Our server Kris, barely spoke to us. He approached our table, asked a question, and then walked off to the table behind us, just as we were answering. I've never been so blatantly and openly ignored by a server. His service was incredibly slow and he was barely visible to us. The food was lacking and didn't have anything to write home about. One of us ordered a medium well burger which showed up medium rare. Kris never returned to check on us so our colleague attempted to eat it half-heartedly before giving up.
At one point, another server walked by with dessert shortly after we finished dinner, and due to our obvious interest, stopped and showed us the fried cheesecake. Said it was "the best item on the menu". This piqued our interest and we couldn't wait to try it. However, Kris didn't return back to our table for another 30 minutes after this. When he did, we briskly walked by and asked "dessert?" But continued going and never stopped to take our order. Another 10 minutes later he returned and asked "what have you decided? The only thing I don't have tonight is the fried cheesecake. We are out of the tortillas." We couldn't believe it. This was the icing (or lack thereof) on the cake for us. We couldn't help but feel that his negligence left us defrauded of the infamous cheesecake. I understand this sounds dramatic and quite frankly the service was so terrible, it's comical. We all agree, none of us would ever return and would never recommend. Overall service for 2 apps, 1 drink, and 3 meals took over 90 minutes which I would argue is too long for a Monday night at 6:00pm.
We loved the atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly, patient and very accommodating. 3 out of 4 of us ordered the salmon and it was the best salmon I have ever had at any restaurant! I am usually a little disappointed when I get salmon at a restaurant because it is often dry or over salted. But not this time. I even took the leftovers home and had it for breakfast and it was still incredible. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Hostess was rude and in accommodating. Service was mediocre. Food was ok but between the unwelcoming hostess and the slamming door to the patio the overall experience was poor. Too many good restaurants in Atlanta to bother with a place like this one.
Awesome food and service, will definitely be back!
My regular fave spot, great food and atmosphere.
We were in Atlanta for a conference and needed a quality though not formal dinner that could accommodate 10 people. Max Lager's was the perfect spot for us! The atmosphere was lively and the vibe was very good. The food was fresh, the service attentive and the wine and beer list was good. My only (minor) complaint was that the bar closed at 10:30pm. We were told it would stay open later and were disappointed after a large group joined us. Overall, I recommend Max Lager's for a fun evening.
Excellent Place to eat! I highly recommend the Cowboy Steak! It was perfection! Our server Bryce was outstanding and did a fabulous job!
Need a more varied menu!
As always very special good service good atmosphere and Some of The Best Food and Beer we had a 9:00 reservation I think we wound up shutting the place down lost track of time Thank You for a wonderful evening and to the Staff and Chef 🍷 ps please next time we travel to GA don’t run out of mussels before we get there 😂
Went there on a busy Friday evening. Nice ambience, overwhelmed waiters, very mediocre food (basically pizza and fried stuff). Does not live up to reviews or ambition. Go there if you must have fried cheesecake. Otherwise...
Service was awful!! Food was average!! The only thing going for this place is the ambience
Our waitress Lexi was amazing. She was very attentive and had a great personality.
We didn’t think about dinner until about 7pm on a Friday night. Everywhere we tried was booked. When Max Lager had openings we were nervous that it was because it wasn’t good, but we tried it anyway. It was fantastic. We were a party of 3 and all 3 of us enjoyed our entrees and drinks. We shared a piece of chocolate cake for dessert, which was huge and a perfect amount for sharing. Our server was friendly and accommodating. Prices were reasonable, especially for the large portions. We agreed that we would return.
Need Valet Parking: They say they have it, but you have to go to White Oaks Restaurant.
Not really at their place. Lot Parking it $12. Would not go back, as it was a $50 experience for $100.
Great food and beers. Would definitely recommend it.
Great ambiance and food. Steak was over cooked but still had great flavor. Fried cheesecake was some kind of whole different experience.....Nice place.
I love a good salad. And this place has a great offering and they are as good as they sound
The food nor the service was as good as I expected. Disappointing.
Second time and it was just as good. Food is delicious.
Not quite as romantic and I was hoping but the food was pretty good and the waitress was great. My NY strip was a bit under cooked and a little more fatty than I expected. Saying that, I still ate most of it!
Great experience! Food was good and drinks were good and the service was excellent.
Steaks are AWESOME!! It has a great atmosphere! The only issue we had was the fact that we only seen our server twice. Once to get our drinks and order and then to bring our check.
We have been coming here for years! Scott is our absolute favorite waiter and go back for his excellent service
Excellent food, wonderful service!
Ordered filet steaks and burgers which were perfectly prepared. Nice ambiance and service.
Worth the 3 1/2 hour drive
Nice pub atmosphere, friendly place. Wood fired pizza is wonderful. Large menu. They make their own beer and you can taste beer before buying. We went there twice while in Atlanta over a 3 day weekend. Easy walk from Peachtree Center.
Food was great, one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Their craft beer was yummy! Service was a little slow but I think they had a special even upstairs.
Celebrated my 29th wedding anniversary this past weekend. We have had our anniversary dinner here 8 of those years. Wonderful beer, awesome steaks and chops, and the best collards we have ever had. Great staff as well. Had a 7 pm reservation and arrived 20 min early and was prompted seated. We live in the Athens area, and do a “stay-cation” in Downtown very couple of years and this is our “go-to” restaurant. Can’t say enough about how wonderful the food, house brewed beer, atmosphere and staff are.
Food was so-so. Beer was great.
We love this place! Everything is consistently delicious and the service is always outstanding! An underrated Atlanta staple!
Grabbed dinner before heading to a show at the Fox. We were so happy to introduce this place to our best friends. They enjoyed their meals as we always do!
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the atmosphere, and how romantic it was. We came for his birthday celebration. The steak and chocolate cake are to die for!
I was pretty disapointed with the brisket sandwich. Way over cooked. Beers were good, but nothing too exciting. My server was GREAT. The only reason service wasn't 5 stars is because the hostess was not very inviting. There were some other items on the menu that looked interesting and would probably give it one more try . I really wanted to like it.
Great food in a great atmosphere... Glad we had a reservation. Last time we ate here waited over an hour!
was 10 minutes early for reservation. Informed host/manager it appeared, that I was there. He said he would be with me in a few minutes. He was very unfriendly and curt.
I asked if we waited at upstairs bar would they come get us, the answer was 'no, just come back when you're done'.
So I did.... Was seated in the loudest area of the restaurant by the bar while some big football game was going on.
Server was very nice and accommodating however food was mediocre at best.
Probably would not return.
Great service and food. Wait staff was very accommodating offered opinions and customized options. Will be going back!
I've been here several times when in town on business. The atmosphere is lively and can be kind of loud at times. We happened to get seated next to a speaker this time and we could barely hear each other. We asked the waiter if the music could be turned down a bit and he said no problem. Turns out the speakers have individual volume controls. The food, service and beverages are alway consistent. I have noticed that the menu does not vary much. The plus of that is, you will always find your favorite dish on the menu. The down side is there is rarely anything new to try.
One of my favorite places to eat when I come to Atlanta for the Gift Show.
One of the best steaks I've ever had - tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Great casual ambiance. Great beer selection. Good desert menu.
