Matt's Red Rooster Grill is a BYOB restaurant. Owner and chef, Matt McPherson, is a local of New Jersey and keeps with the traditions of where he grew up by using only locally sourced ingredients. The centerpiece of the Red Rooster is the massive wood fire grill, which brings out the best flavor of signature dishes, including cedar-plank salmon, three-day baby back ribs and Matt's Red Rooster Grill's specialty: the wood-fired romaine heart.

Matt's Red Rooster Grill is located inside of a restored Victorian house. The elegant yet welcoming atmosphere makes every guest feel right at home. To see the master at work, diners can request the chef's table, a seating area perched above the kitchen that looks down on Matt and his team as they cook up a storm.

Matt's RRG is my favorite restaurant. I love that it's BYOB as it enables me to bring a nice bottle of wine or 2 along.
Plenty of good wine stores in the vicinity.
I take my fussy 87 yearly Dad here for his birthday every year and he really enjoys it, which is saying a lot!
The food is always great.
The Manager, Stephan, is the best! He always adds a lot to our enjoyment of the evening.

Matt's never disappoints. The food is always innovative, well-prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. We have our standard favorites--the grilled romaine salad and goat cheese tart are among our favorites starters, but there is always a new offering if we are in the mood to try something new. I think by this time we have sampled every entree on the menu and have never been disappointed. This past weekend we enjoyed the pork tenderloin and the tuna. The service is always flawless--staff is engaging, friendly and very professional. We love introducing Matt's to our friends. No one is ever disappointed!

You always know that you will get an amazing meal with outstanding service at Matt's, but somehow they always seem to outdo themselves each time we go. Not only are the menu options amazing and ever-changing, they will customize your selection to meet your wants. We can't wait for our next "excuse" to find a babysitter and get back for another amazing meal - although it's our 8 year old's favorite restaurant too!

This was our first time and we all enjoyed the food except my wife's risotto was served cold. The service was quite polished and well paced. The place is very nice with 2 floor dining. It was all but impossible to hear anyone speaking at our table due to the excessive noise level on the 2nd floor. This became very distracting and is a shame as all other aspects of the restaurant were very positive. I don't know what they can do about this but I'm not sure if we'll be back as a result.

We celebrated our 55th anniversary with a couple that we met on our honeymoon. The food and service was wonderful and only after 2 hours were we encouraged to leave even though there were many people waiting for tables.

We were looking for somewhere we had not tried to celebrate our anniversary. What a delicious find in Flemington! If you are north or east of Bridgewater, force yourself to drive west on the 202 just for dinner or add in a shopping excursion before to Liberty Village and the other offerings in that area. Matt's Red Rooster offers a great selection served up by a superb wait staff in front of an open kitchen with crackling fire. The setting downstairs does make for a noisier, yet lively ambiance. The tables for two layout puts you close to other tandem diners, but we in no way felt intruded upon. I had the greens salad and chicken entree. The salad dressing and chicken sauce elevated these basic items to very flavorful heights. My husband had their famed grilled romaine salad and filet. The salad was a wonderful, tasty surprise and the tender steak topped with a bleu cheese crust was done just right. The waiter told us their steaks can be done with any of their sauces. We shared their seasonal eggnog cheesecake for dessert. Yummy! The coffee was also excellent. BYOB. Make your reservation a week ahead for weekend dinner times to ensure you get the time you want. They were very busy on a Saturday night, but we never were rushed at all. Make your reservation for an earlier time if you want to come in and be seated immediately. We had a 5:30 and were able to go right to the table. It looked like later diners sometimes had to wait a few minutes. If you have to wait, be patient, it is worth it.

This was a very good restaurant. We enjoyed our table, server and even food. But this place is rated as one of the best in centrl jersey. I found it underwhelming.

Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like it was overpriced or poor in any fashion. I enjoyed my dinner and service and the ambiance was vibrant and enjoyable. But based on the reviews and ratings, I was unimpressed by the food.

The Brie tart was delicious. The Grilled and Chilled Shrimp Cocktail with spicy Cocktail sauce was average and not spicy.
The steak was surprisingly poor. Seemed well done as opposed to medium.

In any respect. I wouldn't say don't go. Just lower your expectations.

When I received the email from Open Table asking the question how was Matt's Red Rooster Grill, the only thing I could think to say was, 'it was just ok'. I was disappointed, the food was nothing to write home about outside the chicken and waffles appetizer which my husband loved. He also had the striped bass with the lemon beurre blanc and crab meat which he dubbed the worse striped bass he ever had. It was what I think a lovely piece of fish drowning in a very heavy sauce and an unappetizing presentation. I was actually taken back when it was served. I could not decide on an entree so I just ordered appetizers, the soup special, the tuna served 2 ways and the goat cheese and onion tart. The soup and tuna were good, not great. The tart was actually very good, but heavy. We shared the creme brûlée for dessert which was very good. We probably will not return.

We have been to Matts before a had a great experience. We live 35 minutes away so it is a commitment for us to get there. We had special plans to celebrate New Years with friends. We arrived for our reservation at 7:30 and waited for an hour in their cold doorway. They brought us a complimentary appetizer that was awkward because there was no place to put it down and like I said we were right next to the door and still had our coats on. When we finally sat there was no water on our table or the wine that they had decanted for us u til we asked for it. The food was mediocre. Not as good as I remembered. I really enjoyed it the first time so may try again, but not sure.

The service was outstanding and they were very open to a few special requests.

The appetizers are a bit small but we ordered 4 for 5 adults and it was perfect as we didn't
spoil our appetites for the generous entrees.

The chicken dish and the striped bass were the stars of the evening. The risotto was outstanding in flavor but could have been hotter. The truffle sous vide NY Strip tasted outstanding but also could have been a little hotter. But we didn't send anything back as it tasted so good.

We had a 6 month old baby with us, who fortunately, was very good. Matt's placed us at a table in the corner with some privacy for a nursing mother without asking.

I will be back again for sure and would recommend this place to anyone for any occasion.

From start to finish, you can't go wrong with Matt. The staff is professional, the die for! It doesn't get any better. Whether for a date night or a larger group, the ambiance is great and the ever changing menu can appeal to everyone.

For "small town" dining, you will be blown away by the tremendous service you will receive. True professionals, who make the dining experience that much better!

Tips- if you are dining with individuals who struggle with hearing conversation in a loud atmosphere, ask to be seated upstairs!

Book your reservations in advance, and come hungry! You won't be disappointed.
