We had to get a reservation through Open Table because no one ever answered the telephone. I originally made a reservation for just my daughter and myself, but my husband and son unexpectedly came along, too. The hostess was very accommodating to switch our table from a 2-seater to a 4-seater table. The food was excellent! I'm not just talking about the desserts, either. I had a mixed vegetable side dish and the Brenner Burger, and they were all wonderful. Best burger I've had in ages! (I still had to eat the burger with a knife and fork, though, because it was too big for my mouth.). We had fun eating the s'mores chocolate dessert and the chocolate pizza. I also ordered Mexican hot chocolate--yummy! The one drawback to the place is the noise level; we had to yell at each other over the din.
Painfully slow service. We were there for 2.5 hours with 6 kids.
Had to leave the table on several occasions to seek out our server.
Salad not as described on the menu.
Restaurant didn’t seem very clean.
Went for my son’s birthday and was a lackluster experience to say the least. Even noted it in reservation, mentioned at checking in and NOTHING special was offered. Will concede it was Marathon Monday in Boston but the place was disheveled, unprepared, server was blah (when the festive city mood was so palpable) and I ordered a glass of Prosecco - was then told they were out of it...!? No substitution offered. Whatever. Food was actually fine and maybe the only redeeming thing about the whole experience. I should have paid more attention to other reviews and stayed away. We will never be back.
We had a reservation after the marathon. There was no toilet paper in any restroom stall and the trash was overflowing. The waiter was nice yet it took 15 minutes to get another coffee. We were there 90 minutes for what should have been 45 just due to speed of getting our order. Not the worst service ever but close. Note that regular coffee is $4 to refill so save your $$ and go elsewhere for an Italian mocha at the same price that is 100x better
Great unique desserts!
The front desk is super unhelpful. Probably the worst welcome we've received at a restaurant. Food was fairly ordinary so I dont get what the fuss is about. Would not recommend it and would definitely not venture there again.
We visited the day before Marathon Monday and were told there was a long wait for food, as a cook quit the night before. We stayed. The restaurant was maybe half full; the food was good but service was rather slow and bathrooms quite untidy. It seemed like they were very understaffed overall for such a busy weekend. Otherwise, we'd be inclined to recommend for the food and drink.
Very disappointed in Max Brenner's. It was recommended by a friend who used to live in Boston. Very slow service even though it wasn't busy when we got there. Food was way over priced for what you got. We went for brunch. My kids got milkshakes, which were pretty good but the rest of the food underwhelming. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and it came out cold but service was so slow he didn't say anything. For $16 it should have been a pretty damn good burrito. This was the only place we went for brunch in Boston and we're very sorry we chose it.
Good food, good service, good ambiance. Good veggie options.
Go for treats, dinner menu very so-so. Awesome place for out of town kids birthday visit.
I took my sister there to have a one-on-one time with her and we had an awesome time.
Great place to try. Food and service were both excellent. With all the great places to eat in Boston, tough sell for a second trip. Fun atmosphere with a cool menu makes MB worth a try.
We walked in and the host told us if we didn’t have a reservation, we could not be sat. There were several open tables all over the restaurant. We went on open table to look at other restaurants and saw that Max Brenner’s had openings. So we signed up. We went back to the boat and explained that we had made a reservation online, and he said that it didn’t matter we’d have to wait 1-2 hours.
After 10 minutes, while we stood outside to find another restaurant, he came out and said he moved things around for us.
The food was good, the waitress was amazing, accommodating, and fun. The environment was upbeat.
I just question why he would not seat us. It was Marathon weekend, but there were tables open, seats open at the bar, no one was waiting in the foyer, etc. We were 4 women, and an infant, (who was asleep.) We are lesbians, and that was apparent.
The experience was good otherwise. I would go back. Just something to think about.
The table we were at was very close to the next one, even my 6 year old daughter couldn’t get onto her chair without moving the table and asking the person behind her to move. Food came out slow but was delicious.
Slow as molasses service. We got there and waited 24 minutes for a drink order. Bathrooms a mess. Was total waste of time. Food wasn’t anything special especially for hunting it down!!
The service was excellent. The martini was not. the Cobb salad was excellent, but the desserts were not.
I put in my reservation that it was for a birthday but they clearly don't read that because our server didn't do anything for our table and the table next to us got a huge dessert with a candle and the entire staff singing. It was really disappointing and sad
Fantastic atmosphere. The price you pay for the potions was disappointing, small portions high prices.
Amazing food, drinks, desserts!!! Service was slow, but they were PACKED! It was loud, but a fun fun night.
Brought out of town friends to Max Brenners for brunch...our servers was very nice but food was very slow in getting out
Great for kids. The desserts are amazing
Another great experience at Max Brenner. We took our daughter there for her first dinner out in the city.
Lots of fun, food was awesome....it was a busy Saturday night and the staff was noticibly in the weeds.
