Max Brenner - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
First, I would not call this a kid-friendly place (I dined with an 8 year old and a 2 year old). Second, I would definitely not call it one of the best in Philadelphia. Our waiter was very good and the cocktails were good. That is where the positives end though. The place is remarkably small with only 2 unisex bathrooms. It had the look and feel of your local Starbucks. There were no linens or centerpieces. The chocolate cocktails were good and came quickly, as did the appetizers. The chocolate milk was very good but both my kids' drinks came in strangely shaped ceramic mugs (not kid-friendly). The food arrived within a reasonable time and was tasty. Much to my dismay, we never had a chance to eat the desserts for which this place is famous. We placed our order after finishing our meals and 45 minutes we still did not have the desserts we ordered. From the moment we were seated until we finally received our desserts (which I had wrapped up to-go) was 2 hours and 10 minutes. If we had determined to stay and eat the desserts, this meal would have certainly neared the 2.5 hour mark which is a little nuts given we had other plans for the evening. Our reservations were at 4:30 p.m. so we were hardly at the peak of dining time. I can only imagine the horror of a Saturday night in this place. I simply would not recommend this unless you have several hours to kill and a lot of patience. If you're looking for kid friendly with great dessert selections, I'd go to the Cheesecake Factory across the street. Our entire meal was well over $200 for 2 adults and 2 kids, and it really wasn't worth it.
The restaurant was very crowded so we were packed in like sardines. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful, but we didn’t feel the food was worth the money. We loved the chocolate stout to drink and the kids liked their dessert. We were excited t go and expected more...
Food was excellent, service was terrible!!! Our food came out before our drinks and the server never brought us our appetizer, so requested they take it off the bill. We were running late for a show due to the service so no dessert (which was the whole reason we went) which disappointed the kids. I also had to ask for our check a few times. Again, the food was great just sad that everything else was so bad.
Our waiter was amazing. Food came out promptly... prob because you got no food. For the money we paid per dish we didn’t receive the proper food amount. My daughter had a bday dinner and 7 girls all ordered chicken fingers and received 2 each. Not worth the money at all. We all left hungry and we ordered dessert. Will never recommend or go back. It’s a shame because we loved the restaurant and our waiter!
Max Brenner Philadelphia was great! They did being my date the wrong meal, but they fixed it. They accidentally charged us for both meals, but fixed that as well, so we were pleased. Our waitress was super friendly. The food and the chocolate was amazing. I recommend the fondue! The only issue is how tightly packed a lot of the two-person tables are. I wish I had more room.
Food was fair at best, but I didn't really expect that it would be great. Thought we were there for the chocolate. It was my 8 year olds birthday and I thought she would like it. Well she did!. As an adult even the chocolate was just , OK. I expected the dessert to at least be amazing. Even my 10 year rated it a 2 out of 10! I would only go back for a kids special occasion.
Took my wife out on a date night which is rare for us since we have 2 little ones at home. The food was delicious and service was great but the seating was a little too intimate with those around us. I can see myself going back but may sit at the bar on an off night the next time around.
We were given a really weird seat in the corner almost on top of where they keep the booster seats. At first we were annoyed but then being that it was fight after v-day and the place was so crowded we decided that at least it was kind of private waaaaaay back there. The wings were delicious. We also got the s’mores dessert which was yummy. Also the cheesesteak waffle wasn’t too great but overall we were pleased. I had eaten here before but hubby hadn’t and saw a video about the desserts on YouTube so he wanted to come for his birthday. He wasn’t disappointed and he was still talking about the wings the next day! They need more entrees on the menu though. It was more limited for dinner than I expected. I have had lunch here before working downtown but never dinner.
The hostess crammed us next to a huge group where we could barely get into our seats and were greeted with a bad attitude when asked to move tables. The food was overpriced and bland. The drinks weren’t worth it either. The only good part was dessert which is all I can recommend this place for.
Chocolate drinks and desserts were outstanding! Well worth the trip! Entrees were good, but definitely came for the chocolate. Server was very good, but food took extended time to be served with very few other patrons present. Chocolate drinks and desserts were slightly overpriced for their value. Food was very overpriced for the value. Overall, very good experience for a couple the day before Valentines’s Day.
I come here for one thing, and one thing only, the Brenner burger! Never disappoints. The cramped seating and putting up with several noisy tables of 6 guests behind us the whole time and the long wait for the 2 bathrooms is always worth it. Usually pop in here early evening to fuel up before hitting various local dance spots.
While the food, drinks, and dessert was excellent, the service was spotty at best. We were greeted by one server named Cat, who was lovely. Then 10 minutes later while waiting for our drinks, another gentleman comes over and says he will be serving us and there was a "territory" battle. Had to start our ordering process all over again. He later told us that there was a "mishap" with the dessert drinks which was off-putting.
Additionally, there is only 2 single bathrooms for the entire restaurant which is far too few.
We didn't let this experience detract from our early V-day date. Would go back for drinks/dessert.
We were there Saturday for our granddaughter 16th birthday. Her and 6 of her friends sat at a high top and me, my husband and son sat at another table. The food was great, our waiter was awesome, very attentive. The kids had a great time as did we. Fun place. The burgers are excellent!!
We went after the Eagles Parade!! Food was good, but service was slow which was expected. Our waitress was terrible! It took 30 minutes for her to get our drinks after we ordered them. Once we had our food she never came back over. While we waited for her, we watched her walk in and out of the kitchen, hug and greet friends that came in the restaurant, and do everything and anything else to avoid checking in on us. Once we received the check, she was over quickly to run my card and return it and then never came back. After sitting for 10 minutes trying to get her attention, she finally looked over at our table and I had to flag her over. I asked her for change, for her tip because I prefer to give cash, and she had a huge attitude. She told me I could have asked anyone or went to the bar to get change. I did speak to the manager about her and when she saw me speaking to him, she ran away. I told her to come over, but clearly she knew she was wrong. As I was leaving, the manger walked over to speak with her.
Was really looking forward to celebrating my sons b-day. When we arrived the host said he didn’t have my reservation. After showing him my confirmation email he said he would seat us but we needed to split up. So we had three adults and 5 kids all around 10-14 in age. Instead of giving us two table close to each other they sat the kids all the way across the restaurant. Made no sense since there were two open tables next to mine the whole night. The waitress that waited on the kids made it known that she was aggravated that there was no adults at her table. I explained to her that I’m not sure why the host did that but I was not separating the kids since it was a birthday. After dealing w attitudes from the host and waitstaff and eating mediocre food I will not be returning. The dessert is the only thing that was worth it.
