Matteo's of Hallandale Ratings and Reviews
I had been looking forward to going to Matteo's because we enjoy their Long Island restaurant however I was disappointed. We arrived at 6 pm on Saturday for our reservation eating earlier than we normally do because that was the only time remaining on Open Table. We were seated immediately, delivered menus and received a visit from our waiter asking if we wanted to order drinks and dinner. We ordered drinks and before we received them we were asked again if we knew what we wanted to order. Drinks arrived and before we could even sip- we were asked again what we wanted to order. After the 4th time we were asked we took the hint and ordered.
We got our salad and dinners within 15 minutes and we were out of there in 45 minutes. The entrees were good but the chopped salad had no taste and the wines were mediocre.
This restaurant is always busy and I'm sure no one will even notice our review- but it was such a disappointing night that it was important for me to share.
Last time I was there, I had the ravioli entree. This time it was tough and thick.
Other dishes ordered by my friends were good.
Waiter was preoccupied and not good. Service has been inconsistent. Some
waiters are much better than others.
It felt air conditioned, when it was quite cold outside.
Not an overall great experience this time, versus my last visit just a short week ago.
Inconsistent is the operative word.
It’s our go-to Italian dining in Hallandale Beach. However this evening the waitstaff couldn’t be bothered to even fill water over the football game on TV. Food was good but it always ruins an evening when the little things (water, bread, etc) are a one-time deal. We will be back and hope that the proprietors take notice and up their game a tad.
We returned here for a second early New Year's Eve dinner at 7. Last year we had to wait quite awhile to get in, even with a reservation. We got seated right away this time. The waiter was quite helpful in answering questions and telling us the correct amount to order. We shared the mussels which could have had a bit more taste with the sauce but were good. I just like them more garlicky. Our pasta, however, was right on the mark with the garlic and my shrimp dish was very good as was my husbands. My only problem was we waited about 45 minutes between our appetizer and our main dish. I wasn't in a hurry but other people who came in later were being served and our waiter had to send in the manager to see about our dishes which I thought was strange. But it was New Year's eve and the kitchen was busy so it wasn't a big deal, just a little annoying. All in all it was an excellent meal
This used to be one of our favorite restaurants and it was a beyond poor experience tonight with no apology. The food needed to be sent back (calamari and fish over cooked) , the service stunk and the meal took 95 minutes to come out despite numerous asks to at least bring the pasta out first for our 6 year old at the beginning of the evening ... We will not be returning.
My snapper was so tough that I couldn't cut it with a knife. The staff was amazing and quickly made me another which was much better. The stuffed artichoke was overcooked and laden with butter. Everything was a lacarte and I thought the snapper at $38 was overpriced.
Excellent food in a relaxed casual setting. We eat out Italian a lot and the food here was exquisite. The artichoke heart appetizer is a must. What I like is that they do individual or family style ordering and the portions are plentiful. Oh, and excellent service as well. Great restaurant...
