Max 40 Ratings and Reviews
The food here is great and they ambiance is equally awesome. This is one of the more expensive restaurants in Danbury, but reasonably priced for the quality. Their menu is replete with steaks and seafood, but also has some chicken and Pizza for non-steak eaters. There is limited food for vegetarians and those who eat gluten free. The wine and bar choices are adequate. The service is attentive and helpful. Overall, this is one of the top steakhouses in Danbury.
Decided to try Max40 the Saturday night before New Years Eve. It was a most pleasant experience. Wait staff was attentive, we got a nice table, and our steaks were done to perfection. Even though this is not inexpensive, I consider it a good value for what you get.
You will not be disappointed with Max 40 - from the moment we stepped in until dessert and coffee it was an incredible experience. The atmosphere and ambience are quite different between the dining room and the bar area so just keep that in mind if you're looking for a quiet intimate dinner. We had a fish special bronzino that was delicious and a 10 ounce filet cooked perfectly. Wine choices were great. Overall a place that I would return to any night.
Entertained an important client and was very pleased with the entire experience. The atmosphere was perfect - upscale, but not too much so - the meals were outstanding. Two of our party had the 10 ounce filet - prepared perfectly with an appealing presentation. The third member of our party had the Veal Porterhouse and expressed how the taste was extraordinary. Rocco was our waiter, and during our entire visit was very attentive, thorough and knowledgeable. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert - but will try to save room for the next visit.
Pray you don't have Rocco as your waiter, the only time he comes to your table is to refill your cocktails. Normally, after your food comes out, your waiter would be there to ask how everything looks, if they need anything else, etc...he was no where to be found! We went here during restaurant week when Max 40 was listed as one of the places participating, he told us they were not offering the prefixed menu even though it was stated on their website that they were. Come to find out he only told us that so that he could get a larger tip, another table told us they got the prefixed menu from a different server. Not saying you shouldn't go here, the food is quite tasty, just request not to have him as your waiter!
I ordered the max 40 salad. Couldn't taste any dressing, there were barely any nuts, pears or cheese. Very disappointing. My husband ordered tuna and it was excellent. The waiter never asked if I needed more iced tea or water and both were empty on the end of the table.
My steak was drastically undercooked. I sent it back once, still undercooked, sent it back again, still undercooked.
There were 15 people in the dining room on a Wednesday night. There’s no excuse for a steakhouse to undercook my steak that severely in that context. It was still $150 for one app, a cocktail, two glasses of wine, and two entrees. The veg that came with my meal was asparagus - it’s October. There’s plenty of in season veg available right now that you don’t need to serve mushy, out of season veg. The food was nowhere near worth $150 for two people. It’s not worth the time.
Beautiful restaurant, however the food was lacking. Had the surf and turf special, the lobster tasted like talapia / too lemony. Also was crazy expensive at $60 a plate for very little food. Martini's were decent but had no body to them.. overall probably would not go back. Not worth it.
Our meal was excellent. The shellfish appetizers were fresh and expertly arranged on the plate.
We had surf & turf which was a very generous portion, fresh and nicely arranged; swordfish with lobster sauce that was tender, flavorful and fresh; and lastly ahai tuna that was slightly seared and just excellent. We will definitely go back for the food. The noise level was high but the food well worth the fare.
We love the steaks here. A friend who is not a meat lover ordered—and very much enjoyed—her salmon and citrus sauce
Unfortunately there was a large party celebrating a special occasion. Without a special banquet room the noise level was high and raucous. A real ambience spoiler
I find the sides disappointing. A steak house should have interesting side dishes.
Overall, disappointed in amount of food for the price. Ordered what was touted as one of their best dishes - sautéed shrimp and scallops with lobster sauce. Only 2 shrimp and 2 scallops served for a $30 entree - good amount of risotto, and light on the lobster sauce. Tasty, but way overpriced for the amount of food.
Pleasantly surprised. Started with clams casino cooked with a bit of bacon and just enough to retain their natural juices. The porterhouse for 2 was prime beef as advertised.. cooked perfectly as requested. The service was attentive and did not rush us. The only negative is a high noise level
This is probably our favorite restaurant in Danbury. Not a huge variety on the menu but it's definitely more than just a steakhouse. The chicken and pasta dishes are really good too. I'm not a seafood person but it family says it is excellent. Always fresh and well prepared.
Early on the Fourth of July the dining room was almost empty (a plus) allowed for a quiet meal. Waiter was very friendly and accommodating. Shrimp Scampi was very good, dry aged sirloin strip was excellent but I would have preferred a smaller portion. Would recommend to friends
Nice atmosphere and we were given a great round booth.
The menu is pricey and the steak salad, chicken Caesar salad and burgers that we ordered were good, but nothing I'd go back for.
The servers were attentive however two of the four meals were wrong and the two people who received their meals didn't want to start eating. The correct dinners arrived fairly quickly.
We'd probably go back after trying some of the other local places.
The food here is absolutely wonderful. My family and I love the seafood tower, and everything tastes fresh. Their meat is absolutely to die for. Their fish is really good also.
However, I am upset about my last visit on father's day. I had requested, through this site when I made my reservation, that they write "Happy Father's Day!" on the plate for dessert. It didn't happen. Now, this isn't a "make or break" situation, but for the money you pay, you would expect requests to be met, or at least acknowledged. If this decoration isn't possible, I would have preferred to have been notified.
Also, they charged me the wrong table, which had a higher bill than my own table. When I approached the waiter he was very sweet and explained to me the situation so I understood what had happened.
Overall, great food. I would still recommend.
First time staying in Danbury and was looking for an early dinner as I had not stopped for lunch. It was 5:30 and only 1/5 mile from my hotel. Looked at the menu and I was hooked. I was certain I was getting the filet but once I got there it was bigger than I could finish. So I ordered the half brick organic chicken with Rissoto and spinach. It was amazing! Coming back June 26 and ordering the filet!
