May Thai Kitchen is our go to place when we want to treat ourselves, family or friends. Delightful. The service is perfect.
Our server was delightful and provided excellent recommendations. The food was outstanding and the cocktails were perfect!
This was our first time at the May Kitchen and it was wonderful. The seating is a nice mix of tables and intimate booths; great ambiance and music level; service was exceptional; food was delicious! Servings were large so we had plenty of wonderful food for another meal at home.
May’s is a wonderful surprise of outstanding food and professional service on Vashon. We’re already big fans and this was just our second visit. Each dish was delicious and fresh, with true Thai flavors. They don’t skimp on the herbs and spices like some more Americanized Thai restaurants do. Cannot recommend them enough if you like Thai food. We also really enjoy their cocktails. They also surprised our birthday boy with a gratis dessert. How nice was that?! You should try them.
We have eaten at May Kitchen three times in the few years they have been open, and each time have asked ourselves the same question. What’s the big deal here? Much of the food is very sweet to our taste. That is not necessarily a flaw, but if you like your food on the savory side, you may be surprised at how sweet this food can be. A case in point is the Pad Thai that is served table side. As the server goes through the spiel about May’s childhood memories of having Pad Thai in the market in Thailand, I noticed a pile of granulated sugar perched on the side of the platter, next to the red pepper flakes. The server was planning on stirring that sugar into the noodles, and I had to ask her not to do so. Even without that added dollop of sugar, the dish was still too sweet for our tastes. I don’t care for my Pad Thai as the dessert course, thank you. It is not just this dish. The sweetness of other dishes has been a put off each time we have dined here. I am sure that there are many regional variations in cooking styles within Thailand, and maybe this is legit for May’s region. It is not bad food, but it is not appealing to us. The service was excellent and the general ambiance was fine. We think that the reason it is so popular is that Vashon offers too few dining choices.
May Kitchen is a great restaurant but every place can have an off night. Our server was very eager to please but their inexperience impacted our experience negatively. May’s has tiny tables & large dishware. We should have made it clearer that we didn’t want all three courses (4 items) on the table at once. It made for cold food and a cumbersome dinner. Our cocktails took 20 minutes when the restaurant was only a quarter full & the service was intrusive although well intentioned.
It’s a gorgeous place and usually the service is better. The food is lovingly prepared and the presentation is beautiful. I highly recommend May. Their front of the house training could be improved.
May K&B is my favorite place to go to on Vashon. Food is always delicious and the atmosphere is always so unique.
Love it every time we go! Never disappoints
Excellent, cheerful and friendly service, top notch ambience. Food was well herbed, delightfully presented, but too sugary and oversalted for my palate. Also, cilantro-tastes-like-soap-sufferers beware, EVERYTHING contained loads of it. Perhaps you can request the dishes be prepared without, but I didn't think to. When May's was first open, it didn't seem like the recipes were cilantro-laden. Recommend beer, not wine, with Thai food.
Amazing food and great service. Every bite was a treat!
Amazing Thai food - the best I have ever found. The ambiance is incredible: you walk through the door from the Main Street of vVashon into another world. The bar and seating is very conducive to quite conversations and energetic interchanges. The range of selections is fascinating and the table prepared Phad Thai is always a treat. A can't miss treat for anyone living on or visiting vashon Island.
Service was amazing as always. You're not rushed, we had plenty of time to eat our appetizers before our meal came. It was timed perfectly actually. Even though it was extremely busy, food arrived quickly and fresh. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful with the menu. Would definitely eat here again, and again, and again.
May Kitchen and Bar is always stellar, both in service and atmosphere. The food is amazing, the chef and owner May is truly a gifted chef and this is the best Thai food you will find outside of Thailand. The servers are warm, knowledgeable and make you feel like a welcome guest. Overall a lovely experience.
Always love my visits to May’s. Will definitly be back!
The soup was not hot. Sorry, no more to say about it
Everything was amazing and we all loved the pad Thai and the yellow curry.
