Matteo's Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
Wow in some ways much better then last time and other areas it was SO BAD! The BAD wins out again but there were a few rays of hope but not enough.
Who ever feels super garlic and overly spicy dipping sauce for bread should over power the whole meal needs to rethink things!
Why with a very good salad do you get served croutons you find on a Kroger salad bar? Small, hard and zero help to the meal.
Then the big one, dropping great ingredients for lesser ones that just don’t work. Example: Before Prosciutto thinly cut, flavorful, salty just brilliant. Now HAM. Thick sliced , no flavor and just not good.
Stop thinking of you profits serve the best food for the money as Ham is a crap replacement for Prosciutto. Have some integrity improve your dishes not just see what you can get by with!
We love Matteo's and enjoy their cozy atmosphere and amazing food. My husband I and split the 4 meat lasagna, with a terrific glass of a nice blend from Tuscany. The waiter was fun and took special care with my severe shellfish allergy. This is one of our favorites!
Interesting evening... as we walked up there were 3 people outside. On man was eating spaghetti off another mans chest while the lady watched. They were quite loud. Upon entering we realized there was a film crew inside watch out the window for a prank type show. 20 minutes later police arrived and show over. Some guests were very upset over the entire thing. I am guessing not your typical night here.
I was disappointed in that I had 6:30 pm reservations, yet, when we arrived at 6:30 pm, we were told that there was no table available. We had about a 15-20 minute wait. My question is: why did I bother to make a reservation if they weren't going to hold a table?
Had a coupon from Birthday Pack, so decided to go. Made a reservation, but table wasn't ready when we got there (not a big deal, but noteable). Another couple was waiting, had walked in right before us (also had a reservation, but don't know if it was for same time or not). Was seated, wait staff came by pretty quickly. Everyone seemed to be rushed. The other couple was finally seated (right next to us, in fact). I think the manager or owner actually took care of them as they didn't have anyone else come over right away. Anyway, we both ordered a cesaer salad; price was a bit high for a "side salad", but serving size was pretty good. Could have used a bit more dressing for my taste. My husband ordered the Pollo Amore; said it was very good, large portion size. Said he would order again. I ordered the Penne Norcia; huge amount of pasta, very good. Nice amount of sauce. Should have taken some of it home, but finished the whole thing and was stuffed. Noise level was louder than we preferred. Staff really did seem stressed. Will go back, but maybe not on a Saturday night.
Really neat to have this place tucked into downtown Noblesville. Our first time and overall it was good. However, I would say that we both had the polo amore and both of us thought it was bland. I really never salt or pepper my food and had to in order for it to have test. Cooked well and good quality - just could barely taste the marsala wine in it.
Normally my favorite Italian restaurant, but tonight I was disappointed. The service was slow and inattentive. They can't seam to get my requested martini right, others were served bread first who were seated after us. The wine recordation was way off base.
The sausage lasagna was wonderful as well as the chop salad. Hate to give low rating because of service, but that is what happened.
We were very excited to eat at this restaurant that we drove 45 minutes from Beech Grove for an 8pm reservation on a Tuesday evening. We got seated at 8:05 and after no one greeted, looked, approached, or came to our table for over 30 minutes. We finally got up and left at 8:35pm. We were very disappointed since we were scoping this out for our rehearsal dinner. I am not sure if they were understaffed or what but it was extremely rude no one even approached us to apologize or let us know they were busy. We will not be returning due to the very poor service.
Our dinner took way too long to arrive. We were told there was a large party there and it pushed everything back in time in the kitchen. That was frustrating, but once the excellent food was delivered to our table, all was well. Dinner was delicious. Before we left the manager approached our table to apologize and to offer dessert as compensation for our experience. We will definitely return. It's a splurge, but for a great meal it's worth doing every once in a while.
I have been to Mateo's a few years ago and it has really gone downhill since then. I made reservations before we went, but the place as next to empty anyway. For some reason, we still had to wait 10 minutes for our table even though there were more empty tables than full ones. We ordered calamari, which was grossly overcooked and chewy. The oil was also old, which gave it that awful old fast food taste. I had the ribeye, which I was told came with polenta. Instead, it came with rice. There was nothing wrong with the meal, but nothing memorable about it either. A bigger problem was the cleanliness. There were gnats and bugs flying around the whole time we were there. The walls were dirty with a half inch of dust on them. Our server was inattentive throughout the meal. Overall, big disappointment. I won't bother going back.
This was our 2nd dining experience at Matteo's. Both times, we were enraptured by our delicious meals, from the antipasti, insalate, the amazing home made bread and dipping oil to our wonderful main course. Haven't yet been able to sample a dessert, as we were so full. I already have my game plan for next time, insalate only and share an entree with my husband so I have room for dessert! We will definitely be back again and again!
We went for a quick dinner, we were in town for a few days and we had a craving for Italian food. Service was prompt and friendly. We ordered calamari which was cooked perfectly accompanied with a mainara sauce, to give a fair review it was nothing special but not bad. We ordered their signature chicken lasagna and the special of the night a white fish in a cream sauce over rice. Lasagna, again not bad but nothing special and the fish dish was actually awful. It was doused in a cream sauce over rice. It remided me of a fish chowder over rice. Rice was a mushy mess and the fish was very chewy. The atmosphere was pleasant though, they had a singer with a man playing music. My suggestion would be to stick with the authentic italian menu items, veal piccata, chicken marsala and the bolgnase. Like I said not a bad restaurant for atmospere, music and good wine but food was nothing special.
Pros: The food was outstanding, and environment was lively and trendy. Very busy, but we had a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. Very pleasant and knowledgeable waiter. Great menu. Cons: When making my reservation for two I mentioned it was my wife's birthday. Rather than getting a cozy table for two in the corner or off to the side, we were seated against a wall that went the length of the restaurant, fairly close to the front. This was a small table somewhat by itself along the high traffic main corridor (front to back). I lost count of how many people bumped me and brushed by our table as they were coming and going (wait staff included). Although we were kind of right in the middle of all the action, it took about 15 minutes for the waiter to come to our table, introduce himself and get us a glass of water. No one came to our table prior to that. Lots of staff walked by us, but no one stopped until the waiter arrived. We were beginning to think we were invisible. It seemed the staff was more focused on being attentive to the larger tables. As mentioned, I had noted on my reservation that it was my wife's birthday. I hadn't expected anything special for her, but a cheerful Happy Birthday greeting would have been a nice touch. I even mentioned her birthday to the waiter at one point and he didnt even wish her a happy birthday then. So, if you have a larger, boisterous group celebrating a special occasion and want great food, this is definitely the place. But if it's just you and your significant other, plan on being lost in the hustle and bustle.
I had heard good things about Matteo's and it didn't disappoint! Friendly staff, good ambience, and delicious food. The literal hunks of break they bring to the table are wonderful with the garlic/parmesan dipping oil. We enjoyed great pasta dishes and even had room for a fabulous dessert. We'll be back for certain!
