Max Brenner - Boston Ratings and Reviews
I have been to the one in New York City and was extremely excited to try the one in the Back Bay for restaurant week. I am happy that it was just as good if not better this time around. Great service and delicious food. I will be sure to go again and recommend more people to go!
When you add a slow kitchen, order mess-up (waiter wrote down one order incorrectly - which in any case was delivered to wrong table and had to be re-ordered and caught the mistake second time around) and mediocre food to unbearable volume, the result is an unpleasant dining experience.
While the food is either hit or miss, there is nothing left to be desired when it comes to their desserts. I don't often suggest this place for dinner but I almost never miss an opportunity to frequent it for desserts and drinks! Always looking forward to my next late night stop here!
The food was nothing special. Portions were a bit meager but the most notable was service. I dont remember how long we waited for our drinks, food, check and change but it was definitely long enough to have us wondering why everything was taking so long and straining our necks trying to find where our waiter was all the while. It was 2pm on a sunday and the place was half empty. The biggest thing that bothered me about this place was that i sepecifically came for the RW menu but I wasnt notified until i asked for the menu that the RW menu would not be available until 3. I wish they mentioned this when I made the reservation. The typical person would assume by 2 lunch would be well under way w/out restrictions. Very sneaky on their part!
Our waiter this visit was pretty clueless, with poor timing of apps and meal, which came out almost together. I'd have sent back the apps if I didn't know how amazing they are! Really fun atmosphere and the food is wonderful. Service was fine the first time we went.
My second time visiting Boston and I had to come back to this particular restaurant. The food was great and the service was quick. The waitress was knowledgeable about the drink selections. If you don't mind a little noise (I think it has to do with the acoustics in the room being round), it is a great place to try some interesting chocolate-infused entree selections.
I thought the place was under staffed and while ordering lunch the computer went down and the waiter couldn't bring us our drinks. Why wouldn't they just get the drinks and add to the bill later...we waited 15 minutes at lunch for drinks, and it took 10 minutes to get the check and another 10 minutes to get someoene to take the credit card....too slow and not worth the wait. The waiter was kind and nice but stretched too much and the people I took there said it's always slow....if you want a lunch crowd then speed it up!
The servers were great, and the desserts were fantastic. The normal food wasn't anything too spectacular, but still good. We had the Asian salad, which was quite good, but the chicken & goat cheese salad was just decent. The shakes are wonderful, as was the churro fondue. I had a dessert fondue on a previous trip, and was excellent.
Save room for the dessert fondue -- it's a lot of food.
Had two different experiences there recently, late-night eating at the bar and Sunday brunch. The former was excellent in every way, the latter was much more crowded and just okay. Standouts: the pizza and anything chocolate. They have one in Vegas, too, at Caesar's, which I actually like better.
Been here 2nd time, first time service was excellent. This time, the server was not as good. She didn't know my friend's drink about Sapphire which is Gin. Also we ordered fondue dark choco $25 sharing one, she gave us classic fondue not sharing $22 but not paying attention.
My experience was great. The food is good and the service was great. The kind of food is comfort food, bet there is always a twist that makes it different and memorable, and the platting is very creative and original. The deserts are great and the cocktails are awesome.
It's a young crowd that works at Max Brennar, very hip and fun. But the service was bad. The guys are in the back texting and on the phone. The girls are more pleasant. We had to keep waving our guy over to order or pick up our things from the table.
I think the fact that the restaurant is in the location that it is, attracting the people that it does, should have better service. The waiters should be more attentive to their customers.
The girl at the cash register in the gift shop was awesome however. She was very helpful in helping me pick out a gift for someone & super friendly!
Wait staff nice but clearly had no training other than push customers to buy drinks.
Food was substandard. The worst part was the desserts. For a restaurant purporting to be for chocolate lovers, it was disappointing to see the offering. Definitely not for connoisseurs! Just another mediocre restaurant chain.
Was extremely loud. Menus were confusing.
Desserts were not worth the price and were way over sized. We ordered the chocolate and marshmallow filled crepe for our 11 year old son and there was enough to feed all three of us. And this was on the kids dessert menu. And it cost like $13. We had also ordered a sunday for my wife and I and it was also huge.
I felt the chocolate was about average. It was not quality, just quantity.
I might recommend it for a one time thing for families but warn them of the size of the desserts.
I received wonderful service. The drinks, food, and desserts were really good. The critic I have is that the waitress was so attentive to the point where it felt like I was being rushed. She put our appetizers and entree in at the same time. The food came super quick before we could finish up the wings. Other than that, it was a great experience.
The food is delicious and concept is awesome. Our waiter was energetic and great but the food runners forgot silverware, didn't explain complicated dishes, and it was RIDICULOUSLY loud. Like...at a club loud. And we were supposedly at a quiet table...If that part were gone, the experience would have been a lot better!
This Max Brenner location is located in a vibrant and well traveled area of Boston, MA. The food and ambiance are wonderful. My family, my husband and two young adult children and I came to celebrate my husband's birthday. We all enjoyed ourselves and my daughter posted photos of the food on insta-gram! We will recommend the restaurant to all of our friends.
The atmosphere was great, not overdone but got the chocolate theme across. Service was good and we ordered lunch sharing appetizers to keep room for dessert. lunch items were all very good however we were disappointed in our chocolate fondue. While the presentation was beautiful none of the chocolate was warm for dipping just melted
Waiter was obnoxious and read the whole menu to us. S'more was expensive for a few marshmallows, graham crackers and chocalote. Fire went out too quickly and server wouldn't give us new fire. Outdoor heating went out too and the server also couldn't relight that. Bad experience, just stating the facts.
Food was decent - definitely overhyped by people. We ordered croquettes which were flavored well and tomato basil sandwich which was okay. Service was so slow for a Monday night. Our waiter did not greet or bring us water for about ten minutes of waiting. Overall, it was just alright. Will consider going back for just dessert though since that's what they are known for.
