Max Brenner - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
The hot chocolate is the best I have ever had in the United States. We had the Mexican spice hot chocolate and the chocolate and cream both very good an unique. Great for cold weather. We had salmon fir lunch well prepared good portion. I had waffle cheese steak sandwich which is again unique tasting. I recommend for a fun cold afternoon.
Food was good but very disappointed that our request to add someone to our reservation could not be met. We basically were sat at a cocktail table for dinner. Overbooking and squeezing your patron in like sardines does not make me want to rush back. This is the third time I've been squeezed in with other patrons on top of us. No fun! Andnsince when can a 3 top not able to become a 4 top with 2 hour notice?
My boyfriend and I went for an early New Year’s Eve dinner. It was just ok. Our server was great, but I ordered $16 Mac and cheese and had to send it back because it was so dry and basically just noodles baked with breadcrumbs on top. The 2nd batch was better but not great. He got a burger, and the 5 waffle fries he got, were delicious, no complaint there, but a little stingy with the fries. We also ordered the classic fondue.... strawberries were not ripe, the banana was overly ripe and too mushy, the cookie pieces were stale and dried out. The peanut butter hot chocolate was the best part, I would have been happy with just getting that and the waffle fries. I’ve heard great things about this place, but wasn’t overly impressed and probably won’t return.
We had been gifted tickets to the Nutcracker for the last performance for the year so we went to our favorite with our daughter. Food was good and desserts were excellent as usual. Only downfall was the tea. Although it was loose tea and in a very cool pot dispenser, the tea was extremely bitter ..... very hard to drink bitter. When we told the waitress she said she knew about it and offered cream or milk ...... sorry not good. Avoid the tea!
Really disappointed. I've eaten here before and loved the food, however this time when my boyfriend and I were celebrating a special occasion I was very disappointed. We were originally seated, and then later asked to move to a different table to accommodate for a large group that was being seated. We ended up in a crowded, very large area where we could barely hear each other talk. It was below freezing out and the hostesses did nothing about guests leaving all the doors wide open so it was horribly drafty and when we complained nothing was done. We were all dressed up to celebrate our anniversary and spent the whole night bundled up in our winter coats. Our entree was delicious but our server took our plates before we were done and when our chocolate fondue came for dessert it got even worse. An open flame was provided to roast the two marshmallows our dessert with which is a nice idea but entirely unnecessary. With the wind and drafts hitting our table it was actually verY hazardous and we had to have a waiter come put it out with much difficulty. Next time I plan on spending $100 on a meal, I will take my money somewhere else.
While I had made a reservation we did not have to wait long before we were seated, but I do know others who, without a reservation, have been asked to wait up to 2 hours for a table. The great thing about the restaurant is that while it’s theme is obviously anything chocolate related, they also offered a regular food menu that was just as equally drool worthy. Although, our waitress seemed stressed and was a little rude on a few occasions throughout the evening and the restaurant was full which is probably why the noise level was almost to its max. Overall, the food was amazing. If you’re a foodie or a chocolate lover, you’ll love it here. We will definitely be back, Max Brenner!
My family of 5 had reservations for Max Brenner for my son's 12th birthday. The food is delicious especially if you are a chocolate lover. Our waitress was outstanding. My only negative is we were seated by the door and it was FREEZING!!!!!! They need to put an extra heater near the door in the winter. Something needs to be done. It was very uncomfortable.
Sadly, this place was a bust. It began with water being brought to the table with floaties inside it and the dessert menu being sticky. The subpar experience continued with a ten minute wait time to use the ONE unisex bathroom they have. Positives include the server who was very friendly and energetic. The highlight of the meal was the urban s’mores dessert, but for $20+ it seemed way overpriced for what you got. All and all I wouldn’t recommend and don’t plan to return.
The hostesses were the worst . If you you like eye rolling then this is the place to go. Was told we we would be seated shortly for our 1pm reservation but watched other parties arrive and sit prior to us. Finally asked to speak to a manager who said he apologizes and will see what’s going on. The manager was in a complete daze. There where so many available tables but we were told that they could not seat 3 people at the available tables of 4. Guess what during our meal they sat parties of 2sand 3s at those tables. Waited over 40 minutes to be seated for our 1pm reservation. There need to be better training of hostesses and manager. You would think the manger would of stopped by our table but he did not. Not planning on going there again definitely not worth it.
This is a place to have a hot chocolate and/or fondue for dessert. The rest of the menu and ambiance is average. Unfortunately, the host personnel came across as highly arrogant both when addressing our reservation request and when we arrived at the restaurant which diminished an otherwise overall pleasant experience.
We went based on a friend's recommendation. Very disappointed. I didn't mind that the menu offerings were simple but simple food should be good. The cheesesteak waffle had no flavor and the waffle was underdone. The "s'mores concoction" was just a mess of cloyingly sweet blandness. Waitress was nice but overwhelmed. Had to ask for plates and silverware for the appetizer.
While our waitress and the hostesses where spectacular, I probably ordered all the wrong stuff.
They sat us next to the window which was a great view but it was so cold because there was about a half an inch crack on the doors that the cold air blew right threw.
They need to update.
My six year old daughter and I Went to “the chocolate restaurant” before going to a ballet at the Academy of music. It was super close to the theater, which was very nice. It smells so sweet and cozy as soon as we went in the doors, and we had fun with the intense chocolate experience. We shared a flatbread pizza, and had a lot of fun with the “urban S’mores.” It was bright, loud, sweet, crowded and fun.
Our server, Daysia, was great. We made a reservation and they seated us at the table closest to the door where everyone waits. It was FREEZING. (20 degrees outside). The food came fast but we waited 25 minutes for our fondue dessert. Others around us received food way faster. Between the frigid temperature at our table and the length of time to get dessert, we wouldn't return. Also, we wanted to buy a chocolate souvenir to bring to family but no one would come and take our money in the little store attached to the restaurant. A server ignored us as we asked him if there was anyone who could help us, and the hostess told us someone would be over shortly. After we waited 10 minutes, along with another woman who wanted to purchase several items, and no one came, we had to leave to get to the theater. What a shame!
I get that it was the day after Christmas and maybe they were understaffed but it took way too long to get anything and a table for three barely fit two plates. Everyone was packed in like sardines and our waitress had way too many tables to even ask how we were doing or refill our glasses. For what we got, it should not have taken us over 1.5 hours to get served and eat. Also our fondue's lighted candle to roast marshmallows could seriously set something on fire. Everyone around us were scared for us but again no waitress around to have it taken away. I'd think twice before coming here again.
Service very slow dirty tables very dirty bathrooms hostess very rude food less thenexpected tpok to long had to ask for spoons knives fprks spoons napkinswaitress nerver appered to see if we needef anything had to find her very epensive npt worth the money but my biggest point wad the incleanlineds of the restaurant and bathrooms very sad .
This was our first trip, and certainly not out last. I was shocked, even with reservation how quickly we were seated (immediately) and food service was expedited. We didn't know anything about the menu and our waiter took the time to explain everything and walk us through our options. We certainly had a fabulous meal with their take on the Cuban sandwich. We shared an entry and the Sharable Fondue. My wife got the chocolate martini which was to die for. The chili aoli was fantastic on the burger as well as the fries. I look forward to hearing back again!
