Loved the food and drinks and our server Hillary! Thank you!
People were very nice. They were very concerned for our safety. The menu was interesting but in the end the food was nothing special.
All of our dishes were fantastic - delicious southern food but not too heavy. Will definitely come back!
I was really impressed with Maya’s customer service during a pandemic. Very clear directions when it comes to etiquette (wear a mask when interacting with staff!) and QR codes for menus. The food was top notch to boot—southern delicacies with some unique spins. Loved it!
Katie went above and beyond to make our special evening even more special! Wonderful service! Pimento cheese fritters are the best starter! The staff is just wonderful! Can’t wait for our next date night at Maya!
The food at Maya is excellent. Fresh offerings fixed in healthy and delicious manner. Even with the limits imposed by COVID-19, the menu had a wide variety of choices. Our group of 4 had hors d’oeuvres, entrees, and wine. All different and all wonderful. Also, quite plentiful.
The outdoor seating area and procedures implemented to adhere to current state guidelines for restaurants was well done. We felt safe as well as comfortable eating there. This was not our first visit. We will definitely go again when we visit the area.
We had a very delicious and amazing, socially distanced, meal tonight for our anniversary. They have great protocols in place to make you feel safe during this time that we are in, and the food and service were excellent as usual. Make sure to get the fried green tomatoes, and definitely save room for the peanut butter fluff pie!
While visiting Charlottesville for a few nights we picked Maya for a Southern inspired meal. Reservations are required for outdoor patio dining during Covid. Bring your phone to scan the QR code to view their menu to support contactless interaction. Tables were distanced appropriately, service was reasonably timely and friendly. They have a decent cocktail menu, drinks lean towards gin and vodka but they have a full bar and can make the cocktail of your preference. The highlight of the dinner was both the ribs and trout; they were very well prepared. There is a nice selection of sides, the collard greens and cheddar biscuits were quite good. For dessert, we enjoyed the key lime pie.
The best food!! They did a great job enforcing COVID-19 rules and regulations.
Many venues are having a hard time accommodating with the virus. We felt Maya did an outstanding job to make sure everyone felt safe and the service did not suffer at all from the new processes. Food was fabulous. We will be back next time we are in town!
Felt rushed from the moment we arrived. We understand seating is limited at the moment but seriously let me sit down first. Food quality to value is not there. $27 crabcakes using only claw meat is ridiculous.
The food is outstanding and its safety precautions are top notch. It was very clean and everyone was masked and social distanced. They made the patio a cozy but safe environment. You will need a reservation any night but it’s worth it!
Appreciated the reserved outdoor seating and protocols in place during these trying times. Server could have been a little more energetic and cheerful. Overall, food was really tasty, with only one of our five dining having a sub-par meal (Oysters were bland, with only the cornmeal taste coming through). Too note on price remark, we were from out of town so these may be in-line with proportions/$ in the area, just not ours. That said, would definitely try again if in town for an extended period.
The food was really great but service was not so great. I highly suggest the grits and the chicken fried Chicken. The restaurant had a nice ambience. Unfortunately we waited a while between courses because the waitress just didn’t show up that much.
The food is absolutely exquisite—the pimento cheese balls were top-notch and the fried catfish prepared perfectly. However, the true star of the meal was...the broccoli. Tender and seasoned to perfection.
Our server was delightful. She was enthusiastic about the menu. Food was creative and delicious. Highly recommend. Restaurant did a great job of outdoor dining.
fantastic service and food. We ate in the covered outdoor patio due to covid. The only downside were the persistent flies that wanted the honey for my cornbread. If you have the opportunity to go, do so, just down order the honey!
Our waitress was AMAZING and her energy was beyond lovely I believe her name was Lisa - she made the experience even better. Food, atmosphere, service ON POINT!
Great food and a great menu for both food and drinks.
Food and atmosphere were unbelievable. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for up scale healthy American cuisine in Cville
It was a delight to enjoy our first meal at a restaurant in months (due to the pandemic). Maya made the experience very nice, to the point where you wouldn't even think they were operating under social-distancing rules. The food was excellent, and the service was quite good as well - attentive, cordial, but not obtrusive (the last of which can sometimes be a problem at restaurants in the US). We absolutely would recommend Maya to a friend.
We went for my birthday, food was delicious and the service was prompt and courteous. Fun cocktails, the Reese’s Martini was a surprising hit.
Really had a nice time visiting Charlottesville and Maya was a big part of that. Very good food, great drinks and amazing service, especially for these times.
