Unfortunately, we had a bad experience. We’ve been wanting to go to this restaurant for a few years now and finally had the opportunity. We had a show at the 5th that started at 7:30pm. Our reservation was at 5:45pm. A hour and 15 minutes should be plenty of time for a nice dinner and allow a comfortable amount of time to get to our venue. We were also celebrating my birthday.
The dinner started off normal. We decided to try several items on the menu. An appetizer, salad, and entree. The appetizer and salad came out in a timely manner. Then they tried to serve the same salad again. After we let them know we already received one it took another 1/2 hr to get our entree. So the 1/2 hour on top of the time they were making the second salad...I would say it was a good 45 minutes.
The server (I don’t remember his name) was not very attentive. No attention was given to us about the mix up. At 7pm we finally had to mention that we needed to leave for a 7:30 show. He apologized and said he was unaware. I find this inexcusable as we had waited 45 minutes for our entree. It shouldn’t matter that we had a show at 7:30. He said it would be right out. We had 5 minutes to eat our food, get the check, and leave.
For the price point I am very disappointed with the service and excuses we received. The food was good but the experience was awful therefore leaves a terrible taste in my mouth.
Food was amazing, service was not so great, friendly server but repeatedly interrupted conversations just to check in on everything every 15 minutes or so and had a lot to say each time or just seemed to want to chat. Made the conversation at the table with friends tough to keep going.
Lunchtime at Matt’s is fairly loud and energetic. Quite different from the more subdued evenings. The food is spot on as usual, but be prepared for only a few selections in the afternoon as the lunch menus is slim.
The cool d sandwich with bacon was amazing and a friend had the beef cheek cheesesteak and said it also was delicious. Brussels sprouts were slightly oily but still very good. Highly recommended.
my favorite restaurant. food is always delicious!
Great food, great atmosphere. Must see location. A+
Great food, location, food and views. Staff are friendly and helpful.
We had been to Matt's in the Market before, and my husband and I wanted to pay one last visit for lunch before we move out of state. The food was good as always, and the staff was very friendly.
The only thing we wish was different this time was that we waited forever for our dessert (apple pie). We appreciate how it's baked to order, but we waited quite a bit and it would've been nice if our server gave us a heads up on how long it'd take so that we wouldn't have had to finish our coffee before the pie even arrived.
Everything was tasty, though!
No complaints at all, wonderful all around experience
The clams and mussels dish was outstanding! Best I’ve had!
Everything was wonderful and purposefully done.
The fish stew is the best I have had, other than bouillabaisse in Marseille.
My first visit to Seattle and first day meal out to any Seattle restaurant. Bars set very high now! Good service, nice ambience and delicious meal. I had the clams and mussels broth with croutons and a glass of bubbles. Sat by the window facing the Farmers market main entrance and enjoyed the sun on a chilly day like today. Hope to visit again!
Wonderful bread pudding and drinks, attentive server, and lively atmosphere.
no one greeted us. we finally were sat and then ignored. they have raised the prices significantly. the staff was awkward and or rude depending on the person. This used to be a fantastic place and something changed in the last year.
A charming place with impeccable service and delicious, imaginative food. Matt’s was recommended by a friend who lived in Seattle as the place to go during our one night layover. Great advice!
Consistently good!!! Love the Cobb salad!! Great location in the market.
Visiting Seattle, we found out about Matt's in the Market via the internet. Thank goodness we made reservations! Amazing view of Pike Place Market entrance and delicious food; we had the Brussel Sprouts appetizer and Fish Sandwich with Halibut. Excellent team service. Definitely revisit next time in Seattle.
Always a treat. Great wine with creative menu. Attentive service and in the Market.
Matt Fortner—the chef—puts out some of the best dishes in the city.
Excellent food and service.
My husband and I have been going to Matt’s for 7 years. Specifically, we have a tradition of staying at the Four Seasons (where we were married) and going to Matt’s for our wedding anniversary. We have had mainly good service.. however, the last two years we have been, there has been horrible service. I’ll spare you the details but I will say that we requested “our table” months in advance and we were seated next to the kitchen in a two top under bright lights. When I kindly asked to be moved closer to the table we requested he laughed in a catty way and told me they were the kind of restaurant that was “booked every night”. All in all.. they were acting extremely pretentious and the food was mediocre at best. Duck was rubbery and bass was dry. Sadly, we will not be going back.
With a view that looks out right over Pike Place Market's neon sign, Matt's hit all the right notes for me. I was looking for a memorable lunch spot for me & my sister, both of us either live now or have lived there. The food was more than solid for the price point and it definitely made us feel right in the middle of one of our favorite places in town. Worth a visit for anyone debating it.
Matt’s in the Market is very good food, service is adequate, but the prices are off the charts for the food, service, and atmosphere (austere environment). We enjoyed our evening, but way too expensive. The wine list doesn’t have any values on it at all and they couldn’t even recommend a single “value” buy for a bottle of white.
Ceviche and Crab Cakes we’re perfectly prepared. Great wine list. A very “Seattle”experience! Chef and servers aimed to please.
Still a Seattle classic in a beautiful location. Great ambiance, perfectly prepared food. Prices have definitely gone up...almost nothing substantial under $30, and many over $40.
Always one of the best restaurants in Seattle.
We really enjoyed the food, the ambiance & the view. All the servers were very friendly, experienced and helpful. The deviled eggs were delicious & different. My husband had the clams and mussels. They were perfectly done & the chorizo added a very positive taste to them. I had the scallops. They were beautifully browned and tender. The romanesco & cauliflower that accompanied the scallops were no less than perfect. So happy to have finally tried this restaurant! We will be back!
New job celebration
We had a great dinner and the service was outstanding!
Matt's was great overall. Service was high quality and our server's recommendation for meals were spot on.
Excellent meal and wonderful charming location overlooking the pike place market sign.
I went here with a few friends on a Saturday evening. Being tourists, we liked that they sat us at a table overlooking Pike's Place Market. Service was good, especially the sommelier (we like wine). We shared the meat and cheese samplers to start, and they were extremely good. We had the salmon, seafood stew and scallops as entrees, and all 3 were also very good. While fairly expensive in absolute terms, it's cheaper than other restaurants in their class so we were happy there. Overall, a very pleasant evening with good food and wine.
Outstanding food, served with a view of the Pike Place Market sign in front of the Ferris wheel. Doesn't get any more iconic than that. The seared fois gras, and the seared scallops were the highlights of the evening. OK, the sauteed chanterelles (a side to the scallops) were clearly over-salted, which was a bit unfortunate, but didn't take away much from a wonderful evening.
Matt's in the Market was great! The food and service was top notch. Pricy, but worth it for the ambience and the spectacular meal. Thank you so much!
One of our favorites in Seattle. Perfect for a special occasion. Super great service, excellent wine list and wonderfully delicious food. We shared the simple green salad which could not have been better, and I had the stripped bass and my spouse had the seared scallops and we shared an excellent bottle of Chablis. We also each had a desert - both were amazing. Splendid evening.
Seattle dining at its best. 50 characters, 50 chara
