Max Brenner - Boston Ratings and Reviews
We were only there for the desserts so I can’t say anything about the meals. We got the chocolate chip cookie pan with ice cream in top. The cookie was a little salty but still good. I got the Italian thick hot chocolate and my friend got the strawberry whites chocolate milk shake. Both were super heavy so be prepared for that.
We took our kids before a holiday show. Great staff, inventive and fun concept. Food quality was better than expected. Prices were on the high end for what you are getting but understandable given the gimmicky nature of the restaurant. Would definitely go back!
Fun spot for dates and such. The hot chocolate comes in these funky little ceramic gravy boat looking things but once you figure those out its a lot of fun. Fondue was excellent, would also recommend the waffle sandwiches. Walk-in's are hard around the winter holidays so make a reservation. They make pretty good use of their space but things can get a little cramped sometimes with staff buzzing around. Great first date kind of place.
This was a fun chocolatey spot - especially for the kids.
The service was friendly but the kitchen was incredibly slow - so slow that after repeated asks for help we still barely made it out with our food.
So that was tough - we had linked it with a theater reservation.
I would go again but plan on spending LOTS of time.
We were a group of 6 stuffed away in a tiny corner. We were there for a birthday and our waitress was amazing but everything else was terrible. I couldnt believe they stuck a big group in a corner with no room it was terrible. The food was horrible they got almost every meal wrong. The hot chocolates and dessert were cold by the time we got them. If we didnt have such a good waitress i would never return
I went to Max Brenner in NY, and i couldn't stop talking about it when i came back to Boston, and found out there was one here... i took my friends there for a Sunday brunch, and ordered the eggs benedict, it was terrible... the creme felt like it was damage and a friend of mine was enjoying his crepes SO much until he saw a BUG on it... we talk to the manager, and it was discounted, but anyway the experience was very bad and im sad that i actually had this experience here.
This place is overrated. We were a party of 5 are they stuck us on a table for 4 and put a chair at the end where there was little room for the servers or guests to get by. The guacamole appetizer was the worst I have ever had...watery and tasteless. The entrees were just okay, nothing special, and overpriced. We thought it would be like the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium at Universal Studios in Orlando, but it was nothing like it. Very disappointing!
Went here to celebrate my friend's birthday and we loved it. The lighting provided a lovely evening ambiance. A bit pricey, but the mac and cheese, salad, waffle fries, and cookie skillet we ordered were delicious. The drink menu was very unique, which was fun to try new things.
The idea is great, but not well executed. The service is REALLY BAD but it it is because the waiters are overworked, they never stopped but there were just too many tables for their capacity. You can see the restaurant is having problems, the menus are dirty, the food isn't great and we didn't even feel like ordering dessert since it was going to take so long even to order it.
Service was pretty good. The food was alright. We ordered the onion rings for an app and they came out cold and the waiter wasn't back till the food came out 25-30 min later. Dinner was delicious for both myself and my girlfriend. Desert was a bit disappointing, we had the churro fondue, which for $12 should come with more than 6 small churros which were quite tasteless. All in all, great place for dinner and drinks. Take desert somewhere else.
We waited 50 minutes for our food to arrive, and the order was wrong. My salad arrived without chicken. When the chicken was brought 20 minutes later, it was microwaved, grey, and slightly funky smelling. We did not even order dessert because we were honestly told it would take at least 20 minutes. We ordered pizza and burgers off the kids menu for our children. The pizza was worse than frozen pizza, and the burgers were lackluster. For $9 each, I expected better. The shakshouka tasted like the eggs were poached in Italian pasta sauce rather than in a spicy Mediterranean stew of tomatoes and peppers. This was a very disappointing experience!
Brought a friend here on a Sunday morning for brunch. So many places had a two hour wait so we were both pleasantly surprised but also questioning as to why there wasn't a long wait for this restaurant in the bustling Back Bay area. I made a reservation but there were many tables available at 11:00am. We looked at the menu ahead of time and it had options we both liked. Neither of us had heard of the restaurant before so we had no idea it was a chocolate-esque restaurant. I'm not a huge chocolate fan but there were still loads of options! I had the biscuits and gravy with a mushroom/sausage gravy. I preferred scrambled eggs that day so they were served on top. They also came with diced potatoes which were very good! My friend ordered the breakfast scrambler and ate the whole thing. No complaints. My 3 stars is mainly rating value, I thought all of it was a bit expensive for what you got. Especially the breakfast cocktails. $13 for one champagne glass of mimosa, nothing special about it? No thanks. Also, our service was truly just fair. She at times seemed like she was avoiding us, it took quite a while for our two dishes to come out, and while she didn't seem very busy with a ton of tables, she just wasn't very friendly or seemed excited about work at all. We said it was our first time here but she didn't go into any schpeel about the menu options or anything to tell us more. Just gave us more time to look. I was very disappointed because this was the last meal my friend would be having during her visit. I'll be choosing another restaurant next time I'm in the area for sure.
Delicious brunch on a Sunday morning. One of our party allergic to chocolate and had many options to choose from. Another member a vegetarian, same experience. Chocolate lovers in heaven. Each of us modified the standard order on the menu, and each came out just as requested.
For two customers should not be assigned to seat next to a big group of people like what happened to me and my friend. And I was celebrating my bday then. A little noisy. We were assigned to seat near the entrance first which was not a good one, so I asked for a different seat & was given next to a big group.
We went there for brunch. The service was unbelievably slow, even though it was not crowded. It took over 45 min for crepes and 2 of the 4 orders were prepared wrong and they had to remake them. I also received a phone call while we were in the restaurant asking if we would be arriving for our reservation we made through open table. The food was fair when we finally got it. There are too many options in Boston to go back.
We dined in the Back Bay area location with friends. We travelled to Boston from Philadelphia for a fun weekend. It was easy to make a Sunday brunch reservation online and we were very happy with the food and service. It was a yummy and enjoyable time. My omelette was fantastic and the home fries were browned and delicious. They were nice accompaniments to my bloody Mary! The hot chocolate my friend had made her very happy!
Perfect place for a middle school birthday party. Other than that, I wouldn’t go back.
Loud, SLOW service, unfriendly hostess We waited 30 minutes past our reservation time for a party of 4. Ugh.
Food was good but not good enough for me to go back considering all the other issues.
Took my two daughters, two of their friends, and my parents here for Northeastern's family weekend. Even though we had a group of 7 and showed up early to our reservation, we were welcomed and seated almost immediately. Food was great, atmosphere was a blast, and we had a great time. Special thanks to Jane for helping me arrange a reservation that worked with our schedule and our group size. We'll be back!!
My first sign should have been that this place was nearly empty for Sunday brunch. The service was extremely slow and absolutely terrible. It was as though none of the staff was trained in working at a restaurant. I could have forgiven the terrible service if the food was at least decent but unfortunately, that was not the case either.
Dinner service was running severely behind the dessert service. For about half an hour to 45 minutes no food came out for any of the tables. We had to order dessert before we got our entrees to make sure they would come in time.
If you want to visit, definitely come on a weekend for a better, and quieter, experience.
