It was very good. However, the fondue was pretty light on the fruit for dipping, so we ordered an extra serving of fruit. Also, the crepes were that good but the salad and pasta were terrific.
We never were helped once we sat down at the table. I used the restroom once we got there, came back to the table, sat there for longer than 20 minutes and no one even came to ask us what we wanted to drink. As we were getting up to put our jackets on to leave, I made eye contact with one of the employees standing in the back, not doing anything, and still nothing was said to us. This was at noon on Saturday and 3/4 of the tables were empty.
Wonderful food and amazing waitstaff that really seem to like their jobs and are plesent to chat with! Their food is nice and cheap, the most expensive seeming to be being a dish for two at $25.50! That dish is in fact their amazing chocolate fondue which is the kind of food that will break your brain with it's tastiness. Combine all of that with some lovely decorating and environment and an atmosphere of joy and you have a dining experience you wouldn't want to miss!
Our first visit to this restaurant . My daughter really wanted to go to celebrate her birthday .On my reservation , I stated that it was a birthday celebration . When we arrived, I also informed the hostess . She said she would let our server know. She told me that they put a sparkler candle in the dessert. At first we had a attentive waiter, but then he disappeared . We had to flag down the hostess to get service . People don’t go for the food (more dessert), but I was pleasantly surprised at the good salad I had- prepared to my liking . All of us liked our food. The BIG disappointment came at dessert time. The table next to us was celebrating a birthday as well. The candle came to them first. Soon after, my daughters dessert cake ( the birthday girl ) with NO candle or singing. I went to the hostess stand and told the same women that we flagged down earlier how our waiter dropped the ball! It turns out that she was the assistant. manager. She apologized , had a tiny bowl of ice cream with a candle sent to the table and credited our drinks . Nice, but I felt that it was truly a disappointment . Oh, and by the way, the chocolate wasn’t that great. Not rushing back
The food is always terrible (this time burnt and soggy -how?! flat bread pizza) and the service slow. If the kids didn't like the chocolate desserts so much I would never go back. This time they hated the food too (pasta and cheese pizza) and was able to convince them to eat elsewhere in future and come here only for dessert.
So disappointed, the restaurant was not clean, customers were sat on dirty seats with food on the floor
Sent back dirty glassware
Birthday brunch fun
We sat at a table, barely any room to squeeze in... waited 30 minutes and never got greeted. We got up and ate elsewhere.
Terrible from the service to our food to our drinks which had a hair in it. There was one server who barley come over didn’t give us plates never fulfilled additional request (ketchup, certain things on side) the breakfast burrito was dry with no flavor. The hair was the topping on the cake and so so disturbing after you finish a milky beverage. Never again and will never recommend
It was a very nice meal. The food was delicious. I got the chicken caprese sandwich with chocolate balsamic. It was pretty good, I would recommend it. The fries with bacon and cheese smacked, would deinitely Get again. I thought it was a little pricey for what it was in terms of entrees. But hey, it's downtown Boston.
The dessert was fantastic. All the dessert we had, which was many different things, were fantastic. Definitely get the fondue and syringe. The spicy hot chocolate was good, could've been spicier, still had a nice flavor.
The service was outstanding in all areas. Very personable and friendly staff.
Food was mediocre and not worth the price and service was terrible and it was not busy at all. Won’t be going back
Was here yesterday, and this was my 2nd time here with good friends and poor service. One of my friends was given carrots in her salad after she shared she was allergic to them and refused to be given another one. I was given my meal early while my friends and I were still eating an appetizer. I shared that we should have all our orders out together instead of one by one. I had my food sent back to the kitchen and received it cold when my friends orders were ready. I was really disappointed and embarrassed with this experience.
Desert was wonderful. First time there, and did not enjoy appetizers except fire roasted tomatoes. Will definitely return for fondue and desserts!
Very slow service but lovely dessert. A bit pricey but couldn’t fault the quality of the food. Would visit again.
I have always enjoyed Max Brenner in the past. This Sunday was much different. We had problems at the host staff with my reservation. We had a kind, but very new server. He told us 30 minutes in, after the whole table ordered, that they were out of French toast and pancakes at 10:30 am. The food, although tasty, came out very sporadically so that the guests were eating at different times. Also, my Mocha hot chocolate wasn’t even delivered in the special hug mug. I will think twice about returning to Max Brenner.
Food was good, desserts were just OK. I expected better.
The waitress Kaylah was terrible. She had zero personality. She knew it was my daughter’s birthday and made no effort to make her feel special- barely wished her a Happy Birthday.
She got one of the girls order wrong, the food was cold ( and it was not busy for noontime on a Saturday) she looked like she did not want to be there. When I tried to get her attention to get more napkins she looked totally put out. When she brought our dessert over with the “candle in it the sparkles burnt my daughter’s leg because she could not put it down and walk away fast enough- we will not be back.
The brunch is underwhelming. There was a large group of us celebrating a birthday and everyone was disappointed. The spiced bacon has too much seasoning which none of us liked. Service and getting the food was slow, I had requested the omelette without tomatoes and there ended up being a lot of tomatoes in the omelet to the point where it didn’t taste good and I couldn’t eat any of it. The restaurant wasn’t too busy so I’m not sure why the service and food weren’t good. The waitress could have been more attentive. The only highlight was the hot chocolate was excellent. Other than that I would not recommend Max Brenner for brunch.
The seating is pretty uncomfortable and the food and drinks is a bit overpriced. We went over the weekend and it was 5 different people’s birthday so it was loud and the waits were long for our drinks and food.
The chocolate martini is worth the wait and our waitress was very apologetic for how long we waited. They had to ask the kitchen to remake one of our meals because they forgot to make it. The desert is typically what I’d suggest people going to max Bs for
Food was very good. Myself and other person both had salads that were excellent. Kids pasta is creative with syringe but portion was tiny. The crepe dessert and hot chocolate were fantastic. Kids dessert pizza was just ok. Certainly room to make crust more appealing.
