Matteo's of Roslyn Ratings and Reviews
This is hands-down the best Italian restaurant in Long Island! We have been coming here for years and the food is always spot on! Some copycats opened up down the block called 388 and the food and service is subpar. There is absolutely no connection which people think. There is only one original and we are loyal to Mateo‘s. If you are in the area and looking for a great dinner with great service in a really beautiful setting this is the place to go. We will be back next week for another great meal!
Matteos was excellent. It was a 2 hour drive I would do again. Our service was phenomenal top notch! Make sure you go hungry! We called all our friends who go down the Island and told them it is a must to stop and eat here! Only 2 blocks of L.I.E. Everything is homemade and the price was fantastic.
This was our first visit to this restaurant. It is a typical Roslyn area restaurant which some may consider this discription a prejoritive. Perhaps. The menu is large with many traditional Italian dishes and some specials. The dishes are offered in two portions regular and family size. We found our dishes nicely prepared but lacked any exceptionalism . We had early reservations and by the time we were ready to leave the restaurant became quite crowded and noisy. I would give the place another try but not on a Saturday night
Wife ordered a rack of lamb from daily special menu to find they didn't have as they put out the prior week's specials. Drinks were VERY expensive, but well done. Caesar salad was outstanding then went downhill. Ravioli special as an appetizer was mediocre. I ordered a veal dish with eggplant and mozzarella that looked great and was a large portion, but could hardly taste veal in it. My wife ordered a single portion of pasta in red clam sauce. It was an enormous portion even if a small size so enough for a large table. It was only ok. Desert was a napoleon that is excellent. We were there once before recently and enjoyed the meal and singer, who this time didn't come until 7:00 PM as we were leaving. Wouldn't go back again.
We were a party of 9 for an end of summer dinner. We were seated in the back of the restaurant which was fine until when we went back there we realized that the air conditioning was not working properly. When we inquired what the problem was and why it was so hot, the waitress told us they had a problem earlier but that it was fixed. After a half hour it was brutally hot( it was over 90 degrees outside that day) it was not getting cooler so we asked to move to the front room where it was working. But she said there was nothing available. Yet there were available tables. The server kept telling us how hot she was also but at that point I really didn't care.. I had 8 people there as my guests sweating. We couldn't enjoy the food.. it was an awful experience. We were treated horribly and next time we will choose another local business to patronize where our comfort and satisfaction will be of concern to the management.
We were just 2 so we were seated away from the larger tables by the back. The hostess was extremely accommodating as was the waiter who was helpful in ordering, professional and patient as we stayed quite late. The rose was one of the best I've had in a long time. The menu is overwhelming and we ordered too much food, but all was delicious. We had veal scallopini and linguine seafood. All in all a wonderful evening.
I chose Matteo's based on a recommendation from a friend to celebrate my mother's birthday. My parents were very pleased with the choice. Everyone really enjoyed their food (the portions were gigantic, and the food was very good). The decor and ambiance inside was very nice, the only reason I didn't rate ambiance as "very good" was that they were playing off things on the TV behind our table (like the movie Grease and 13 Going on 30) and I thought it was weird and distracting, especially since everything else was so lovely. May be just me... The last thing I will say and that really prompted me to write this review is that our waiter really irked me. He was pretty much the only thing that kept this from being a perfect night. He had an attitude about him like he couldn't wait until his shift was over. He was bordering on rude without being outright rude. My dad purchased a groupon ahead of this occasion and let the waiter know at the start of the meal - I have no idea if this impacted the way he treated us or not...even though it did not impact the way we tipped him. We still tipped him as we would on the cost of a regular meal, so I have no idea what his deal was.
The minute we park our car with the valet we feel good. We are always greeted with their amazing staff, smiling , happy and sincerely glad to have us dine with them. The ambience feels cozy and comfortable and they always ask us where we would like to sit. We usually go a little early and have a cocktail at the bar. Again service at the bar is excellent. We take our table, and the food is over the top, the fish is alway fresh and prepared how we like it. The shrimp dish is outstanding and made right in front of us with an incredible sauce. Our server checks on us to see how everything is and do we need another drink or something else. The entire experience is so relaxing and fun. We go often and the staff changes because we go on different nights so I have not included their names .
Excellent dining !
Second time dining here, ordered the baked clams again since we enjoyed them so much the first time and the chicken rollantini. For dessert we had the cannoli. All were excellent as was our server. Since this all seems to be consistent we now have a new favorite Italian restaurant
The Food was outstanding and the choices plentiful.
Having dined in many Italian Restaurants and being of Italian heritage its in our top 5.
It's not Mom's, LOL
Only negative for me was that there wasn't a parking lot.
You had to valet or look for parking and it's not an easy task.
So if your ok with valet or not , don't pass Matteos up.
