Pleasing LA’s discerning diners for 56 years with its Italian, Continental Menu . Veal chops, Seafood, Steaks, & Pastas
Matteo’s offers booth & table seating; a full bar & lounge; a happy hour daily except Saturdays;
Old school charm and quality. If you'r looking for high quality dining without having to scream at your guests just so that they can hear you, then this is a great venue. Specials are NOT over priced like so many other high end restaurants. We've been twice now, and both times were excellent in every way.
Their Osso Bucco is the best. My family has been going there for year coming from Monroiva, love the place
Excellent food, good service, a fun place to enjoy a meal with your family. I made a reservation on line, the restaurant didn’t have it, but seated us anyway despite it being very busy.
I can't believe I've waited so long to try this outstanding restaurant! It's so close to our house, and it's soooo good! Service, food, ambiance couldn't have been better. If you're looking for a loud, crowded restaurant with tables crammed together, and noise levels so high you can't hear the person next to you, then this restaurant may not be for you. If you're looking for a somewhat old school experience, with experienced waiters who know the menu, and high quality food that's delicious, then this should be one of your "go to" places. It is for us now!
The food and service are outstanding. This is an amazing place to enjoy a dinner and feel authentic Italian mood.
This is our third visit to Matteo's, twice on our own and once with guests. The food has been exceptional each time.... Spaghetti and Meatballs, Veal Piccata, Chicken Parmesiana. The salads and dessert are also excellent. Service is great. This place is a gem. Reasonably priced and historic.
A really nice restaurant with great food where you can actually have a conversation with your dinner companions. The bread is delicious (which is why they charge for a second basket), great Caesar salad and special salad with Gorgonzola, cranberries and nuts. Dinners were good sized and well prepared. We recommend both chicken dishes and the special pappardelle pasta with mushrooms. One of the very few restaurants that still serve tartufo (intense dark chocolate ice cream rolled in dark chocolate bits) and spumoni. Like being in Italy!
Prix Fix menu for Valentines day was kinda terrible
only two pastas in an Italian restaurant!?!? Would have enjoyed the food much more if it was the regular menu
But overall good ambience
Manager was screaming at his waiters, very frustrated and rude. Killed the ambiance
Highly recommend. Real people real food. Great space. Usually can get in last minute. Bar is great too for a meal or drinks.
Matteo's is one of my favorite restaurants on the west side of Los Angeles. The food is delicious, service impeccable and love the atmosphere with Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Had the special bib salad, king salmon and chocolate gellato for dessert. It was a lovely evening to bring friends and share.
The food quality is absolutely exceptional. The ambience is so very special with the red leather booths. It’s very elegant in kind of a mafia way.
Always a pleasure to eat here! Everything about it from the bread to dessert is so good. The waitstaff is attentive and always pleasant.
Always a wonderful experience! Love the room, music ,personnel,food... hope they get the train repaired,!
Retro 50’s Rat Pack hangout has unfortunately lost its way. Staff is inefficient
Amazing as usual! Best service in town and the food is excellent! Can be low key or for special occasions, works for both classy and everyday- always love it. My parents have been coming since the 70s and it has never disappointed. An LA staple for locals and the few out-of-towners who know of the great places.
Service very slow
Everything else good
Excellent service and warm and inviting atmosphere. This is where you go to sink into a comfortable booth and dine on a tablecloth. That said, it’s not stuffy. It’s got a very cool history, including regulars like Frank Sinatra back in the day. The food is very fresh and well prepared. No, it’s not a trendy restaurant. It’s not buzzy. Its a great place to go to DINE on very good food and be able to have a conversation with your dining partners. It may be old school, but its many virtues make it worth a visit.
A great icon of Los Angeles. I look forward to returning. Merry Christmas.
Our server, Kevin, was great and the food was delicious!
Wonderful food and service.
Classic restaurants are classic restaurants for a reason. What Matteo's does well, it does better than any other restaurant in LA. Best classic Italian dishes in Los Angeles. Valet parking is expensive but it's worth it for the restaurant experience.
I love this place. The food is good and it has such a historical value...
Turning up the volume on the music and dimming the lights would help the ambiance.
is a great upscale neighborhood restaurant. The food, the service,.i"ll ,and the ambience were perfect. We had a wonderful evening!!I Cant wait to retrn!!!,
Nice quiet Italian restaurant. We went for our anniversary dinner. The food and service were great; we had rack of lamb and the salmon special, and a fudgy chocolate dessert.
Went for their happy hour, which runs till 8:30. They sat us at a booth. We asked a few wait staff for their happy hour menu and waited nearly 15 minutes before we were told they only offered that at the bar.
We moved to the bar and ordered drinks and food. The veal meatballs in marinara were good. Their spinach mushroom pizza quesadilla weird and their chopped salad one of the best I’ve had.
I had read their mixed drinks used fresh juices but watched them pour from a can. My drink was supposed to have cucumber and muddled mint, but came without any mint. I switched to wine and they red they poured was quite nice.
The clientele was older and conservative, with women in dresses and men in jackets. The restaurant was pretty empty which must be why they’re doing this happy hour.
The service was wonderful and the food was absolutely amazing! Very challenging these days to find a good restaurant with a nice ambiance wherein you can actually hear each other talk. Fabulous!
Love this place! Great food, service and atmosphere. Friendly staff and a lid back casual/formal vibe.
Food was good but service and ambiance very mediocre
Took friends who had never been there - we have, on several occasions. We were all impressed with the appearance (shiny, mellow, retro), the service (excellent), and of course the food.
The absolute BEST Rack of Lamb I have ever had. The quality of the meat plus the few vegies was perfect.
We live in the South Bay but once a month we travel to L A for Matteo's.
A great find if you want to eat at 5.30PM and wear casuals or dress up for the later dinner crowd.
Love the veal chop! Excellent service and they have valet parking
My friend and I have season tickets to the Geffen. Whenever possible, we look forward to a lovely, quiet, gourmet dinning experience at Matteo's. They open at 5 or 5:30 (depending on the time of year) which
sometimes precludes our going there. More often now the Geffen's plays are over by 3:30 or 4 PM.
Servers are wonderful, so accommodating, unintrusive and they know how the food is prepared...or
will find out for you. We split blossoms, salmon (beautifully prepared) and a chocolate gelato, with
chocolate chunks, for desert.
We love it and will continue to enjoy it's offerings whenever possible.
Hip but nobody knows it.
We particularly love Matteo's because it is one of the few restaurants you can really hear your conversations. The food is good old fashioned Italian. I had Veal Parm, which was delicious and hard to find. My guests had a grilled veal chop, which was pure white veal. We had other things, but . . .I would definitely recommend Matteo's.
Superb food, presented with pride. Splendid music from the Great American Songbook. The offerings, which are generous go beyond the standard fare. Excellent side-dishes as well.
A local landmark, which is also a hidden gem.
Want an evening where you can converse? Great food, services and ambiance! Enjoy
A long time favorite with great food, ambiance, and staff that is personable and fun. Been going there for 45 years and it never disappoints.
What was missing were customers. Felt kinda strange
