Max Brenner - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
The hostess crammed us next to a huge group where we could barely get into our seats and were greeted with a bad attitude when asked to move tables. The food was overpriced and bland. The drinks weren’t worth it either. The only good part was dessert which is all I can recommend this place for.
Chocolate drinks and desserts were outstanding! Well worth the trip! Entrees were good, but definitely came for the chocolate. Server was very good, but food took extended time to be served with very few other patrons present. Chocolate drinks and desserts were slightly overpriced for their value. Food was very overpriced for the value. Overall, very good experience for a couple the day before Valentines’s Day.
I come here for one thing, and one thing only, the Brenner burger! Never disappoints. The cramped seating and putting up with several noisy tables of 6 guests behind us the whole time and the long wait for the 2 bathrooms is always worth it. Usually pop in here early evening to fuel up before hitting various local dance spots.
While the food, drinks, and dessert was excellent, the service was spotty at best. We were greeted by one server named Cat, who was lovely. Then 10 minutes later while waiting for our drinks, another gentleman comes over and says he will be serving us and there was a "territory" battle. Had to start our ordering process all over again. He later told us that there was a "mishap" with the dessert drinks which was off-putting.
Additionally, there is only 2 single bathrooms for the entire restaurant which is far too few.
We didn't let this experience detract from our early V-day date. Would go back for drinks/dessert.
We were there Saturday for our granddaughter 16th birthday. Her and 6 of her friends sat at a high top and me, my husband and son sat at another table. The food was great, our waiter was awesome, very attentive. The kids had a great time as did we. Fun place. The burgers are excellent!!
We went after the Eagles Parade!! Food was good, but service was slow which was expected. Our waitress was terrible! It took 30 minutes for her to get our drinks after we ordered them. Once we had our food she never came back over. While we waited for her, we watched her walk in and out of the kitchen, hug and greet friends that came in the restaurant, and do everything and anything else to avoid checking in on us. Once we received the check, she was over quickly to run my card and return it and then never came back. After sitting for 10 minutes trying to get her attention, she finally looked over at our table and I had to flag her over. I asked her for change, for her tip because I prefer to give cash, and she had a huge attitude. She told me I could have asked anyone or went to the bar to get change. I did speak to the manager about her and when she saw me speaking to him, she ran away. I told her to come over, but clearly she knew she was wrong. As I was leaving, the manger walked over to speak with her.
Was really looking forward to celebrating my sons b-day. When we arrived the host said he didn’t have my reservation. After showing him my confirmation email he said he would seat us but we needed to split up. So we had three adults and 5 kids all around 10-14 in age. Instead of giving us two table close to each other they sat the kids all the way across the restaurant. Made no sense since there were two open tables next to mine the whole night. The waitress that waited on the kids made it known that she was aggravated that there was no adults at her table. I explained to her that I’m not sure why the host did that but I was not separating the kids since it was a birthday. After dealing w attitudes from the host and waitstaff and eating mediocre food I will not be returning. The dessert is the only thing that was worth it.
I came to Max Brenner's with four other families. When I was seated I naturally requested a table with the other families. The hostess had a major problem with that because we were all in one server's section and it wasn't fair to the other servers. After a lot of conversations we eventually got most, but not all, families close. I really hate spending money at places that have rules. The restaurant eventually filled up within 30 minutes of our arrival time so all of the servers would have been taken care of. Not only that, but it seemed like were given attitude by our waitress after the seating issue. The restaurant didn't seem to care about what we as customers wanted at all. First and last time I will go to this restaurant.
I was a server for years and if I treated my customers the way these servers treated us I would have been fired on the spot. Rude, unaccommodating, I would even go as far as to say hostile.
The Manager seemed unable to help us (a large group in an empty restaurant when we arrived) for fear of “upsetting” his servers.
Time for new staff me thinks. The food was fantastic. Kudos to the kitchen.
Made a lunch reservation for my boyfriend's birthday with our kids. Service was incredibly slow. Or waiter seemed very overwhelmed with his 3-4 tables and kept asking us about and telling us about the dinner menu. Ordered the kids' food as soon as we got there and beers for us. Kids were starving and it took at least 20-25 minutes to get pancakes and mac and cheese. Beers came after the kids' food. My water glass was dirty and never got a new water (had to ask for it half way though the meal). We split a burger and cobb salad. Burger was good, salad was mediocre. Dessert was excellent (obviously) and then it took about 20-25 minutes to get our bill even though we asked twice. Birthday candle with a chocolate came after the bill arrived - clearly they forgot even though I put it in the reservation. Certainly not running back just for dessert.
Always have a good time when we dine at Max Brenner. The tables are way too close together and trying to enjoy an anniversary while only being able to hear your neighbors conversations is difficult. That did take away from the experience. Drinks and food are always good and our server, Casey H, was great.
My experience was horrible. I made reservations for 2 on a Sunday at 1:00pm and the restaurant had more empty tables than taken ones when I arrived. I asked the hostess and the waitress if we can move to a different table because we were cold from the opening door. They both said that all the tables are reserved. Of course no one was seated at any of the tables we asked to move to even as we left. The food runner gave us our food and I asked for a straw and water from her and she rolled her eyes. Of course the food wasn’t cooked right but we figured because of the poor service we should just eat what they gave us. I was disappointed.
I was very disappointed. The food was absolutely terrible. There wasn't much of a selection and the food was still really bad. My husband's burger was so soggy that the bottom bun fell apart, my kids' macaroni and cheese was tasteless and watery. My other son's pizza was gross, it was a little bit of sauce and cheese on a wrap. And my salad was drenched with so much dressing that it was hard to eat, and I like a lot of dressing. These are items that are pretty hard to mess up and they still managed. They are known for their chocolate drinks and desserts and even those were terrible. Save your money and go somewhere else.
We tried Max Brenner for the first time during restaurant week. Overall, we all had a great experience. Everyone liked the food that they ordered which is saying something because we had a couple picky eaters with us. The dessert menu is so vast and everything sounds so good, it makes for a really tough decision on what to order, but you can take comfort in the fact that there probably isn't a wrong choice. We had four different desserts and they were all great.