A quick ferry ride from Seattle, entering May’s is Iike a portal to another country, dark teak walls and silk curtains create a soothing ambiance. Wait staff are professional and attentive and genuinely strive for an excellent dining experience. From the fried watercress appetizer plate, simmering Tom Kha gains soup, to PhadThai prepared table side, the food is authenticity delicious. Will be returning soon. Thank you.
Best authentic food and wonderful service. Wish us islanders could keep it a secret but happy to share this wonderful venue!
The only item missing from the menu was my favorite pork dish. It had lots of vegetables and an outstanding sauce. The plate looked like a soup/stew with pork strips. It may have had tamarind.
Cocooned in wood and candlelight, we always feel nurtured at May. More than a meal, it’s an experience. Friendly servers seem like old friends as they deliver information along with fragrant plates of food. And food is the star here. Outstanding food. For us. a night at May Kitchen and Bar is an evening in paradise.
We love the food and atmosphere and the wait staff, but the bartender is terribly slow to serve drinks.
The food as always delicious. I love the cuisine, and you do it the best for many miles. The house was full, but conversation was not too loud. I came by myself (never did that before!) and met someone beside me at the counter, and we had a very good conversation.
May has the best atmosphere for fine dining of anywhere on Vashon, and the food is second to none. Even the kitchen is beautiful. The staff are all professional and helpful.
On Halloween two years ago I attended a late night dance party at May, and ended up making an amazing friend.
On a personal taste level, I often like my curry dishes a bit less saucy (still very spicy, with perhaps a teensy bit more heat).
That's not to say I don't love the food here. I wouldn't know a thing about thai food because I've never been to Thailand.
Thanks for being an inspiring restaurant and contributing so much to this community!
What a wonderful dining experience! Very comfortable and attentive service. Delicious food. Excellent value, especially considering the exceptional quality. Warm, rich, even cozy ambience, with tables arranged in a way that enhances privacy even in the midst of a small-ish dining area. Our special occasion was enhanced by choosing to dine at May's. We have already recommended this restaurant to others, and we will return as soon and as often as possible. (We intend to work our way through the entire menu.) Can't comment yet about the cocktails/wine list, because we chose not to indulge on this visit, but the list was impressive. To say that it is worth the drive--and the ferry ride--is an understatement. Thank you to all at May's--bravo!
Definitely has become my favorite Thai restaurant anywhere, and a favorite special occasion restaurant on Vashon. Lots of great vegan and vegetarian options.
Excellent food and friendly staff. The decor is warm and inviting. Very enjoyable.
This is the best Thai food in the Seattle/Tacoma area. The flavors of every dish I have tried are complex, fresh and something I could not duplicate at home.
The best Thai food you will ever have outside of Thailand. It is worth noting that they will take special care if you have nut allergies. There is nothing I do not love about May Kitchen! Do get reservations - they are almost always full.
Excellent - as always! Authentic gem on vashon- worth the drive/ferry.
I was dubious when a friend said it was "the best Thai food in the STATE" but after eating there I can concur. Great vibe and amazing food. If I had a single complaint it would only be I was seated at the window and it was a little chilly. But this did not hamper my enjoyment of the food.
I celebrated my 75th birthday at May's with my family; and, as always, everyone thought that the restaurant was extraordinary.
Fabulous Food, Fantastic Service, Wonderful ambiance!
Best Thai food I've ever had, on a beautiful island that's worth the ferry trip from Seattle. 10/10 -- would highly recommend!
Don't be put off by the fact that it's a little hard to find due to its completely nondescript exterior; this is amazing Thai food. It was recommended to my by a local for a date night out while we stayed on the island. I'm so glad we did. The service was great and the food was amazing. I'll definitely be going back.
Every time I eat at May's it is an extraordinary delight. I have never been disappointed. The green curry with chicken is the best around. Some may think the noise level is a little much but I find that it adds to the liveliness of the experience.
Amazing staff, food, and experience. They go out of their way to help you have an enjoyable experience. The food is a 11 out of 10 in my opinion.
The food and service are consistently very good. Nice and cozy.
The Best Thai food in the area. So worth the ferry ride to Vashon. Period.
I always love coming to May Kitchen & Bar, and this was no exception! My sweetie and I especially loved the deep fried banana + coconut ice cream dessert. In a word, yum.
