Service was very slow and poor and bathroom was extremely dirty. Food was good but had to wait a while to receive salads.
Great chocolate restaurant. Service was attentive. Food yummy. Go for something light so you have room for the various desserts. We all enjoyed our meals and loved the desserts.
WE have been to Max Brenner for dessert and have always had a great time! This time we brought the kids to eat there after a show. The service was very bad. Our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive. The cocktail server that we had was quite friendly however we had walked a few miles and really needed at least water to start. Our waitress was not happy and was rude throughout the meal. We felt vey unwelcome and felt that we would not be back again in the future.
Horrible. Slow service. Half full milk shakes and terrible food overall.
Service was okay but slow, the food was so bad, it had to be sent back. With reservation, we were sat right by the door in a high traffic area where many people were waiting. Better ambiance in the back where the bathrooms are.
We've been to Max Brenner's before and loved everything about it. Unfortunately our most recent visit on Easter 2018 was a disaster. They were drastically understaffed. Although the waitstaff gave a valiant effort and certainly performed gracefully under pressure, we had a terrible overall experience.
We were seated at a table that required one of us to be in the aisle and in the way of the waitstaff. We waited an unacceptable amount of time to be approached by the waiter. I would have left if it wasn't Easter Sunday and had alternative options nearby. We waited an equally unacceptable time for our food to arrive. When the food did arrive it was cold and prepared incorrectly - My mother got her cheddar cheese on a side plate instead of melted on her eggs and my daughter got a rare hamburger instead of medium well.
I am very disappointed in Max Brenner's management and will not be returning, nor will I recommend this restaurant to others. Your waitstaff all deserve a bonuses since they struggled to keep up and suffered numerous rude comments and abrupt departures from many, many dissatisfied customers.
Would give it an all around 5 stars but they try to pack so many tables in to a small space as possible, it gets uncomfortable and annoying to bump into other people when you try to stand up out of your chair.
We celebrated my daughters birthday and they made it special for her and her group of friends. The waitress had great menu recommendations and was very accommodating all around. The hostess let us seat early when we arrived 45 mins early for our reservation (traveling from another state)which was very helpful . It was a perfect dinner experience there!
I have been there on several occasions and this last time has left a sour taste in my mouth. We reserved a table and were placed in the back of the restaurant near where dirty dishes are kept; the restuarnt was not full either! We ordered our drinks and food and the same time and they all came out at the same time! One of the guests in our party asked for onions instead of tomato on her sandwich and got fried onion rings??? Further, the description on the menu stated that they use an avocado paste and she got cut up avocado instead. This was just not the experience I was expecting as I have had good other ones.
Awesome food. The fondue is a must try
My thirteen year old daughter chose this restraint to celebrate her birthday. I never complain about resteraunts but our service was horrible. We waited an hour for our meals while everyone around us was seated and eating. My food and my daughters meals were cold, her friends was smoking hot. They ordered milk shakes and didn’t even get the signature cups! It was a total let down for them!
Not impressed. I made reservations for our family of 5, which included 3 kids. We drove about 40 minutes into the city, looking forward to all the great things to come. We got there about 10 minutes early and said that we would be seated in a couple minutes. We waited about 25 minutes for our table even though we had reservations. The kids loved their hot chocolates and fondue. One of our children ordered a chicken sandwich and it came out super dry. The experience was ok, but for the price and the drive from out of the city, I wasn’t overly impressed. I would possibly go back for dessert only.
A lot of fun. I expected HUGE portions, which in combination with the plentiful chocolate, had me concerned about how much food I might consume. But we enjoyed a really fun, tasty meal without feeling like we were stuffed beyond capacity. Plenty of food, to be sure! Given all the chocolate, the "regular" food items were still really good and not overwhelmingly chocolate.
Food was just ok not great. However, dessert was awesome!! It’s worth going justbfor the fondue
Like Disney land for chocolate. The kiddos (8 and 10) had a ball with the whimiscal menu and serving ideas.
Tons of fun and great food!!
I've been here for dessert several times. The atmosphere is fun and so is the menu, but the dessert itself is often disappointing. This time, the cookie in a skillet was not warm, pretty tasteless, and topped with low-quality ice cream.
Lovely place for brunch, nice and casual plus the food is very good. I just wish they had more options in the breakfast menu..
Made A reservation was seated really quick but waited for the waitress about 10-15 minutes the food was OK could be better the dessert was amazing
We took our daughter and 8 of her friends here for her 14th birthday. Making a reservation was easy and able to it online. The service and food were great with many options for people to choose. We chose this place for the yummy chocolate options for drinks and desert
We celebrated my daughters 16th birthday. Food was good and service was great.
