleye dinner, used to come with a salad, good size fillet and loaded baked potato. now comes with rice and a few veggies, sadly disapointed in the quality of food. fish was deep fried, thin and over cooked. no flavor at all. the tarter sauce was the only flavorful part of the meal. I would not order this again, but may come back sometime and try something else.
Everything was great. Fabulous summer day to have lunch and a walk around the town. We ate inside instead of the busy patio but regardless, it was still nice with a view.
Good food. Efficient service. Water views. Very large inside and out.