1st time out since COVID and felt very safe and clean! Had the trout and cheesy grits and totally wonderful! Highly recommend!
Always great. Solid cooking, great drinks ( yea! Ted!). Mindful of the Covid threat.
Wonderful food and extremely kind and accommodating.
Delicious food, great service. The staff is doing a great job of fulfilling responsibilities for safe dining in the time of COVID-19. Can't wait till the next time.
After the coronavirus pandemic closed restaurants for months, our family visited Maya and it was the perfect first dine-in, welcome-back experience we could have wished for. The restaurant staff took every precaution, including separating tables at a safe distance, using a virtual menu and requiring all staff to wear masks. Our outdoor patio table was comfortable and the perfect weather evening added to the beautiful setting. Since we were celebrating a family member's successful surgery, we began with cocktails and appetizers, worked our way through main courses with red and white wine and ended with dessert. The pimento cheese fritters and fried oysters were the perfect start and our salmon dishes and steaks were cooked perfectly. All side dish choices were tempting, but the sauteed leafy greens, whipped potatoes, mac & cheese and cheese grits were some of our favorites. After discussing dessert options with our server, we decided on the key lime pie and it was the perfect combination of tart and sweet. We have visited Maya prior to this visit and we are impressed with how the staff handled safety regulations while still retaining the welcoming atmosphere and delicious food that are trademarks of the restaurant. We look forward to our next visit!
Outdoor patio dining was pleasant. Super sanitizing of table and virtual menu as well as menu board.offered. Masks worn by staff. Food took awhile to appear but was very tasty. Enjoy this restaurant always and look forward to less health precautions which put a slight damper on the experience.
I'm so glad you're back! Hopefully you'll have the inside open soon.
I have Cancer and am doing Chemo. I was afraid it would be too cold, too noisy and nothing that would taste good. I was wrong!!! The food was so tasty, the beverages, and the heat was pushing right above me. The waitress was so accommodating! I had a grand meal and it was the first in a few days. I collapsed at the Chef's counter with gratitude and fullness on the way out. Thank you MAYA!!!!!!
Maya definitely lived up to its many positive reviews. I was in town with my partner and a friend and we wanted to try one of Charlottesville's better eating establishments, but we didn't want to go fancy. Maya fit the bill. We had reservations, and we were seated immediately. For appetizers, we had fried oysters and a meat and cheese plate. Both excellent. My main course was the hanger steak with brussels sprouts (w/bacon & onions) and the sweet potato fries. The steak was cooked to perfection and the mix of flavors with the brussels sprouts was amazing (who doesn't love bacon mixed with any type of veggie?). My partner had the local trout and our friend had the crab cakes. Again, both dishes a success. We each had dessert. Mine was a bread pudding special w/bourbon flavored ice cream. The bread pudding was a hit, but I could have done without the ice cream. Honestly, it didn't have much flavor. My partner wasn't wowed either by the key lime pie that he had. Our friend had the peanut butter fluff pie and loved it. Our server was awesome and very attentive during the entire meal. All in all, this was a great experience, and I would highly recommend Maya to anyone looking for some good (and slightly refined) southern cooking when in Charlottesville.
Maya is fabulous! My significant other realized he left his reading glasses in the car. While debating going back to the car our waitress brought him a pair of glasses! Very attentive to gluten sensitivity as well!
Maya is a comfortable, relaxed place to eat that seems well organized and professionally managed. The Southern-inspired menu offers good representations of familiar dishes. The portion size is reasonable although the prices skew a little high -- a dollar or two per item -- but that shouldn't stop you from eating there.
Maya is a wonderful restaurant. The food is exceptional and unique. And the value is high. Prices are kept to a reasonable level. One of the gems in Charlottesville.
The Tuesday night dinner special is hard to beat! For $12 you have a choice of four entrees plus two sides. The quality is in keeping with Maya's regular menu and I can't think of a better dinner value for the price.
This place is amazing! We love the ambience, service, and the food is delicious. If you are not a vegetarian, get the hanger steak! It literally melts in your mouth! Great selection of healthy sides, drinks, and desserts.
From the bartender to the host to the wait staff, my out of town family and I felt very cared for. Fun menu and location. Sitting upstairs for the sunset was a bonus!
So glad we arrived a little early so we could enjoy the happy hour menu and talking to Ted at the bar. His service and recommendations were excellent. Table service during our dinner was a little spotty. It seems the waitress had a lot of tables/customers seated around the same time. Food was suberb and we loved the flexibility of choosing our own sides and getting to try so many different ones between three of us.
