I enjoyed the meal at Max Brenner’s. The portions were of a hearty size and the drinks were prepared well. However, it was a big turn off for the restaurant to have only two bathrooms and both be unisex. The bathrooms were in disarray but this could’ve been due to the holiday crowd. All in all, I’d like to come back to try different items off of their menu. I believe it’s a great place for a date or get together. I don’t know about a celebration as the dining area seems rather “cozy.” I also believe it is a great place for just dinner or just dessert.
Been twice & love the food. As b4 waitstaff was exceptional. Wait time for food was a tad long, but it was v crowded
We had to adapt this reservation to this time, because of schedule changes and then ended up being 30 minutes early. The staff did everything they could to seat us as soon as possible and were so pleasant and helpful about getting us served in time to make our ballet show! Food was delicious, even though the place was very busy - actually all the best in our many times of eating at Max B's!
Great experience. We had reservations but arrived almost an hour early. They were able to seat us in minutes. Waitress was attentive and friendly. Food was great- hot and tasted delicious. Free refills on fountain beverages a plus! Dessert was amazing.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed dining at this restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the food and our waiter Kyle. I do however have one complaint, unfortunately I am currently on crutches due to a ankle and leg fracture although getting around is difficult establishments are typically more than accommodating when the recognize my circumstances, Max Brenner was not after being dropped off and left alone until my fiance found parking I was left STANDING in the crowded waiting area until our table was ready. I understand how busy things can get in a downtown restaurant on a Saturday evening but to leave me standing there without even asking if I needed a seat was unacceptable.
Unfortunately, I was not happy with my experience at the restaurant. This was my first visit and I took my daughter and her friend for her friend's birthday. We added one more person to our reservation and instead of seating up appropriately, my seat backed up to another table where I had to keep getting up to let the other people out when they needed to get up.
We were there for a total of 3 hours 2 of which we were waiting for food, drinks, dessert. Our waitress was not attentive to us at all and did not show any interest in serving us at all. I believe I had to get up at least 3 different times or more to find her to ask for water, clean off the table and get our check. Our bill for 5 people was over $200 and it was definitely NOT worth it. It was not an enjoyable experience to say the least.
Food is ok, friendly waitress
Great for kids
Very good comfort food. Obviously, the desserts are great, but our dinner was wonderful also.
We had a reservation, arrived slightly late and were seated promptly. Our server took note of the fact that we only had about 30 minutes before catching the subway to see the 76ers. She was very responsive. The entrés and desserts were good.
Everything was wonderful for our time here. No wait time, food was great, drinks as well, and the customer service was excellent.
We’ve been here several times and decided to celebrate our sister-in-law’s birthday here most recently. As usual we had a great experience. Our server was friendly and prompt. Dinner was delicious and dessert was decadent!
Went recently for my daughters birthday. She is very pregnant and I thought chocolate would be appreciated. We had a reservation and table was not available for a bit, that happens so not horrible. We were seated at a table that had barely been wiped down. The waiter finally showed up and took drink order. We waited at least 25 minutes for a glass of wine and cocktail to be brought to table. He then took our food order. We had no silverware, so after asking for some, our waiter plops down in front me me 6 knifes,6 forks and a pile of napkins. Since when do you go to dinner to set your table own table ? Of course two pieces of The silverware were not usable/dirty and the waiter was no where to be found to have them exchanged. Our food was mediocre at best. The service was completely horrible. There was not one thing that we asked for that was delivered timely or with an ounce of pleasantry. And the real jab- parking was $30 at the closest garage with openings. That is not the fault of Max Brenner by any means, but does kind of add insult to injury. My suggestion is stick to the deserts as that is what they seem to do best. Would never recommend a having a dinner there.
Food was excellent and creative, service was top notch!
Fun, creative menu, well prepared. Staff was pleasant for seating and wait. A bit noisy, so not too conducive for quiet conversation. Recommend visiting at least once. I will go again.
This is a glorified Bennigans- only bennigans food is much better. Don’t ever go here for the food. Dessert maybe- but really that’s sort of gimmicky too. You can get better high quality chocolate desserts at a real restaurant. Save your time and money.
Overall the food was underwhelming and overpriced. The best thing we had were the waffle fries with bacon and cheese sauce but for $10 we got a very small portion. The southwestern Caesar salad with chicken was drenched in dressing making it pretty soggy and unappetizing. We ordered two cheesesteaks on waffle sandwiches and in both cases the waffles were thin and chewy. Later we saw them being microwaved in the kitchen which explained why they were chewy. Only giving 3 stars because the chocolate pizza was pretty good but very messy and a lot smaller than it looked in pictures.
Everything was delicious! I hope you really like chocolate!
I think we would have had a better time if not for the large, unattended group of children (ranging in age from 10-16) dropped there at 9:30. Staff could do nothing to get them and their yelling/horseplay under control. I hadn’t realized this was the kind of establishment where parents would just drop their kids off at 9:30pm on a Friday night. That they were then playing with the fire associated with their fondue pots was less than ideal for this mom who was excited to get out for the night. I will likely avoid this spot and favor something that’s for the grown ups next time.
