Exceptional food, drink and service in a small beautiful space. A favorite on W Randolph. Highly recommend.
Cassoulet and chocolate mousse all day
Maude’s is one of our favorite restaurants. It has consistently excellent quality.
One of new favorites spots in all of Chicago- easily top 5. The food is on par with the fantastic specialty drinks.
I really can't wait to go back! We haven't had such a hard time deciding what to get as we did at Maude's. We wanted it all. The Steak Tartare, Mussels, and Roast Farm Chicken were all fantastic and we'd get all of them again. Cocktails were also delicious. I was surprised by the fact that the place was packed, yet I had no trouble hearing my husband, who was seated a good distance away (Library table). It was never too loud and this was a huge plus. The lighting was quite dark for those with bad eyes needing to read menus!
It's great. Go already. Upstairs is quieter than downstairs if that matters. Don't need to know anything else.
Great time, great food, bad parking but what can you do about that? Nothing. Uber and enjoy.
Maude's is consistently excellent. The fresh shellfish appetizers are great -- I love the shrimp which is so delicious and def not boring like most, and my friend always has an assortment of oysters. Their steak tartare is the best I've ever tasted. Lyonnaise salad is my fave, and love their cassoulet, chicken, and steak entrees. All are so perfectly cooked and the flavors outstanding. Wine list is small, but varied enough (the Chinon is very nice), and cocktails are wonderful (at least that's what my husband and dining companions say, as I'm not a cocktail person). The wait staff is personable, knowledgeable and friendly. We've been there often, and it's still one of our favorite restaurants.
Always a great time at Maude's! It never ceases to amaze!
My friends and I really enjoyed our dinner at Maud's. I ordered the burger and frites. Although very good, my one complaint would be that they were both a bit salty. I also wish they had more than just two desserts to choose from. Overall the food is really rich and heavy, but very good.
Food, service and ambiance were wonderful. We went on a friend’s recommendation and Maude’s did not disappoint; what a lovely evening!
good food, good service. I'd recommend to friends.
The food and ambiance was great, but our service was very poor. We were going to order much more food but felt ignored so we ended up walking to a place nearby.
Besides the salmon being a little undercooked, I'd go back without question. Great vibe, and fantastic value. Mussels are TO DIE FOR!!!
Fantastic as always. Everything was perfect, and our server was delightful. Thank you!
I scouted out Maude's through many reviews and it was just as described, romantic, great food, good cocktails, great service. The thing that a restaurant cannot really account for is the patrons. We were not able to get a reservation until 9:30 and unfortunately by 10:00pm the restaurant started to fill up with the bar crowd, which really changes the atmosphere, taking it from intimate and romantic to loud and sloppy. For the price and the exeperience promised by so many reviews I would say you should not make a dinner reservation after 9:00. The dinner crowd was sophisticated and most people in the restaurant appeared to be on dates. However, by 9:30- 10:00 pm it was filled with groups that were loud and there to drink. People were standing all around the bar and that just takes away from intimate conversation and romance.
I wanted to take my wife out for a special date night to celebrate, and had received a gift card for the Hogsalt restaurant group previously. One look at Maude's menu and I knew this would be the right place for us to enjoy ourselves. We were blown away by everything. We have traveled the world, including to France, and we were thoroughly impressed by Maude's menu of both French and "almost French" cuisine. We both ordered cocktails for starters (my Sazerac was superb), and then completely splurged on food, ordering several things to try and share with one another. The steak tartar was outstanding, the escargot was heavenly with just the right amount of garlic, the fries were crispy and delicious with the included aioli, the brussels sprouts were exquisite, and the pork paillard was everything I had hoped it would be from first glance and first bite (crispy, savory, flavorful, and with lots of complexity). And the creme brulee was the perfect finish to a stunning meal, creamy, crackly, and not too sweet. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful, and made our experience as wonderful as she could. When the bill came, we were stunned at how affordable everything was, despite the immense portions of food we received. As date nights go, this was an overwhelming success, and I would gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a decadent evening on a reasonable budget. Five stars, no question.
Our group had a great time! I would highly recommend this restaurant.
My girlfriend and I have our weekly date night at Maude's. Consistent, wide range of options and never disappoints. Highlights are Shaved Vegetable salad, Steak Tartare, Frites w/ aioli, escargot, shrimp cocktail, lentils, burger, steak, cassoulet--- I think I'm reciting their entire menu. Finish with chocolate mousse.
My partner and I had been out all day and we just wanted a steak late Sunday evening. The ribeye was great as usual and the shrimp cocktail is well worth the $18. While I liked the smashed potatoes I should’ve asked for an extra ramekin of the chicken jus as gravy is my favorite part of mashed potatoes, next time. Tom was a great server and we really enjoyed the chill, winding down atmosphere.
