Old school place focused on what's important: The food and Ambiance! Chicken Romana, Eggplant Parm, and any of their fish dishes delight. Sinatra music pipes in for a festive atmosphere but it's not too overbearing so that you can't converse. They did play a bit of Michael Jackson which I couldn't understand, but otherwise another great experience at Matteo's.
I can see why Frank Sinatra called Matteo's his favorite restaurant. It was excellent
We were celebrating my friend’s birthday and she loves Italian food so I thought it would be great to treat her to dinner at this historical restaurant. Obviously, it was big mistake. The service was terrible and so was our food. It took an hour and ten minutes to get our food and the restaurant was only half full. The waiter forgot to put in the birthday girls food order and our food got cold while waiting for ravioli dish which only takes 6 minutes to cook. We will never go back!
Look, if you want good food in a quiet ambiance with good service and value - Matteo's is for you. This is an old school Hollywood - style place with red leather booths and a mature clientele. It is ripe for being rediscovered by the cool kids, so enjoy the relaxed dining while you can.
Food was great. Service was terrible. One waiter to service the every table.
Great food and service as always!
Best food and service
The food, service, and ambiance of this long established neighborhood gem is, as always, superb. They still offer the finest Italian-American cuisine and make the best Martinis. Whether you are having a special occasion or just a night out with the family, this restaurant delivers the goods. Highly recommended.
The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable. Servers respected the fact we were out for an enjoyable slow paced evening so we weren't rushed. Food was excellent. Entire experience was a pleasure.
Meh... it's alright at best. Perhaps it was because it was the pre-fix menu for V-Day- Service was lackluster food was just ok. I expected much more.
With that said... I would give it another try on a regular night / regular full menu.
It's got history. It's been here a long time and still is great. Choo choo train still running
Perfecto! I am a local in Westwood and am planning to visit you for many more special occasion!
Go there every trip to LA
The food was good, but service was garbage.
Good food, great service..
Waiter seemed green. Pretty scarce all night.
The pasta special I ordered was excellent.
My wife ordered the chopped salad as her main entree and was served a skimpy pre-dinner sized salad. We’ve ordered the salad on many occasions and had been served much more generous servings. Are they cutting back on portions???
They get everything just right here. The food is superb - best Whitefish I ever had and my guests were exclaiming over their food! The service is quick and friendly and the ambiance is like no other. No loud music, just a very soft background which allows comfortable conversation in leather booths or at tables - something that most restaurants don't even think about or prepare for. This is a gem - go yesterday!
We frequented Matteo's for years, until we moved away sometime ago. Was a pleasure coming back. Food is still wonderful with a great assortment of real Italian dishes. The atmosphere is quiet and classy. Traditional decor that is comfortable and welcoming. Takes you out of the frantic world outside. Staff was attentive and helpful. Can't say enough nice things about it. Wish we lived closer and could come back more often.
Loved our meal here! The atmosphere was perfect and we received great services
Matteo's seems to be one of the few restaurants left where you can have a conversation without raising your voice. We love the old-school ambience. Cozy, intimate booths. Good food. Our server was great.
Several friends recommended Matteo's to me and I'm pleased I followed up on it. The food, service, atmosphere were outstanding. I can't wait to return.
You can't go back. This was once a great restaurant. Took my wife there on a recent trip to LA and I'm sorry I did. The food was in all pretty bad. Pass this one up. Also, never got the points for the visit.
It’s a classic!
The waiter was fine, but the maitre ‘d was awful. We and a separate party waited almost 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were even there. Perhaps there was some crisis or problem, but even were that true, someone clearly should have spoken to us and let us know they were aware of a serious delay. It’s amazing what a ‘I’m sorry for this problem ‘ could do to make your customers feel like you cared that they were in your establishment.
This place was great. Old Hollywood ambiance and history combined with some great Italian dishes, wines and old world service. Can’t recommend it enough!
Another wonderful meal. Food and drinks were great and the service was fantastic. Thank you very much!
Delicious food and attentive service!
My family has been coming here for years.
Thanks giving dinner- no a la carte choices which was as expected but the section provided was definitely not to taste. Opening salad set the tone. Tasteless dressing and strange combination of vegetable chunks
Main course felt like made on mass in cafeteria, not specially for specific diner. Service was very attentive and pleasant. Wine was good. Ambiance was warm and pleasant.
When we were being seated the Manager only wanted to know if we had a reservation.
The waiter was lovely but it took an hour to get our food.
The absolute B E S T Rack of lamb I have ever had. Not only the way it was prepared but also the quality of the meat, itself.
Great unobtrusive service.
This was our first visit and since the Dodgers were playing in the World Series we had almost the entire restaurant to ourselves. The Manager/ bartender was a kick, he interacted with us and made it a great experience. Alain our waiter was terrific, he was also a chef so had a lot of great input into the offerings they had that evening. I had the Veal Chop which he recommended grilled on the open flame, wow what a terrific taste. My wife had the rack of lamp which was also terrific. We will be going back and I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic dinner.
I mentioned in Opentable reservation and on phone confirmation that my guest was celebrating her birthday. No one wished her a happy birthday. Otherwise, waiter was ok. place has the feel of needing a thorough renovation.
Great food in an old school atmosphere! The baked clams are to die for and so hard to find on the west coast so that was a nice surprise. Definitely feels like Old Hollywood here!
I love this place ... you can hear, lighting is low and pleasant. The food is high quality and cooked just right.
For my budget, it is expensive but I go there for family birthdays — kids are grownups — because it is classy!
Service was horrible. It appears they were understaffed but nobody ever apologized or acknowledged the fact that something was off.
Amazing food and really attentive wait staff. The ambiance is very ritzy but fun.
Good Italian food and one of the few places in town still suitable for adults. -- minimum noise and comfy seating.
The food was excellent. Service was very mindful, watching for cues, not necessarily interrupting the table constantly. We had our pick of tables!
Wide selection of menu items from which to choose. Love being idea able to order 1/2 orders.
