About Max Lager's Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery
Max Lager's was one of the first restaurants to bring the fresh and natural wood-fired menu concept to Atlanta. The art of cooking with wood enhances the Max Lager's experience with bold flavors simply not found with alternative cooking methods. We feel that the investment made in the wood-fired grill is an investment that pays great dividends to our guests.
All Max Lager's menu items are prepared daily from scratch. Wood-fired steaks, burgers, seafood, ribs, and pizza are Max Lager's signature items. An inspired selection of entrée salads and pastas add variety to the American menu.

Max Lager's Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery Ratings and Reviews
Celebrated my 29th wedding anniversary this past weekend. We have had our anniversary dinner here 8 of those years. Wonderful beer, awesome steaks and chops, and the best collards we have ever had. Great staff as well. Had a 7 pm reservation and arrived 20 min early and was prompted seated. We live in the Athens area, and do a “stay-cation” in Downtown very couple of years and this is our “go-to” restaurant. Can’t say enough about how wonderful the food, house brewed beer, atmosphere and staff are.
I was pretty disapointed with the brisket sandwich. Way over cooked. Beers were good, but nothing too exciting. My server was GREAT. The only reason service wasn't 5 stars is because the hostess was not very inviting. There were some other items on the menu that looked interesting and would probably give it one more try . I really wanted to like it.
was 10 minutes early for reservation. Informed host/manager it appeared, that I was there. He said he would be with me in a few minutes. He was very unfriendly and curt.
I asked if we waited at upstairs bar would they come get us, the answer was 'no, just come back when you're done'.
So I did.... Was seated in the loudest area of the restaurant by the bar while some big football game was going on.
Server was very nice and accommodating however food was mediocre at best.
Probably would not return.
I've been here several times when in town on business. The atmosphere is lively and can be kind of loud at times. We happened to get seated next to a speaker this time and we could barely hear each other. We asked the waiter if the music could be turned down a bit and he said no problem. Turns out the speakers have individual volume controls. The food, service and beverages are alway consistent. I have noticed that the menu does not vary much. The plus of that is, you will always find your favorite dish on the menu. The down side is there is rarely anything new to try.
Ordered a wedge salad and a steak.
Wife got a pizza.
Pizza came out with a burger, sent it back... never got a salad
Sent the same thing out again, this time kept the pizza send back same burger.
Wife half through pizza and salad comes out.
20, yes 20 minutes later I got my steak. It was a good steak but not worth the aggravation.
They did comp the steak and salad but meal was a complete disaster.
Had the pork chop and the bbq ribs. Server didn’t ask how to cook pork chop (we wanted med rare) but it arrived in relatively good shape. A little over medium rare. The bbq ribs were very dry and no additional sauce offered. Had them in the past and they were very moist. This time a little dry.
This has been a favorite of ours for many years—maybe the kitchen was having a bad day.
Only stopped in for appetizers and a beer but they were very good. Saved room for the seasonal peach cobbler. In Georgia, had to. It was sooo good. Too bad it’s not a menu option. Advice: leave room for dessert because they know what they’re doing. PS. Enjoyed both the 320 and Four Winds brews.
This place was good...not great. They do have their own beers and the ambience is great. I thought the food was a bit overpriced. Our server forgot something on three of our four orders and we asked for oranges with our beers and they never came. I wouldn’t say things were terrible. What I would say is if you are going to this place for great food and service you may want to pick somewhere else. If you are going for some local brewed beers and some good food along with it, give it a try.
The pork chop and mashed potatoes were transcending, but I did not care for the collared greens. However, I live in North Dakota and am not accustomed to collared greens, so I’m sure they were very good by southern standards. The beer I had was tasty and very well priced, but wish there were less hoppy options. A 25 IBU is aboutnad much as I can do. Even the He beer was a 29 I still enjoyed it.
