Max Brenner - Union Square Ratings and Reviews
When we arrived this large restaurant was packed to the gills with teenagers waiting for tables. The waitstaff was courteous and tried their best to accommodate our reservation. The service and atmosphere were similar to what you'd expect at an Applebees. The desserts were inventive and fun, my kids and Mom were thrilled. My dessert tasted good but didn't seem especially fresh (chocolate tiramisu). The restaurant was very loud and a little dirty. I would go back again with kids for hot chocolate or treats during off hours.
My party arrived a few minutes behind schedule but we were seated immediately. Staff were quick and attentive. Food arrived in a timely manner and was tasteful and comforting. Had a great time and enjoyed the 90’s music throwbacks. Will most certainly dine here again!
I was really excited to go here as I love the chocolate! Everything that could go wrong did. I had to send the food back because it was not cooked properly, I was waiting a long time for food and I got attitude from the staff. The manager did let me keep the desert as I was just unhappy and wanted my check to leave. I still left a great tip as I know waitress don't make a lot of money and she was working hard it was busy. I will not visit again but I will still eat the chocolate!!
Amazing service and fun brunch options for the choxolate lovers and even those that prefer more traditional eats. The whole family enjoyed the friendly service and unique menu. Mac n cheese burger, chocolate pizza, and marshmallow crepe with gummy bears were favorites! Fun family brunch for a day in the city!
I come here at least every few months so I imagine I've already written a review before. This place always gives me, my friends, and my family a 10/10 experience. The menu is constantly updated and I appreciate the effort and creativity that goes into everything, from the menu's design to the cocktails to the decor. Service is always impeccable, whether during off-peak hours or evenings when there's a crowd at the front full of people hoping to get a table despite not booking a reservation. I've been here for birthdays, dinners right before screenings of classic movies at the Regal across the street, holiday get-togethers to catch up with people I haven't seen in ages, and more casual nights where a friend and I wonder, "where's a go-to that never fails?" This is such a special place, and I would say that even people far less sentimental than me would agree. This time around, I got a macchiato in a kangaroo cup (fun!) with the chocolate chunks pizza (yum! although very filling), while friends got the tea (very cute design) and appetizers (yummy and affordable). My favorite cocktail here is the White Chocolate Russian, and I recommend going to brunch here if you're a fan of fluffy pancakes and heavenly chocolate-based delights. Everyone -- from the host stand to those at the bar to the servers and bussers -- are outstandingly kind and are always without pretension. I very much appreciate the vibe here, and I want to thank the team here for another happy evening! Keep it up, guys!
I went there on a Sunday for Brunch and ordered the Hazelnut Hot Chocolate and the Napoleon French Toast. While the hot chocolate tasted really good, the presentation was not. I mean, the cup that they use to store the hot chocolate in, it's a oval shape saucer-ish cup. I spilled it when I accidentally brushed one end of it and it tipped forward. Plus, the waitress didn't give me a spoon for it (until I asked), so was I suppose to drink it through the smaller end of the "cup"?
The Napolean French Toast was very dry. While it's not burnt, it's still very hard (or crispy, if you will); not how French Toast should be.
My girlfriends and I took a short weekend trip to NY. While there, We decided to have brunch at Max Brenner. The food was lovely, but unfortunately we came on the wrong day. There was a birthday party for 35 screaming kids which made it hard to enjoy the rest of our meal. Outside of that, I would definitely recommend Max Brenner again.
My party was seated within 5 mins of arriving after having made our reservations 15 mins prior and arriving early. Place was packed and lively. Was seated next to a bunch of loud college students but it was a Late Saturday night in Union Square and with NYU around the block that's to be expected.
Was a good experience otherwise I'll be back again!
Very noisy and crowded place. You will have no privacy sitting down. Your chair will be few inches away from another person not in your party!!!!
Food was good, but nothing special about it. You can get similar food at many other places. I have table reserved, but I had to wait 30 min to get table!!!
frustratign experience at checkin .
made our rez thru open table for 2 - moments later i updated it to 4 - when we checked in we were told the rez was for 2 only - we were told to wait - almost 30 minutes later we still weren't seated . when we checked back in at hostess stand it showed our rez as a no show - the hostess didn't check us in properly we waited for nothing - the restaurant has plenty of available tables error by the hostess/restaurant - frustrating....
I've wanted to eat at Max Brenner's for a long time, and have been many times to buy chocolate syringes (which are absolutely delicious). When I finally went with my boyfriend, the experience was awful- the "table" I had reserved ended up being a communal booth, so we were wedged between other couples, all of us trying to talk over each other and the waiters having us shout to order our food. The food was fine, but the terrible atmosphere led the place to feel more like a chain restaurant than anything. I was expecting MUCH better. We didn't even want to stay for dessert (our original goal, because they have an impressive dessert menu) because it was so loud and hard to relax. Not good for a romantic night. Overwhelming dessert menu and underwhelming dinner menu. I might stop by for chocolate syringes in the future, but I will NEVER bother booking a "table" again.
It was all okay BUT even when I went to the hostess to ask about my reservation she said she'd 'check me in' so that she knows I'm here but then when I went to check again after waiting for 45 minutes they had completely lost my reservation and I was no longer in the system. My reservation was at 6:15 pm and it was already 7 pm and I was still waiting for a table meanwhile people who had reservations at 7:15 already were getting a table (even with the same amount of guests). The hostess there at the time wasn't very friendly and often times didn't even raise her head from the computer to greet any of the people infront of her. Not a good experience.
Everything was on par. The only thing I’d add is that they didn’t share with my server my request to sing Haply Birthday to my sister. I added this during my OT reservation but I had to ask my server in cognito, to make it happen. She was gracious and gave us a brownie with the sparkler she said if she had know it would have come with our dessert.)
Great place to Take family and friends. The ambience was fine and my kids really enjoyed it. The food was delicious and the word choices for everyone. The chocolate pizza was great and just with my kids were expecting. Look forward to coming back again soon.
The service was amazing! The food was even better!! Max Brenner is my go to spot with my boyfriend. It’s our favorite place. We always recommend it! We didn’t wait long for a food but our waiter still apologized and I told him we didn’t even notice! Such a great guy!
Loved this place and look forward to going back! Service was great! Our server, Irene, was wonderful. Great food choices and everything we ordered was wonderful! The hot chocolate is amazing!!! The only downside was the music was a bit too loud! Will definitely go back!
This place was absolutely amazing. My date loved it. It was my second time going but it was his first. He was in love with all the chocolate options and couldnt thank me enough for introducing him to this place. The service was great. The only thing I didnt like was the seating. It was not a comfortable spot to sit at, but the food made all of that go away. I highly recommend the mac and cheese to all the cheese lovers.
We came for the chocolate, and decided to try dinner as well. Our dessert was absolutely delicious, and the Chocolate White Russian I ordered was one of the best drinks I ever had. However, I originally was served the wrong order, and then was charged for that wrong order in addition to my correct order, which I had to wait the same amount of time for. Considering I ordered a salad, I don't think my order was expedited in the least. They corrected my bill, but I think between the slow service, wrong order, and incorrect bill, there could be some improvements in this restaurant.
