Matt's in the Market Ratings and Reviews
I had the Cobb Salad and it was not at all what I expected. It came with an entire head's worth of whole lettuce leaves heaped up and almost entirely covering the plate. There were 2 deviled eggs (lots of mayo) and a tiny blob of chicken salad (lots of mayo). There were some crisp bacon pieces on the very top of the lettuce mountain. I had opted out of the blue cheese. I guess my point is, the salad was not very appetizing. The service was very good and the ambiance is very good.
I ordered the special, Bulgogi Beef Bowl. It looked delicious with vegetables and a fried egg on top. I cut into the egg to let the yolk ooze out and mixed it with the rice and vegetables. Unfortunately, when I cut into the steak, it was raw. Not rare, which I like, but raw. The waitress agreed and took my bowl back to the kitchen. I have to say that I was
disappointed that a new properly cooked bowl was not brought back to me. Instead the original bowl, now cold, was brought back with the meat that had been picked out of it and cooked more, lying on top. I expected more from this place, where I have enjoyed many meals. On a positive note, the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful.
Matt's is a great spot for seafood in the market. We had the seared scallops, seafood stew, and the cheese plate. The seared scallops were the star, for sure, amazing flavor and texture. Portion sizes were larger than expected. Overall, a great dining experience.
I've been to Matt's many times and love the ambiance. However, our server was TERRIBLE. we ordered chips and dip which never came. I mentioned it when the lunch came (we weren't checked on in the 20 minutes we waited) and he said oh, right.. then came back and blamed the kitchen. No make good. he then didn't come back until he brought the bill. Disappointing. Food was good as usual.
Matt's is a very cool dining experience. It feels almost like a train station inside. It is, however, very small and I would recommend making a reservation. I do also think they have weird hours so I would check before going. The food was pretty quick to come out and was overall exactly what we expected. Great food for a fairly good price. Ask for a seat by the window so you can admire the beautiful Pike's Place Market. If you don't get a window seat, its still fun to watch the kitchen area. Would recommend Pike's for a birthday lunch (with co-workers during the day) or to bring out of town visitors. Seemed like there were either tourists or business people there when we went on a Friday at noon.
Amazing...amazing...and amazing. That is how we remember this wonderful tasty lunch we had. The deviled eggs were what brought us here and YES, they deliver on every count of appealing, unique and oh-so-tasty. The clam and mussels are the BOMB. Get it, if you get nothing else this dish pleases the palate. The Fishwich would be the star if we weren't already awed by the clam/mussel dish. It stands alone as the best tasting fish sandwich I've had. As a New Englander who grew up on fish, the sandwich is perfecto!
Matt's is a favorite of my whole family. We love the atmosphere and the lunch chef never fails to wow and astound us with innovative specials that always feel more like comfort food than fine dining. My wife loves the energetic buzz that always takes the mood to a new level and makes Matt's a premier destination for all occasions from an afternoon at the market to an anniversary treat!
Matt's in the Market is an elegant, romantic hole-in-the-wall spot with a gorgeous view. I've seen many business dinners held here and wouldn't hesitate to host my own, but the overall atmosphere is on the wavelength of romance. Think less "first date" and more anniversary with the significant other you love and know well. The oysters, wine, and main dishes are excellent. I also really enjoyed the cheese platter. The service is heartwarming and attentive.
However, the only downside to Matt's: the deserts! I tried the Candy Bar Square and Mexican Street Corn with my S.O., and both were unbearably sweet and remarkably salty - nauseatingly so. Usually desert is desert, like pizza is pizza - even when it's bad, it's pretty good. (Some would say this about sex, too.) But when it comes to Matt’s in the Market, this is not the case. Save your sweet tooth for after you get the check.
Matt's is my absolute favorite spot for lunch in Seattle. There's a reason they've been around as long as they have, and it's the combination of location, food, service, and consistence. Dinner is impeccable too, but there's nothing like being just above the hustle of the market in a sun filled room with a glass of wine in the middle of the day to make me feel like I'm on vacation for an hour or two. Freshest ingredients, highest standards, best staff.
Menu was limited but quite good. We had one of the best cooked pieces of halibut we have ever had. It has an amazing location in Pike’s Place Market and its nice casual environment was friendly. The pricing is steep but you are paying for location and very fresh ingredients.
Welcoming staff and very accommodating. Servers went out of their way to provide a great experience. Excellent view of Pike Place Market - especially the corner table in the back. Food is delicious, so Matt's has the whole package. Highly recommend for out of town visitors.
Matt's is a favorite lunch spot in the market. Great perch for a view of the market and beyond. Tons of great light from huge historic arched windows. No pretensions, just great fresh seasonal food and a lively atmosphere. Also lovely spot for a drink and watching the sunset in the evening.
I went to Matt's my last night in Seattle. It was my birthday. I had high expectations, they were not met unfortunately. I must have missed something because the place came highly recommended. It seems good for a date night, or girls' night out, but it is not kid friendly, and I had my 4 year old son with me. The food was fine, but did not seem extraordinary. It is an expensive place. The service was efficient, but not the most friendly I've ever had.
Good food, lousy service!!! We made a 1:45 PM lunch reservation and we were not seated until 2:05 PM . Matt's clearly overbooked!!! We first ordered a cocktail and appetizer. We finished with the appetizer and cocktail about 2:20 PM. Shortly thereafter we ordered our entrees. We were half finished eating our entrees when the wait staff began hurriedly clearing the bar and all the tables. We clearly got the message it was time to leave which we did after having our waitress box the half of our lunch. We were the last patrons to leave !!! In our dining out experience over many years we have never had such an unwelcoming experience and would never return to Matt's!!!
