Max Brenner - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I went there with our two children (10 y/o and 4 y/o). The dinner food was very good, the chocolate martini was delicious, but we would have liked some side options for the kids meals (i.e., carrots, applesauce or broccoli) and the chocolate desserts we ordered were just okay.
For dessert, we ordered the pizza, as it came recommended by the server, but we were not thrilled with the flavor of the bread, which was the base of the pizza, or the melted chocolate on top. Since the dessert descriptions on the menu are so playful, we recommend Max Brenner showing pictures of the various options in order to fully understand what it is that you are ordering, so the customer expectations are met. Not sure if we will go back...
I was a bit apprehensive about dining here after some of the other reviews I read about the food. My husband and I took our two kids (ages 3 and 2) and their great-grandmother for dinner after seeing Alice in Wonderland in town. We had a great time and the food and desserts were wonderful. The Brenner burger was perfect (and huge), the steak panini was also delicious and very generous. The kids had a peanut butter and banana sandwich with a huge bowl of melted chocolate to dip in... they loved it. Onion rings and wings for appetizers were the best of each that I've had in awhile. Dessert was also great.... but that is what they are known for!
My parents came from out of town and I wanted to have a special birthday lunch at some place different, not too fancy but still nice and with a diverse menu. Somewhat the idea of Marathon but not overwhelmingly loud or packed like that place can be and this place was perfect! The food was incredible and not to mention the desserts because obvious the chocolate was amazing for this chocolate lover! The restaurant was not crowded when we went which was nice but even if it was you can tell that it would still feel comfortable and not like you are on top of the tables next to you. Also if you're sitting next to the window great for people watching in that area. I definitely plan on going there again.
My girlfriend and I went on a monday night, because we knew it would be a bit quieter than normal. We were seated and served immediately, and the food was brought out quickly, and not too hot, like it was cooked then thrown under a heat light. Nothing was over done, and the waitress explained the details of each order, and then, she left us to ourselves. It was a wonderful time, and we told our friends about the wonderful time we had.
This place is a must-go for any chocolate or dessert lovers! They go above and beyond with their menu selections, making it hard to narrow your choice down to one or two desserts. The decor and music also makes this experience romantic for a date and fun if you are with a group.
The food was fabulous. Great choices and presentation were unique and fun. I would recommend this place to anyone it has a great atmosphere. One down fall seating is tight and tables are small not good for sampling some food. Prices are very reasonable! My new favorite place to eat :)
Took my best friend here for her birthday. Our dinners (I had a cheeseburger, she had the salmon) were absolutely delicious and we ate every bite despite saying we would only eat half. The desserts were phenomenal -- I ordered the banana split waffle at my waiter's suggestion and enjoyed every last bite. I also tried my friend's hazelnut crepe, and it was chocolate heaven. (totally ordering that next time!)
Can't wait to return -- I'm already organizing a trip back! :)
The Staff really needs to have some customer service training. The women working the gift shop section was extremely unfriendly to everyone in the shop. The waitress was not very pleasant. This is a place where customer service should be their main focus. A specialty restaurant like this should be a place where everyone is happy. I will not go back and I have posted on my facebook that the staff at this place is unfriendly.
Max Brenner is a dessert spot more than anything else. They have an extremely limited menu, but then again, they really market themselves as dessert and chocolate driven before lunch or dinner prominent anyway. My suggestion would be to have lunch/dinner at some other restaurant, or even at home then make your way to Max Brenner for a chill ambiance with excellent dessert options.
We were a group of adults with one child. They were very accomodating to the child. Food was good, cafe-style food. Service was good although I had to twist their arm a bit to seat us before the entire party had arrived. Clearly the highlight was the chocolate based drinks and food, all of which were very good. The place was crowded and noisy. But I would go there again for the right occasion.
HORRIBLE meal. HORRIBLE... Salmon with blackened sesame seeds was so dry that you could barely get a knife through it. Dipping each dried out piece into the provided sauce did nothing to make it palatable. Accompanying vegetables couldn't have been more than about 1/3 cup of overcooked mush. This was so terrible. Never again.
I'll always continue to come back that's for sure. I love the food and desserts. The drinks need improvement I ordered the alcoholic peach lemonade. First, it tasted like pure lemon juice I couldn't taste peach nor alcohol, it was impossible to drink! Second, my friend got a beer and she wanted a glass to pour it in because they Only have bottles and they brought her a juice glass! There water glasses were bigger! As far as the service I've had two different service experiences here. Either the server is nowhere to find her when you need her or the hover over you so much you don't have privacy. But if you love chocolate or good food this is the place to go!