Other than that all good. We like this spot and will be back.
This was a nice place to go for dessert, or after a show. Their main menu was nothing exciting, not to much caught my eye. It was a nice variety of dessert, and the presentation is what you pay for. I felt like Melting Pot has beeter food options, but this is the closes thing you'll get in the Boston.
Nice and affordable restaurant, the chocolate pizza is amazing and the service is great.
This is no reflection of our waitress at all, she was fantastic very friendly and attentive. She cannot control what comes out of the kitchen. However, the food here was absolutely terrible. Every meal to our table was gross, even our kids didn't want to eat it. My husband had to send back his burger because it was so raw. My sister had a cup of spaghetti sauce spilled on her pants, nothing was done. The waffle on one of the deserts was see thru it was so soaked in oil. The bathrooms were disgusting, so I asked the 3-4 waitresses standing around right outside the bathrooms if they could get some more paper towels and toilet paper for the bathroom, an hour later nobody had bothered. Overall, a very unpleasant $150 experience we will definitely not return.
The food is the best part about this place. It’s a little pricey, but the mac and cheese and desserts were stellar. Service was good, staff were kind, though it was pretty busy. Definetely worth the price, it’s so good!!
It was really good. Got dinner and dessert. Both. We’re delicious
We took our daughters here for their birthday and had no wait even though we showed up early for our reservation. This could be due to the fact that it was a Monday afternoon. Our food was delicious, especially the hot chocolate in the hugmug! I think it's a bit overpriced, though. We got salads and mac-n-cheese and it was $140. I get that it's Boston, but we paid $25 for a chocolate fondue that had marshmallows, brown banana pieces /over- ripe strawberries, and a couple of cookies. I guess we were paying for the experience of being at a chocolate bar. I think next time I would go for a drink, not lunch/dinner.
Good - service was on the slower side (both the wait to be greeted by the hostess and a slight delay in the wait for the food), but our waitress was very nice and attentive. Food was great. On the pricier side for what you get, but it's just par for the course for the neighborhood. Always a solid option, just didn't hit it out of the park that day.
Good food, good desserts. Pretty pricey though.
The food was ok, but the martini and chocolate fondue were amazing. Tables were very small and cramped. Server was very pleasant. Next time will just skip to dessert and drinks!
Hostess was very rude and condescending. Otherwise food and atmosphere was good
Our waitress was friendly and prompt and the service was good although after ordering our food, it seemed to take a long time to get it. Then the toppings we wanted were not on the flatbread, so they took it back, added the toppings, heated it again, and now it came back more "crispy", almost burnt, then I would have liked. Veggie burger was good. Both hot chocolates were lukewarm. The mug was hot, but the drink itself was lukewarm. Didn't bother telling them at this point. We were done. The place is looking like it needs a makeover. And the menus were kind of yucky, needed cleaning or new menus. We were there on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't loud at first, but then they started the music and it was getting busier, and I could see how it could get overwhelmingly loud. Won't be going back anytime soon.
We waiting for a bit to be seated as the restaurant was full! Which is a great sign of what was to come. While we also waited for our server to greet us and take our drink orders, once things started it was amazing. Great suggestions by our waitress and the celebration for our daughters birthday was priceless.
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was a lovely time. Food was OK, desserts were very cute and drinks were great! I'd come back for dessert/drinks but probably not dinner. Overall I enjoyed the ambiance of the place, and the prices weren't too bad.
instead of checking in my reso, they cancelled it instead.
i arrived checked in and waited at the bar. so when i went to the front desk to ask if my table was ready, they said i never checked in and cancelled it instead.
there were a lot of open seating so to get another table was not a problem, however they stuck us in a corner super compact so i asked for a seating upstairs but was declined saying those tables already have reservations on them.
so we settled for our table behind the hostess stand. to come to my attention a WALK IN party of 5 same party size as mine immediatly got a table upstairs. when confronting the hostess about it i was ignored.
so our waitress was also a mess of her own. we repeatedly asked for the same stuff over and over again. our main dishes came out first and we were midway finished then our apps came out. but thats the not worst part. our food was cold! we had to send it back twice.
in the end it was our friends bday and we asked for a candle when we ordered the dessert. the dessert came out and no candle. when confronting our waitress she goes oh it was a simple mistake.
soooo many mistakes; close to no effort to correct mistakes.
Food was great. The menu is diverse so everyone could find something. The flavors were good and the food wasn’t too heavy even though the descriptions made you think they may.
didnt know the difference between over hard and scrambled dry for our egg orders but they tried
Very different experience and lots of chocolate on their menu as expected. However, tables were small for a group of 5 people and service was hospitable but slow.
Chocolate martini was SO GOOD. Waffle fries were crunchy and delicious -- the perfect salt to balance out the sweet. Chocolate lava cake was amazing. All in all, I'll definitely go back and try more off the menu!
