I had not been to this restaurant for 45 years. I used to go with my parents for a special dinner night. Food is as good as I remembered it. The restaurant had the same ambience that I had remembered. Glad we had friends in town that wanted to go there.
Thank god there’s a few old style restaurants still in L.A. for adults. Is the food sensational? No! But, for the food of yesteryear... damn close. Don’t change. Don’t close.
Matteo’s is a throwback to yesteryear in all the best ways. Has a lot of east coast ambiance, history and elligance. Great “old school” Italian fare that if I didn’t know any better would think Mamma was back toiling in kitchen. You want to impress... this place is the best! If you’re real lucky you might feel the “ghosts” of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the rest of the original entourage lurking about 😇
Superb, elegant old style restaurant with a marvelous ambience and great food.
This occasion was a reunion of old friends plus a new one. Ages were 35 to 85. The ability to have a conversation with friends while enjoying great food and old-fashioned ambiance made this a wonderful experience.
Excellent salad; good value for wine. Food style heavy.
Overall fairly good but many other Italian restaurants with lighter on your GI tract fare
The food is absolutely incredible. Even the appetizer that they put on the table while you wait is amazing. I especially love all the Veal dishes, can't decide which is best. The Chocolate Martini was something new for me and now I think I'm hooked on that too! the staff there is really the best most attentive around which makes it a delight to dine there. I'll definitely return.
My Cippino was excellent the broth was spiced just right
Mateo's is still a throwback to an elegant American time dining time. Even the Maitre'd was dressed well. Great service. Some quiet light Jazz might be the touch.
made reservation meeting my nephew. Host checked me in went to table, nephew showed up, host told nephew no one there by my name, then strolled by acknowledging my dinner companion did not show up. Nephew sat at bar talking to host for an hour, finally b4 leaving he walked dining room and found me. Host barely apologized.
Enjoyed the dinner Saturday night very much! Everything perfect and very attentive wait staff! Will return soon. Glad to find restaurant on Open Table!
Food was really good service was excellent will defiently go back again
The food was exceptional, especially for valentine’s day. Are usually hate going to restaurants on Valentine’s Day, because The food is almost always sub par. I had the lamb chops. She had the filet. The chops were some of the best I’ve ever had. Filet was also delicious. Bravo Matteo’s.
Had a great time
Mateo's is an 'old school' restaurant, carpeted, leather booths, excellent food, and expert professional service. Its wonderful when four of us could sit around a comfortable booth and hear ourselves talk. And how nice to eat in a place where the server DOESNT say "Hi guys, my name is .......". This place is a gem that we'll return to again.
We had a delicious dinner and enjoyed having Joe set 'em up for us.
William, the Manager, always greets us with a warm hug which starts off our evening in a good place.
Our waiter, Sebastian, was efficient yet un obtrusive. Told us the specials of the day which my Husband had, but I ALWAYS have their most delicious Rack of Lamb, medium rare.
It was cooked perfectly and the quality of the lamb was exceptional.
Delicious meal, great atmoshere and excellent service
Very long wait for food
as we have come to expect excellent food but even better service.
We had a great table. The service was superb and ambiance was perfect. The food was top notch.
Great Italian food & one of our favorites. Service is ALWAYS excellent and thoughtful
Matteo's is a comfortable restaurant with good ambiance and good service. The food is tasty and well prepared. Unfortunately, the seafood pasta I ordered was not as generous as it should have been on the seafood side. The menu said that the plate was supposed to have pasta and shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams. There were a lot of mussels and clams offering very little seafood but only one shrimp and half a scallop cut in two pieces. I order the same dish in other less costly restaurants and receive far more generous helpings of the seafood.
Great old world charming Italian restaurant. Consistent food and service. Most appealing to older folks and good for families with multiple generations attending.
Love the old-world Italian vibe here. Food is first class, as is the look of the Interior!
I've eaten here many times, and it's always been excellent. This time, however, when it came to the service, even though it started out really well, once our entrees were served it seemed our server was so focused on new arrivals at the other side of the restaurant, he completely forgot about our table. He even totally ignored our table 3 different times when he had to walk past us to go to the kitchen. It was several minutes after we finished our entrees (and they were cleared from the table) before we got dessert menus, and that happened only because I flagged down and asked one of the busboys to bring them to us. When our meal was finished, I had to ask THREE times before we got our check.
We had a business dinner, 3 people on a quiet Tuesday night. Not a busy night for restaurant but food was really well prepared and delicious. Veal Milanese excellent pounded veal served on the bone covered most of plate and hot. Perfect. Mozzarella appetizer also excellent and lucious. This is an iconic place with a lot of history that should not be forgotten. It may not buzz with activity but we liked the quiet, one gets lots of attention and an agreeable digestion here.
Some of the best Italian food you will have in the city of Los Angeles. Old-school is not a dirty word when it comes to this place, it's a fantastic meal with great service and great bar too. If bartender Joe Stellini is working, you won't find a better person to make your drinks and talk about life with then Joe.
Simply outstanding food as well.
Most especially appreciated - the quiet ambiance for visiting!!! Most restaurants get this so wrong but Matteos understands that friends and colleagues want to visit with one another while dining! It's a delicious restaurant with wonderful service.
Matteo's is my favorite restaurant, even though we live in the South Bay area and have an hour's commute to go there.
I always order the delicious Rack of lamb. It is of the best quality and prepared medium/rare, exactly the way I like it.
My husband usually orders one of the specials for that evening.
Not only is the food top quality and very tasty, but William, the manager always welcomes us with a smile and hug.
The barman is wonderful and prepares a bloody mary like no one else.
Mike, our server is polite and friendly without being obtrusive.
This is a wonderful restaurant for a date, a dinner or a special occasion.
My husband and I spend almost all of our monthly wedding anniversaries there
William, the manager always welcomes my husband and I with a cheerful smile.
Mike, our server is friendly.
Love this restaurant for their specials as well as their Rack's Lamb
The salad was acceptable. The turkey dinner was not that great and was only partially consumed. The service was very good.
We didn’t have plans for Thanksgiving dinner and were so happy that Matteo’s was open.
It was a won dinner.
Business dinner for two at 7 pm on a Thursday. Very light crowd, surprisingly. Meat selection appetizer (large size) was generous (enough for 4 people easily). Fig salad (special) was delicious. My companion had a seafood medley entree and said it was very good. I ordered what I thought was a spaghetti dish with lamb meatballs, but it arrived sans the meatballs (which our server, Sebastian, remedied quickly). The pasta itself was unremarkable and the tomato sauce (even with roasted garlic) was rather bland. Wine and beer selection is limited but at least not over-priced (had a bottle of the Italian chianti classico). We did not have dessert. I enjoyed the throw-back ambiance as much as anything.
On November 11, 2017 the Veal Parmesan was very soggy with the breading and cheese separating from the veal.
A month ago, it was much better.
Maybe, I'll try it again in a month or so.
Food and service were average at best. Restaurant was half empty but still service was agonizingly slow. Spaghetti was drowning in sauce. Hardly authentic Italian on any level
A true classic. Always good. Always consistent. Great Service.
Always consistently good food.
Wine list could be broader. For instance, there's only have one chardonnay available to order (which I do enjoy). Gluten-free and vegan choices are very limited as well. I really like the service and atmosphere. Classy, Hollywood old school vibe, yet cozy and romantic.
love the old hollywood vibe in this restaurant. if wall could talk? great italian food, too.
Fantastic Service, Made reservations, had never been here before we were treated as if we were past customers. Just a wonderful experiance.