Excellent food and service. Good atmosphere. I liked the music.
Went to Maude's for a belated Valentine's Day. While the initial parking situation was painful the rest of the evening was awesome. Obviously nowhere to park, I noticed a valet next door, but it had the sign of the bar next door on it. But as I sat there waiting, somebody came to the car quickly. Atmosphere is great. Yes, tables are a bit too close, I chalked that up to a small space. Food was amazing. Had a few small plates and all were prepared well and presented well. We shared the steak which was incredible. I've been to every classic steak house and this one was as good as or better than every other one. Great food. Good evening.
The food was great. The Foie Gras is amazing, as is the brie. The lighting is extremely dim. Made it hard to see the menu but eventually got used to it.
Food was amazing and the mood was very sexy! Would be great for a date night
The service was as impeccable as the food.
The food at Maude's was delicious, as usual--especially the steak.
However, disappointingly, on this occasion the service was atrocious. Our server took a long time to approach our table. There was a significant wait (on a not-very-busy Sunday night) between courses, made worse by dirty dishes sitting on the table. At the end of the meal, we waited a long time for the bill after asking for it. Despite us being done with our entrees before the bill was delivered, those dishes were never cleared--we actually left the restaurant with dirty dishes on the table. All of this was made worse by us being able to watch our server spend most of his time standing at the bar talking with the bartender, his back to the dining room and his guests.
Furthermore, the fact that we were celebrating a special occasion (an anniversary) was noted in the reservation. No one said anything about it.
I had a wonderful time here. The food was great, the portions were surprisingly large, and there was a good variety of options and prices.
Ambience and food were excellent! Service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress gave us a lot of attitude throughout the night, we had to ask for water several times, she would bring it and then wouldn’t even pour it. We also had to wait 20 minutes to order dessert while she rolled silverware and she brought us our check without asking us if we would like another drink, which we did.
I liked this place the first time I went but after this experience for the amount we paid for dinner, I won’t be going back again.
Food and drinks were amazing. Service was attentive and professional. Best to go with a group and order lots to share - you won't want to miss anything on the menu.
The tartare is great. Service not great, but worth the price.
My salmon was undercooked, but the waiter was apologetic and took it back to get cooked more. He then took it off our bill. I thought that was very nice and makes me feel good about the experience.
Bartenders inattentive. Service slow and disinterested. Not what was expected.
It was incredible. Our server was awesome and patient while we decided on wine. The steak tartare and escargot were divine. The salmon was cooked perfectly. We had a great date night!
Expected a typical Bistro food, with staples and flavors that are pretty commonly known. Yet, surprisingly every dish had a twist and was interesting without losing the soul of classical bistro food. It hit the spot! The steak for instance, full of flavor enhancing the meat flavor by using their preparation technique, and not just grilling the meat. Nicely done!
Maude's Liquor Bar is within walking distance for us, and it has become a real favorite among so many great restaurants on Randolph Street. Consistently wonderful food, very large portions are nice for sharing, and the bar selections are excellent -- with some flavors that you don't ordinarily find. The only drawback for us is that it is very noisy -- something, alas, we've come to expect in restaurants. But the positives greatly outweigh that one negative! Worth a visit:-)
Food is reliably good and satisfying. We sat near the bar area rather than on the 2nd floor - it was a bit noisy but understandably so- would recommend seating on the 2nd floor.
I love the vibe in Maude’s - it’s beautiful, the food is delicious, and there’s always great mix of people eating there. The pomme frites with garlic aioli are so amazing, but so are the brussels, steak tartare, salmon, shaved vegetable salad, and the cocktails. I had both a St. Germain fizz and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc - all good. If I have one complaint, it’s that the bartenders aren’t the warmest of folks, and they were discussing the apparent challenge of attracting customers while I sat there.
Food was great. Drinks were great. Been there many times, but perhaps this last visit they were understaffed big time. Took a very long time to get the food, drinks, and even the water. A bit annoying at times, but having been there before I got over it after a few drinks.
food was absolutely fantastic. Although the room was really dark it's hard to see the menu
We really liked the décor, menu and service. The downstairs is very dark so we had to use our phones to read menu. A bigger candle on the table? The only real negative was that the music was so loud that people were shouting to be heard which made the room even louder. We heard the conversation from the tables around us whether we wanted to or not. They need to find a better balance for the noise level. You want music that sets the mood and masks the conversation but not so loud that the waiter has to yell and lean in closely to be heard. Not a very relaxing vibe.
