Maude's Liquor Bar Ratings and Reviews
I went with a group of girlfriends who had never been to Maude’s. We ordered several dishes to share. I ordered the steak Tartare which no one really wanted but everyone said it was their favorite. I hadn’t been there in several years but after Tuesday’s dinner I’ll be back sooner then later.
We waited 40 minutes before the waitress returned to take our drink and food order. Once she did she returned only once more during the meal and a third time when we asked for the check (technically also a fourth to deliver the check). Once we ordered our food it came out at break neck speed. The quality of the food was the saving grace. The escargot were delicious, the shrimp cocktail was good, but had one less shrimp than we were told (7 shrimp for two people we were told eight). The steak was delicious, cooked as ordered. The Brussels’s sprouts were a mix of well caramelized and delicious halves to undercooked halves, they were well seasoned. The wine list is limited and a bit over priced. Tables against the wall are close together, requiring they be moved when moving around them. The waitress for the table next to us kept bumping into me when tending to her table.
It is unlikely that we will return or recommend this place.
This place is gorgeous inside. The hosts at the front door were welcoming and asked our seating preference according to the noise level. The lower level is more noisy, bright and open than the second floor. The second floor is more quiet and intimate, and is darker with lower ceilings. We ordered and shared the steak tartare and it was fabulous. The drinks were awesome too. Highly recommended if you're in the area, but make a reservation!
Shareable French food! Most items are meant to be shared so the portions are generous. It's a great way to try a bunch of dishes. The menu is French, but they do their own twist on things like French onion soup served as a fondue without the broth so you get all the caramelized onion and cheesy goodness of the soup without the soup, just spread it on fresh baked bread. Other hits are the mussels and tuna tartare. If you're into cocktails have a whiskey smash.
There's nothing here I don't like!
It took 20 minutes for a server to come to our table. After that service was good. I had the fondue which was a plate of cheese/onions and seemed much more appropriate as an appetizer than a main meal. My son had a pork dish which was good but not outstanding. My daughter had the salmon which was great but very undercooked. Each of us had a drink, an appetizer and a main meal the total bill was $212. Not worth the expense.
Great food and amazing service. Would be a 5-star review, except... We had an 8:30 reservation on a Thursday and really never got seated. Decided to order at the bar, once seats opened up, after waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time. Staff really took care of us and appreciated our calm demeanor.
Maude's is one of my favorites but my friend had never been there and she was thrilled with it - what a great place for grazing. We only ordered salads [I think they serve the best Lyonnaise in the city] and sides and it completely felt like a meal. Of course the noise level is high -as it is almost everywhere. I had forgotten to ask for a table upstairs, which is often much quieter.
I took my wife here for our 1yr wedding anniversary. The food is always on point every time we come here. The only bad part of the visit was the waiter. When we explained to him that my wife and I aren't big drinkers but that we wanted some cocktails on the sweet side.
He made very poor recommendations. Didn't bother to explain any of the ingredients in the drinks. So we were left to our own devices. Luckily we made some pretty great random picks and everything was fine.
My wife and I split the chicken, which was incredible moist and delicious. It was already quartered so it was easy to share. We got the smashed potatoes too which also were great. Started with Massachusetts oysters. Great.
Service was very good and staff very friendly. We ate at 730 on a Saturday. Good crowd but didn't have to wait. Was busier by the time we left. Would definitely recommend for a good French meal
Friendly, accommodating staff. Arrived early for our reservation, were seated right away. Wait staff very attentive, we never had an empty glass. Great menu suggestions, even checked ingredient list upon request for dietary restrictions. The food was excellent! Would recommend to anyone looking for seafood or french food.
Took a group of 6 for a business dinner, one of whom was visiting from France. He ordered two dishes from the menu (sorry, I can't remember which two) that he said are specific to the region of France where his mother is from, and as he ate them he commented how great they tasted and said it reminded him of his childhood and as he spoke he was actually getting a little choked up. Never seen that type of reaction at a business dinner, so it was really nice. And of course, everyone LOVED the cocktails but that's pretty much a given at this place.