Food was cold (spinach dip). Sandwich wasn't heated enough to melt the cheese on it.
Such a great experience. Friends, food, and chocolate. What could be better than that!!!!
Food portions small for the money.
Great place and the food comes quick! The deserts are awesome
Overall our experience was good, however a few hiccups. Had a 6:15 Reservation and weren’t seated until 6:25 - ten mins makes a big difference with hungry kids. Then our table was very wobbly which made eating fondue difficult. We had spinach and artichoke dip that was lukewarm... But the chocolate fondue was incredible and the chocolate, desserts, and drinks are worth the trip.
Overall it is a great experience for anyone that has ever been there. Place was crowded but acoustics are very good. Place needs to be modernized or updated- looks the same as the last 2 times I was there over the last 15 years or so. Food was very tasty - the desserts are awesome . The menu selection especially the desserts is excellent.
Came here for my daughters sixteenth bday with 6 of her girlfriends. They all loved it! Specially the waffle celebration and the choc pizza! Definitely recommend this place. We’ll come back again!
Was a great time. Went for our anniversary and had a great time. Service was prompt, attentive and friendly. The milkshakes are to die for
This place is amazing!! The waitress we had was awesome. She literally was on point with everything. She was very nice and such a great help with our questions because it was out first time there. The host was such a great guy. They were very accommodating to my weird requests. It was my birthday dinner date with my boyfriend and my first time out to eat since my kidney transplant. When. I made the reservation I had a simple request of having everything we ordered prepared well done and made to eat, basically asking it to be brought out as soon as it was ready and not sit under the heat lamps because it could cause issues with my new kidney. They had no issue with it what so ever. The food was AMAZING! Everything from the appetizers to our last bite of dessert was mouth watering. I was so impressed. It literally was a perfect night and I honestly was so grateful towards the staff for being able to do that for me. I would recommend this place to anyone and actually already have to several of my friends. To be able to go out was something I needed and they helped make that possible! So with that said thank you guys for making it such a special night for me!
Very Busy on sunday night .. but the hostess went above and BEYOND to help us find a table! She was adorable and it was extremely busy Sunday Feb 18th after 7pm. We went for dessert and it was awesome. So fun and delicious!
Food was delicious and totally unexpected. I thought the desserts were the reason to visit, but now I know the food is also. Would definitely visit again.
Very drafty and cold. Noisier than I’d expected. Food was delicious and perfectly done.
Celebrated with a few friends for a 16th birthday. Was perfect for the teens as well as adults! Enjoyed the various chocolate inspired items!
First, I would not call this a kid-friendly place (I dined with an 8 year old and a 2 year old). Second, I would definitely not call it one of the best in Philadelphia. Our waiter was very good and the cocktails were good. That is where the positives end though. The place is remarkably small with only 2 unisex bathrooms. It had the look and feel of your local Starbucks. There were no linens or centerpieces. The chocolate cocktails were good and came quickly, as did the appetizers. The chocolate milk was very good but both my kids' drinks came in strangely shaped ceramic mugs (not kid-friendly). The food arrived within a reasonable time and was tasty. Much to my dismay, we never had a chance to eat the desserts for which this place is famous. We placed our order after finishing our meals and 45 minutes we still did not have the desserts we ordered. From the moment we were seated until we finally received our desserts (which I had wrapped up to-go) was 2 hours and 10 minutes. If we had determined to stay and eat the desserts, this meal would have certainly neared the 2.5 hour mark which is a little nuts given we had other plans for the evening. Our reservations were at 4:30 p.m. so we were hardly at the peak of dining time. I can only imagine the horror of a Saturday night in this place. I simply would not recommend this unless you have several hours to kill and a lot of patience. If you're looking for kid friendly with great dessert selections, I'd go to the Cheesecake Factory across the street. Our entire meal was well over $200 for 2 adults and 2 kids, and it really wasn't worth it.
The restaurant was very crowded so we were packed in like sardines. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful, but we didn’t feel the food was worth the money. We loved the chocolate stout to drink and the kids liked their dessert. We were excited t go and expected more...
Food was excellent, service was terrible!!! Our food came out before our drinks and the server never brought us our appetizer, so requested they take it off the bill. We were running late for a show due to the service so no dessert (which was the whole reason we went) which disappointed the kids. I also had to ask for our check a few times. Again, the food was great just sad that everything else was so bad.
Fun place to celebrate my cousin’s birthday. Food was great. Service was slow at first but picked up. Cleanliness of the restaurant left something to be desired, especially in the restrooms.
Our waiter was amazing. Food came out promptly... prob because you got no food. For the money we paid per dish we didn’t receive the proper food amount. My daughter had a bday dinner and 7 girls all ordered chicken fingers and received 2 each. Not worth the money at all. We all left hungry and we ordered dessert. Will never recommend or go back. It’s a shame because we loved the restaurant and our waiter!
Max Brenner Philadelphia was great! They did being my date the wrong meal, but they fixed it. They accidentally charged us for both meals, but fixed that as well, so we were pleased. Our waitress was super friendly. The food and the chocolate was amazing. I recommend the fondue! The only issue is how tightly packed a lot of the two-person tables are. I wish I had more room.