The service was very slow. Hard to tell if it was kitchen backed up, a server that had too many tables, or just a poor server. He seemed to be trying hard but didn't communicate what was causing the hold up. When our food came we had no setups so he brought over forks when we asked but no knives. When dessert came we had no utensils again, asked but took so long we took them off an adjacent table that another server was setting. He did apologize and said not to tip him (we still did because like I said he seemed to be trying).
The main reason I would not recommend is that I did not feel the restaurant was very clean. Inside the menu was dirty, the sugar container had food on it and the floor was dirty. Additionally, we sat on this 4 top table stuck in between the stairs and the lift. The side of the lift behind the railing for the second floor was directly behind two of the seats. It was absolutely disgusting and covered with grime and dust. Additionally, the bottom of the railing was grimy and dusty. And finally, the bathroom had not been checked and there was no paper towel, water on floor and counter, and overflowing trash. It wasn't that busy when were there (before 5pm) and there was 2-3 hosts standing up front not that busy.
Terrible service, rude waiter, terrible table. We arrived at about 1:10pm for our 1:30 reservation. They acted as if this were a problem despite there being numerous empty tables. We said we could wait as we knew we were early. Eventually we were seated in a table crammed in next to the handicap elevator. It was very narrow and the chairs could not be pushed in due to the pedestal under the table (not a good set up for 4 people including two young children ages 4 and 7) despite there being many larger and more comfortable tables open in the restaurant. Water was brought to the table, but never refilled after we finished our first glasses while perusing the menu. They were not very accommodating to allergy request for my allergic child and still brought the wrong item. My 7 year old did not get the corrected dish until everyone else at the table was finished and then they still brought the wrong side dish. When hot chocolate was brought to the table, my 4 yo pushed a menu towards it and it spilled. The waiter brought some napkins but did not offer to help clean up the mess. We ended up with a pile of soggy wet napkins on the table that were not removed throughout the meal. We had intended to get dessert, but were so disgusted with the service that we asked for the check and left.
This was my first time visit for my daughter’s 21st birthday. We visited with a couple of friends and it was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend
Chocolate cheesecake crepe was delicious!
The selection was versatile and unique. The service was very attentive. Food was visually pleasing and tasted delicious. Definitely will go back. So many things I want to try.
We love coming here! All of our food orders were delicious. We had a mix of brunch and lunch options - pizza, french toast, mac and cheese, salad. The cinnamon apple french toast was amazing! We got the fondu sampler dessert and tiramisu. Both were good, but the tiramisu cream was delicious. Mimosas and chocolate martinis were also delicious. Seating is a little tight/crowded.
A little too cramped and loud for my liking but great desserts
They are LGBT Allies! On my girlfriend and I's five year anniversary, they brought us a sparkler instead of yelling homophobic slurs like the last place we celebrated. 10/10 would recommend to gays and straights alike!
Food was outstanding
We were there for my daughter’s birthday. Had a lovely meal. They gave us a nice table away from crowds. The food is good. The desserts are amazing
Sweet 16 indicated on reservation and reminded host upon arrival to please sing happy birthday when dessert was delivered. Despite hearing several other people being sung to, they forgot us. Disappointing. Food was barely cleared before fondue came. I booked far in advance envisioning a different experience.
Restaurant honored the reservation on time for a group of 7. The server was polite, gave recommendations and offered prompt service. I had the salmon dish and salmon was slightly overcooked/dry, but otherwise good. Coworker’s burger, steak and Mac and cheese got good reviews- clean plates all around. I had a waffle for dessert and it could have fed 4 people! Check was delivered promptly. Would return if back in Boston.
We were the only ones there when it first opened, and our server was no where to be found most of the time.
While nothing was terrible, nothing was great. Everything was very average. Ok for groups with younger children because of the chocolate aspect (my daughter was very happy) but for adults, this is not a place to go.
Server was rude and didn’t check on us or ask how our food was. When we asked for a specific thing on our order he didn’t tell us it wouldn’t come like that and was rude to us when we asked about it when he brought out our order. The food was alright except for it not being what we ordered. By the end of dinner we had to ask another server to get our bill because our server had completely disappeared and we knew we weren’t going to leave anytime soon if we waited for him to come back and check on us. Food was highly priced for the quality of food we received.
Food tasted awful. Quality of their desserts is not the same anymore
The food was great! We would go back for the food for sure. Our service wasn’t that great. We had to keep tracking down server bc we wanted more drinks. She barely ever came back. We had to flag her down for the check which wasn’t easy.
The thing to go there for is the dessert. The chocolate is great and very good. The food is okay, almost like overpriced bar food and small portions though. The thing that really got me was the service here. Awful. I don’t know if the waitress was having a bad night or what, but she was horrible. We had a group of 8, but instead of taking all of our orders she took some orders and then disappeared for about 15 mins and then wouldn’t come back for another 15 mins. Some of us would be eating and others would just be waiting for her to come back. Not attentive at all. She didn’t bother to come and take our menus, fill our waters, clear our plates, ask us about the overall experience, or anything. We spent more time waiting for her than we did actually enjoying what Max Brenner has to offer. Please fix it.
Highly overrated. Got a reservation well in advance. there was hardly anyone there because it was the middle of the afternoon yet they seated us at a horrible table. I asked if we could change tables and they said no. The shake tasted like there was loose powder... Not mixed or dissolved good enough. The waiter was nowhere to be found when I needed him. Horrible experience. Would not recommend.
The food and drinks were excellent and our server was very respectful and managed to be very attentive while not being intrusive, it was a great spot for the end of our date night