Family in from out of town.
Our waiter seemed hard of hearing. He got a few of our orders wrong and put the appetizers to come with the meal. One of our guests had to leave at 8 and he ordered an appetizer 40 minutes prior. It still had not arrived at 8 and although the manager, Juan, said he wouldn’t be charged he still was. All of our service took forever and it was very frustrating that our server couldn’t seem to hear us either a) because of the loud music or b) he was hard of hearing or c) both. We asked for our food to be split checks and one of our friends walked the server through who had what and the checks still came out wrong. The whole ordeal took forever.
Bartender refused to make drink as requested. Took 75 minutes to get the drink. Manager was incompetent.
I had an issue with a food allergy that I felt at the time was not handled well. I have written to management and hope that it is addressed in the future.
Poor service. After being ignored for about 20 minutes, a hostess brought us some water. Once I spied the big blob of chocolate on my glass, we were out of there. It smelled great, but dirty dishes just don't cut it with me.
Great chocolate fondu!
Great place, the only problem is that the tables are a little tinny. It´s a crowded place, but it is also great. Would go anytime again
Always a great place to Celebrate!!
Total gimmick of a restaurant. Overpriced. Poor service. Many other better options.
it was great, we went three times in our one week in boston, however, we felt unwanted, a hassle if we didn't have a reservation, so we made one and they still didn't want to take us. When we were seated it took us to ask someone for attention for even water, we sat for 25 minutes before anyone came near us or made ey contact so we asked a busser.
It was underwhelming. Took forever to get a waitress over. She ended up being sweet but def. not worth it.
If you're planning to go celebrate your birthday or going on a date, don't waste your time. We had high expectations from the place but were really disappointed by the end.
The server took us to a corner table next to the bin. After requesting, they did not let us change tables even though there were at least 4-5 of them empty next to ours. The tables were still empty by the time we left. :(
We had ordered a hot chocolate with our order which never arrived and we were still charged for it in the check. I usually don't check the bill but I'm glad I did that night.
Mouse traps visI left throughout the dining room. Extremely slow service without apology, some would say rude. One meal didn’t arrive until the rest of our party had finished theirs and the waitress would disappear into the back for 20 minutes at a time. I will never go back to this location.
Brought the kids for lunch and wasn’t pleased with the whole experience. Slow service for not even being busy. Mouse traps all over the restaurant. Main course was basic. Dessert was great, but waited 35 mins. Waitress was friendly. Won’t be rushing back.
This restaurant was very short staffed. Our waitress was running from the hostess desk to every section. After bringing our food, she was never back to our table. We needed a utensil and additional drinks. When our bill came, It was incorrect. The food was overpriced was not very good. The coffee was not hot. All in all, a very disappointing experience.
It was my Daughters 15th birthday with 6 friends accommodations were perfect and waitress was great! The girls enjoyed the food and especially the chocolate fondue! Would definitely recommend checking it out
I love Max Brenner but I probably won't go back. I was disappointed with my experience there on Sunday night. It was a holiday weekend and we had a 9:45pm reservation, and the place was still very crowded when we got there. As always the food was delicious and I got what I expected.
For the uninitiated, Max Brenner is a marquee restaurant located on one of the most popular shopping and dining blocks in the city of Boston. It is not located in some out of the way suburb where the venue may or may not have customers until closing.
So. The coffee/ tea scene. I worked as a server for many years, and in all that time I had only a handful of tables NOT order coffee or an after dinner drink. So, when I ordered coffee at 10:45, I was surprised to hear that coffee was "eighty sixed." (Keep in mind that the bar was very much still open and busy.) When you have a busy restaurant that is open and serving until 11pm, coffee should not be "eighty sixed" at 10:30pm. "Eighty six" means you're out.
Restaurants don't run out of coffee, but servers run out of wanting to be at work.
There was also no tea available, so I settled for a glass of warm water. I know that having a late table can be the last thing you want at the end of a long shift- and had we been the only table in there, I would be a lot more understanding. But if you're a server at a busy restaurant on Boylston Street on a holiday weekend, you should expect to work and not try to clear out your entire section all at once.
One of the worst brunches I've ever had, couldn't finish my food as it was so disgusting. I ordered the Brenner eggs Benedict and they were terrible! The hollandaise was super sour, thin and runny, the black forest ham was full of nerves and the potatoes had been cooked in burnt oil. Seriously the only thing that was good wss the Italian hot chocolate, should have known better...
Just disappointed that we waited 20 minutes for the entree only to be told at the last minute that there were out of eggs and could not do the sunny side up eggs my wife had ordered. They didn't know that until the rest of the order came out? Waiter was nice and they took item off the bill but I can't recommend.
